    I was yelling at the tablet “the sample”!!! Oh well. I’m glad it’s not the worst case scenario. Love watching how your girls are doing with their milk production. Great content!

    Thank you for making this video. I have been milk testing my small herd for two years and still learned from you on this video.
    Since the pandemic there are so many new people in goats videos like these are much needed. Thank you for taking you time to share and teach us.

    What an interesting process! Sorry your temperatures are so high, hope you don't have humidity. I'm always learning something new about goats.

    • @deserthardtdairygoats

      There’s a bit of humidity but that comes with monsoon season that we’re entering. Luckily most the herd is use to the high summer temperatures but it always takes a toll on milk production.

    What treats do you give to your goats when they leave the milking room? I am excited to try milk testing next year and this video helped me understand more about it and makes it seem a little bit less complicated then I thought. Love watching your videos ❤️

    • @deserthardtdairygoats
      @deserthardtdairygoats  Год назад +1

      The girls get a Purina horse treat “Nicker Makers” is what the bag calls them. Yess! Can’t wait for you to start this milk testing journey, you’ll love the data/feedback you get on your does.

    If you have some does that freshens in March and the rest in May you start milk test in March right? Also do your May does also need 8 total tests or it is 8 total for the farm?

    • @deserthardtdairygoats
      @deserthardtdairygoats  13 дней назад

      Each individual doe needs 8 tests & be 240 days in milk while on test. If I have does kid in March they go on milk test 2 weeks after, so theoretically the March does in milk will be ahead of the May does.
      However I would never breed for May kids in my area because it’s too hot for them.

    What a great video. I am planning to do my first milk testing this year. A couple of questions: does the lab send you the containers with the preservative? Is the ladle 1/2 ounce size?

    • @deserthardtdairygoats
      @deserthardtdairygoats  Год назад +1

      As far as I’m aware all labs do send the vials with a preservative in it. I use WA DHIA and have been for 3 years now. Yes the label is a half ounce 👍🏼

    Do you dry off your does before you breed them again?

    • @deserthardtdairygoats
      @deserthardtdairygoats  Год назад +2

      No when they’re bred they’re still in milk, I dry my does off two months before their due to kid. This gives their bodies a break and allows them to fully prepare for another 305 days in milk.

    • @mystiarnold6405
      @mystiarnold6405 Год назад

      @@deserthardtdairygoats I’ve been drying off my ewes (mostly because I don’t want to milk when it’s 115-121 outside) but depending on when lambs are born, it only gives me 2-3 months to milk.
