Hope your milk testing goes well! I am enjoying watching and learning about good goat lines and traits and milk tests and everything! I think we need to learn more about that kind of stuff with the alpacas!
Don't worry it only took me almost 10 years of raising goats before I decided I wanted to get serious about it lol! But I'm glad we're doing it, it's really teaching me a lot about my breeding stock~
Wow, that is a ton of extra work but I know it's worth it for multiple reasons. I am interested in doing this also. My momma goat just kidded and our other doe will kid soon. Is there a link to go to to get the scale and all the details? I probably overlooked it, I'm technically challenged. Lol Thank you so much for sharing all that you've learned because even though you say you don't know it all, you know far more than me. Lol 👏☺️ Blessings!!
If you go to the ADGA website and look up milk testing there's a ton of information there. It should be able to supply a list of DHI co-ops that do the testing and you usually get the scales from there and they calibrate them for you.
I haven't tested yet, but I did want to ask about cleaning the pail you weigh in between does... my DHI mentions using a clean pail per doe so you don't end up with any info being incorrect, I guess residue from one doe could end up in the other doe's milk.
You definitely can get a very small amount of residue if you don't clean it. It's easy to just throw a splash of water in there and toss it. A lot of the breeders I've talked to will swish clean the pail but now I actually milk with a milking machine and I'm bound to get residue from my lines. Most people i've talked to say it's such a small amount of residue in the grand scheme of it that it should be fine but there's absolutely no harm in cleaning the weighing pail between weighing different does milk :)
The main purpose behind dipping or spraying down the udder/teats after milking is that when we stop milking we leave the teats orifice open and unprotected and that makes it easier for bacteria to enter the udder and cause Mastitis which is no fun to treat. WHen babies nurse, they salvate while they nurse and when they're done that milk/saliva mixture acts as a barrier to any bacteria entering. So when I'm done milking a dip teats or spray an antibacterial spray on the teats. I hope that makes sense :)
Amalthaea was the name of the mother of God. God Zeus - chief of the Gods. His nurse sometimes nymph sometimes goat, her name was Amalthaea. You do not even mention what your goats name is? Nigeran Dwarf? Now that does not sound right.
Wow that is a lot of work. But so worth it. A lot of benefits from all the milk. Great job 👏 thank you for sharing.
Totally worth it! We love our fresh goats milk!!!
you give so Much information about goats .❤️ your farm is the best.
Awww thanks! We try to give as much info as we can without it becoming too boring :) I appreciate you watching and commenting!

@@MulberryBranchFarm Thank you for the reply! Good to know that it seems to be a minuscule amount!
I am always curious on thinking teets need to be dipped after milking.. Do you dip them every time after her babie nurses?

That's a awful lot of work to put into it! I hope you get the info you need from it all. Seems like a whole lot of variables to it.
Lots of variables that I'm still learning a TON about :)

It's all so confusing.
It sure is... I'm still learning a LOT about it! But I do enjoy this new aspect of raising Nigerians!
