In this episode, Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz pick their films for the worst of 2008.
These guys are no Siskel & Ebert. Speaking of which, Ebert named Synecdoche, NY as the best film of the 2000s.
They bombed this season and that's why they were out after one year. Nobody wanted to listen to these guys.
*Synecdoche.
@@dj71162Haha, I figured I misspelled.
Mankiewicz: "Please make a fifth [Indiana Jones] installment to get the bad taste out of my mouth." About that, Ben....
Yep, fifth was terrible and so was the fourth despite what any revisionists may say. Why spielberg let Lucas get final say on the fourth script is beyond me.
Rachel Getting Married is on my ten best movie list of 2008 because I thought the performances were phenominal, especially Anne Hathaway, and I loved. the. how addiction was dealt with.
"The always boring Brendan Fraser???" Oh helll no! Thems fighting words!!! Lol 🤣
You do not insult Speed Racer. It might not be perfect but I was plenty entertained.
Speed racer is the best movie ever in 2008 not the worst movie.
Something disingenuous about not having a single movie in common on each of their lists. That had to be intentional to recognize more bad movies.
Do you even remember some of these films? I didn't.
Lol I remember seeing this when it aired and his review of Repo the Genetic Opera actually made me want to see it and I've loved it ever since!!
Lol I always end up liking the movies on the worst list for some reason 😂
Also speed racer is amazing!!
These two Ben's are terrible. I'm glad they got turfed after one season.
I knew it wasn't going to work. The way they redid the show with no balcony and not keeping Richard and Michael. That would've been okay, but no......
@@sha11235At the Movies indeed got butchered when Richard Roeper left
Synecdoche, NY is one of the best movies of the past 20 years.
it really, really isn't. please see more movies.
@@amphitheatre Naah, you suck. It slaps.
So allegedly, Tom Cruise didn't want Holmes to be in Dark Knight, but Mad Money was okay?
Ben Mankiewicz is now a legend on Turner Classic Movies with a more refined attitude. But I do agree with him on some of his choices.
Here is my list of worst movies of 2008
10). Meet Dave
9). You don't mess with the Zohan
8). One Missed Call
7). Strange Wilderness
6). 10,000 BC
5). Disaster Movie
4). 88 Minutes
3). Meet the Spartans
2). The Hottie & The Nottie
The Worst Movie of 2008
1). The Love Guru
Not bad
Are "Mamma Mia!" and "Speed Racer" inappropriate movies of 2008?
Mama Mia is the worst movie ever. Speed racer is the best movie in 2008.
Shame to those who hate Rachel Getting Married.
I can't possibly tell you how disappointing The Love Guru was. What happened, Mike?
What exactly is he smoking when he says Rachel Getting Married is a terrible film. Rachel sister and her father seemed like nice people I would hang out with him.
I feel like I'm watching overly scripted picked choices......Never will be another AUTHENTIC movie review on mainstream: Thank you SISKEL & EBERT
worst of the year? wild, because now most of theses are the only movies from that year with lasting fanbases
Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Taken, Tropic Thunder, Slumdog Millionaire, Wall-E...
Well, we've got our fifth installment to the Indiana Jones franchise. And I'm not hearing anything better about it.
Twilight stinks to high heaven, and I will never understand how this became such a major franchise. But I actually DID like Speed Racer. It's not great, and the original cartoon is still better, but at the time I was watching anything with Christina Ricci, and I liked her in the film. Not sure I would say anyone was truly miscast in the film - Emile Hirsch was fine as Speed, but I am not sure Matthew Fox was whom I would have considered for the role of Racer X. He's okay, I guess, but he doesn't exactly look as if he could have been Speed's brother.
Saw a review for another film that happened to have an exclamation mark as part of its title (ala Mamma Mia!) and commenting that it was "like Mother! and Airplane! and Why Did You Let Pierce Brosnan Sing!" 😂😂
Meet Dave SHOULD have been better - the idea was solid, but no one had a clue what they were doing with it. The original story was co-written by MST3K's Bill Corbett (the second Crow T Robot), but he said nothing was left of his script by the time filming began. Probably a good thing. Eddie Murphy was terribly used in the film, and if you aren't going to have Eddie Murphy go wild, what the heck do you have him in your film for?!
I don't recall most of these films and was amazed at some of the choices. There were a few on there that I felt would make worst of the year, but not many.
16:50 he’s getting his wish
Didn't the happening get released this year ?
Twilight was perfectly servicable. I don’t know what they were expecting.
Speed Racer was fantastic.
Speed Racer was terrible for anyone over 12.
Speed Racer is atrocious. It completely deserves its spot on the list.
Speed racer is not terrible it's a best movie and fantastic.
these guys are reviewers, not critics.
I loved Rachel Getting Married.
Speed Racer beyond horrible. Ace Deucey and Ali Ben Schemer would agree
Yesssss
I didn’t care for “Rachel Getting Married,” though I did think Anne Hathaway gave a strong performance. I’ve always felt it was overrated.
I’m watching this for the first time on 6/24/23, and I’m just now finding out that a well-known critic disliked that film. Upon its release, countless critics sang its praises. I wasn’t aware then that Ben Mankiewicz was a seemingly lone voice of opposition.
That hack reviewer was revealed to have been paid by studios for positive reviews so don’t pay him any attention.
I thought Vantage Point was exciting...the car chase scene with Dennis Quaid was especially effective...
