Very, very interesting. Now, if I was to read (somewhere) all of this info that you explained, I woulda been lost. But YOU explain things so very well ..... thank you. I feel your excitement and I love it! Shoot for the stars, Crystal! 💫 🌟 💫
I really enjoy the technical information you give us on the does, and how the shows they go to work. I would like to see one of the shows when things get better. You show us how much you and your family love them and everyone working together at milking time. Keep well and keep sending your vlogs. Love you all from Wyoming.
There is just not enough information out there about the dairy performance programs so I truly appreciate you making a video explaining all the ins and outs of the one day test! We are going to be doing the 305 day for the first time this year and I feel so overwhelmed, but after your video I know the same components go into the 305 day so if you can tackle the one day, surely I can figure out the 305 lol as always, LOVE your videos and can't wait for the next one!
@@BlueCactusDairyGoats - it's because you and your family (goats included) are the whole package. Each one of you are truly into this for the goats. When y'all do a video, we know it's going to be a fun learning experience and know it's about the goats and not a video about people doing silly antics that have nothing to do with goats. The zest you have for all things goat is truly infectious. BCDG is my favorite RUclips channel.
We are doing the OS 40 and it is so much work but sooooo interesting how they do throughout their lactation. Our verification is next month. Praying for stars for our girls and pluses for our bucks! ❤ Good luck! 🎉
I love all this information! We are getting our first buck this year from a four star milker.AND getting blue eyes in to our herd! All your videos helped me make that decision... so no more rent-a-buck lol! Our own home stud for the homestead :)
I just love watching your show! I always learn so much! I do not farm or raise animals, but I love watching and, if I were 60 years younger, I would love to have tired my hand at it! Good luck with the milk stars!
Omg I am excited for them does!! I hope you are happily surprised with the results. High hopes for you and the girls. Can’t wait to hear the outcome. They will get their stars!! 👍🏽🙏🏽🤗❤️
I hope all the tests show great results...never had a clue there was so much to understand about goats milk . amazing and so interesting....! thank you Crystal....
Does that mean anyone who has bought your babies will have updated pedigrees if they do get stars? Not for testing but do you keep track of weight milked for your own records?
Even though I may never own a goat I get SO EXCITED for you on your journey with your goats! I'm going to still keep learning from you "just in case" goats do pop up someday in my life. Blessings! :)
This was pretty cool, I want to open a goat dairy eventually too but I’ve never heard of milk stars before. I kind of assumed milk testing was just for quality or make sure they didn’t have mastitis or stuff, but it seems like a still have a lot to learn before I’m ready to open a farm. I’m in college for livestock now, but our goats are for meat so you don’t learn a whole lot about dairy.... I don’t really have the heart send off my goats so often with meat :(
Thanks for all the information Crystal. I never knew all that goes into milk stars. So happy that you were able to get the testing done this year. We've had so much put on hold this year. Good luck with the girls stars.
This is just so fascinating to me! I love how knowledgeable and passionate you are. Been watching for years and I just adore you and your family. Not to mention the garden is always on point! Can't wait for the results.
Sure wish all of us registered with ADGA would get the opportunity to test this year. Really stinks that there are herds that will miss out while others don't. 😔

Awesome!! We are doing the 305 day DHIR milk test this year on our LaManchas, Mini LaManchas and Nigerians...! We just did our second test for the year. I’m already seeing decisions on keepers/sell and who I’ll breed to whom in the fall. Data is great!
I hate waiting!!! How many hears has it taken for you to have the pedigree’s you have now and your whole Tribe. I love researching bloodlines in racehorses. This is just as satisfying.
thanks for the info if you could please clarify the following please. So once a goat received their milk star do they keep it or do they have to be tested each year to keep the milk star? If they get tested over and over each year and get a milk star does that make them a double milker star or only one star for each goat? with my question above if only each goat gets one star a five star milker means she and her mom and so on and so forth had their milk stars and so it shows the good lines? Does the milk star have to happen in the first three years? Are there certain level of stars? Like you said different places or different ways can get star easier but is there more prominence over one or another? with the question above if a goat get there star at a younger age is that seen as a better star than one who gets it later in life? Thanks for your time and letting us be a part of your life and goats.
They can earn their star at any point in their life. There are not different levels of stars but depending on the type of test they can be qualified for different earnings. For instance the 305 test they could be eligible for superior genetics where they can't on a one day.
Hey thanks for teaching us something today Crystal. So once they earn the stars are they retested at any time again? Congratulations honey you have worked really hard for this. Thank the kids too!!!! I will be praying for the butterfat content...... Hugs from Minnesota
If they are on the 305 most people do it yearly for the data even if they already earned their stars. A one day milk test isnt necessary to do again. Once they earn their star it's theirs :)
How did you find someone to come out and test your herd? Did you do it rhough DHIA? I have seen people do mail in testing but am unfamiliar with having an actual tester come out. Thank you!
Does anyone know if we can use a milker for the milk tests? I had to order a Henry Milker. This would've been our first year since we're just getting started. However, my arthritic hands just won't allow me to milk by hand 😥, so I need a milker. Anyway just wondering if they allow milking machines for milk tests? Thank you for your comments! 💕
I'm so glad you made a video on this. I got my first registered girl but she's MDGA. I hope to put her on milk test next year! Last year when your samples spoiled did they give a refund?
Goodluck! How exciting! I LOVE the minis! What breed do you have? Last years test was put on by the goat club I am in and just said to keep the money for the club. It was an unfortunate mistake but accidents happen :)
Blue Cactus Dairy Goats Mini Lamancha! One of my goat friends actually bought her for me as a gift! They knew I had been wanting ones for a long time and they're SO hard to find here. I'm already in love with her and entered her into the Virtual Show through MDGA. Which brings me to my next question, is ADGA hosting any virtual shows you could enter your girls in?
My great grandfather had a dairy goat farm. I don’t even know what breed he had. I find it interesting to watch and learn from you and your family. I wonder how it was way back when for my great grandpa. The changes that have taken place over all these years. Crystal, how does the dairy goat differ from farm to commercial dairy? Do the commercial dairy operations use machines to milk or do they have to milk by hand?
So much information Crystal!! Thank you so much for the time you take in created these video's!! If I might ask you a question, what do you expect as far as weight or pint/quart in the pail per each doe? I know they all are different but out of your best doe in milk what is her average?
Lacy earned her star with almost 5 lbs for 2 milkings. That's a good goat! Many things factor how much milk a goat produces but 1.5-2 lbs a milking is good for a Nigi.
This is such aan interesting video, can't wait for the results. Wondering if having doelings or bucklings would change the butterfat/milk ratio. I watched a documentary that cows with bullocks will make a milk with higher butterfat content than those that produce heifers, which is apparently also true of humans whether the mother has a boy or a girl. Very interesting studies.
Is the goat in milk? If you you may need to milk her a few times while she dries up. If she has kids and the kids are nursing off her, you wont have to milk at all.
Just thinkin........too bad humans don’t get milk stars.......cause I was a great dairy cow when I was breastfeeding my babies like a ton of years ago.....just sayin
