So the concept of Pandaren actually came from one of the Original Art directors, Samwise Didier, who drew a picture after his daughter was born for Christmas for his family, of a Humanoid Panda with a cub on his shoulder. Fans of the series gave it a huge response. This started several easter eggs, and jokes, with the penultimate being an april fools joke revealing Pandaren as the 5th playable race in the Warcraft III RTS. Fans were stoked, and Sam was like.. "Are you kidding me? You really want that?" So in warcraft 3, they actually added a few pandaren easter eggs, cementing them in the universe, including one of the Hire-able Neutral heroes from the tavern being a Pandaren Brewmaster.
This all happened.. at LEAST 2 years before Kung Fu Panda was even conceptualized.

Not only easter eggs were implemented, in the special horde campaign in WC3 The Frozen Throne, where you play as Rexar The Beastmaster, you can also team up with a pandaren brewmaster named Chen Stormstout who helps establish the current Horde with Rexar and Rokhan, a troll shadowhunter. He is an established character who mentions Pandaria in his dialogues. Back in 2003.

Just to make a point. Pandaren and Chen Stormstout were from before Kung Fu Panda. They appeared first in the RTS Warcraft 3, as a semi joke. But they are here as canon and it was a cool expansion.

When you make a Pandaren character, your starting zone is technically part of Pandaria, but there's so much for to see when you get to the higher levels! Also, the Pandaren race is the first race in WoW where when you are done with the starting zone, you have to choose a faction, either Alliance or Horde...
And technically, yes most the weapons used in this cinematic are in game! Chen Stormstout is so awesome!

You should really react to the pre-lore videos too, The Burdens of Shao Hao for this cinematic, Lords of War for Warlords of Draenors the next one, Harbingers for Legion and Warbringers for Battle of Azeroth they are amazing and explain a lot.
Little lore intro, after the Cataclysm the Alliance and Horde are at each other's throat and the Horde naval force corners the Alliance one and they ran into this land that they don't have charts on which is the land of Pandaria.
The Panda Is Chen Stormtout if I'm not mistaken, which is a wandering Brewmaster.

    Okay, Lore Time!
All this story is happening on Azeroth, because this is the name of the whole planet. Pandaria is a continent inhabited by panda--like Pandaren, that got surrounded by mist 10000 years ago and was merely believed to be a legend to this day.
As you might know, Alliance and Horde are the two major factions on Azeroth, and this cinematic takes place at a time when the Horde attacked the Alliance relentlessly (In Garrosh Hellscream, they had a pretty war-mongering warchief at this time). So, the first two scenes show a sea battle between an Alliance ship and a Horde ship, with both ships sinking in the end.
The orc is ship-wrecked from the Horde ship, the human of course from the alliance ship, and even washed ashore of a completly undiscovered land they continue to fight each other.
The pandaren is Chen Stormstout. His first appearance was in Warcraft 3, where he helped Thrall to found the Horde, and actually, prior to this cinematic he never was in Pandaria either.
He comes from the "Wandering Island", the starting zone for all player pandaren characters. Basically, this island is a GIANT turtle, that left pandaria with a population of pandaren on it's back a few hundred years ago, Chen and all pandaren players are also explorers to this new continent.

The Panda (Pandaren) in this video, is named Chen Stormstout. This is his homeland, but he's a wanderer, and it's actually sort of ironic because he had only just arrived in Pandaria (The place this takes place in) when the Human and Orc showed up. He was as much a stranger to his own land as they were. He's also part of a family that owns the biggest brewery on the continent, though most of his family doesn't seem to have any clue who he is. That being said they all come to accept him, and he's probably the biggest name in all of Pandaren Lore because he goes all the way back to the RTS Warcraft games.

For reference. Azeroth is the planet where (most) of the game takes place.
On that planet are about 5 continents arranged roughly in a ring. Near the center of the ring is the Broken Isle (the core of what was basically the Pangaea supercontinent of prehistoric Azeroth). North of that is Northrend, which is largely subarctic and kinda has a Norway sort of vibe. Then the Eastern Kingdoms which are sort of Tolkien-esque with human kingdoms that have sort of a European vibe, but also High Elves and Dwarves and Gnomes. Across from that, furthest west, is Kalimdor, where the Night Elves and Tauren are the dominant races. Southmost, between the southern tip of the Eastern Kingdoms and the southern tip of Kalimdor is Pandaria, which you saw featured in this cinematic.
The Alliance and Horde are largely based in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor respectively, but each faction has a certain amount of a presence on all of the continents. The fact that these two nations just can't seem to keep from kicking each other's asses is sort of the center of the game's plotline.

What I find annoying is the fact that they will reach the warbringers, the boa and shadowlands videos at some point, where you have to know the backstory to understand the pain and the frustration we suffered and they will giggle and make fun of the characters. :/

    • @tehtayziez
      @tehtayziez 3 года назад +1

Tbh, I've watched/read/played it all and felt that frustration and I kinda want to giggle and make fun of a bunch of the characters now. The story was just perpetually held back by the mmo medium because they just have to keep manufacturing reasons why everyone has to come together and learn valuable lessons about working together and then have it all be ignored and forgotten so they can make another expansion.
At the very least by now, I'm pretty sure every race would have people on faction side, but instead they're all just arbitrarily stuck into the two same factions still after all this time, but really there shouldn't even be a horde/alliance thing anymore really, only a few of the races even hate a few of the others now. Blizzard makes great character moments but are terrible at creating a long term narrative for them to all go through, with BFA and especially Sylvanas, this kinda shows alot.

Btw guys just to let you know a few little facts:
1- Azeroth is the whole world. It's her name. (I say her because she's a slumbering titan.)
2- The whole world is based around the conflicts of two factions Alliance and the Horde, Orcs and Humans. There are other neutral factions but it's not like there is any huge third kingdom.
3- WoW is not like League of Legends, It's an mmorpg so the hero of the story is essentially the character who players make, there are lore characters, but they are only at their own plots/questlines, and you can't play as them.
4- You might get really confused when you start WoW in its current state of BfA, because the questing experience and leveling has really awkward timeline switches and stuff... so i would've recommended you to wait till the next expansion shadowlands come out and then play it, they will fix the leveling and story issues.
5- Uh... last but not least, don't expect anything crazy early on... first 60 levels of WoW is just running around being a random adventurer xD
    Hope you have fun.

The cinematic takes place in The Jade Forest, the first zone that both the Horde and Alliance start in when they reach Pandaria. It is widely considered to be one of the best zones ever designed. It is breathtakingly beautiful and the story is very compelling as the two factions find themselves short of supplies and manpower after they initially clashed and got shipwrecked.
The story has you discovering the native pandaren and their culture as well as the dangers of raw emotions. In the land of Pandaria strong emotions (such as anger, despair, doubt, fear, hatred, violence, and pride) can manifest into evil spirits called Sha. That is why the Pandaren value inner peace and harmony above all else. If you play as Alliance, under the orders of Admiral Taylor you recruit the wise bipedal koi fish people called the Jinyu as allies while if you are Horde, General Nazgrim directs you to enlist the help of the mischievous and immature monkey-like Hozen. The story of the zone culminates with the two inexperienced armies clashing at the foot of an enormous statue of Yu'lon the Jade Seprent, the benevolent protector of the forest. The fighting causes the long dormant Sha of Doubt to reawaken and begin wreaking havoc.

That pandaren is none other than Chen Stormstout, a Pandaren Brewmaster Monk (basically Drunken Master style) who left his home of the Wandering Isle (a colony of Pandaren who live on the back of a giant turtle that swims around the world) to explore Azeroth and becomes the most famous Pandaren outside of Pandaria.
Once Pandaria is re-discovered, both the Alliance and Horde send expeditions there to search for allies and resources in their war against each other. As this happens, an emotional force known as the Sha, manifestations of dark emotions like Doubt, Fear, and Anger emerge and start to wreak havoc across the continent. This, combined with an insurgent Yaungol invasion (basically yak Tauren) and a swarm of Mantid looking for conquest (giant humanoid insects), cause the pandaren to look to the new arrivals for aid.
Garrosh Hellscream, Warchief of the Horde, decides to up the ante in his desire to make the Horde great again (but only for orcs, all other races he sees as weak due to their putting honor above victory), and uses a mana bomb developed by the Blood Elves to essentially nuke the Alliance outpost of Theramore, claiming all the continent of Kalimdor for the Horde, and pressing a warfront in Ashenvale forest to push back the Alliance there. This has implications later, as Jaina Proudmoore, leader of Theramore and former lover of Prince Arthas, loses her gnome apprentice in the blast and is engulfed with rage at the Horde over their deaths. She leads the Kirin Tor to Pandaria to confront the Horde, and kicks out all of the Blood Elves from the city of Dalaran.
Over the months of exploration and fighting, a rebellion begins to brew within the Horde. Vol'jin, leader of the Darkspear trolls and friend to the former warchief Thrall doesn't like what Garrosh is doing to the Horde, and confronts him, only to be banished from Orgrimmar for questioning his leadership. Vol'jin travels to Pandaria and is set upon by assassins sent by Garrosh to end his discord, but he is rescued by the Shado-pan (Buddhist monks who live solitary lives in the Kun-Lai mountains). During his convalescence he becomes friends with a Human SI:7 agent who was also injured, and the two aid the Pandaren against the coming of an ancient evil that has resurfaced: Lei Shen, The Thunder King, an ancient mogu emperor of Pandaria who has been resurrected.
Finally, Garrosh falls victim to the Sha of Pride and is infected with its power. Travelling back to Orgrimmar with the spoils of his plundering of Pandaria, he reinforces the city against invasion and orders martial law, viewing all non-orcs with suspicion. The Darkspear Rebellion gathers outside the gates of Orgrimmar, along with the Alliance expeditionary force sent to lend them aid against their common enemy, Garrosh, and sieges the city.
Deep in the bowels of the city in a vast underground fortress, Garrosh is finally fought and defeated. High King Varian Wrynn of the Alliance, against the counsel of Jaina who wants to see him dismantle the Horde, stays Thrall's hand as he's about to execute Garrosh, and says that the Pandaren are the ones who've suffered the most from Garrosh's warmaking, and that he should be remanded to their custody for a trial. Vol'jin is chosen by the leaders of the Horde races to be Warchief, and Varian tells him that so long as the Horde holds to honor and justice, things will be fine, but if anything like this ever happens again.... he will end them.

Best time to start WoW would be when the new expansion, Shadowlands, drops around november. WoW right now isnt very “new player friendly.” I started around april and seeing all the new customization options and leveling revamp that is coming makes me wish i had that when i first started.

Lol a few things. Pandaren’s have been around since the 90’s in wow lore, long before Kung fu pamdas!
The pandaren in this cinematic is Chen stormstout, a very famous pandaren. This expansion, as well as the cinematic, is about how the alliance and the horde bring their war wherever they go, including the continent of Pandaria. Pandaria was hidden with magic for a long ass time, to shield them from the war. But the war found its way to their shores anyway. Hence, the expansion “mists of Pandaria.” Hope this helps! :)

  • @seanh1321
    @seanh1321 3 года назад

So the Orc (Horde) and Human (alliance) in this cinematic arent important characters at all, I dont even think they are actually in the game, but the Panda (their race is called Pandaren) is called Chen Stormstout, and he is a major character in this expansion.
This cinematic takes place in the land of Pandaria, it hasn't been discovered by the races of the horde and alliance until now because the entire continent was surrounded by dense mists (hence the title: Mists of Pandaria). The reason why the land is covered by mist is explained in the animated short series: The Burdens of Shao Hao.

Azeroth is the main planet where the story takes place in WoW, it has many continents such as Kalimdor, Easter Kingdoms, Northrend and Pandaria. Many believe there's still a whole other side of the planet we have yet to explore yet. There are many other planets in the lore already as seen in Titan facilities/cities such as Ulduar in Northrend which have many different worlds displayed in its halls.
There's also alternate timelines and different planes, one of which is the setting for the next expansion Shadowlands which is basically the afterlife of the WoW universe.

btw these are expansion trailers you have been watching so far, so they wont contain alot of lore, its more a teaser of the upcoming expansion and what it will consist of. Example being the first trailer was show casing the character races and some classes, second trailer was showing the new races added and the main "bad guy" that the players are supposed to stop, third trailer again showing the new class and the main bad guy that you have to stop etc. Each expansion requires you to level your character up by doing quests that give you the story bit by bit until you are powerful enough and have the story and knowledge you need to find the bad guy and defeat him. You guys are missing the ingame quests which give you the story and ingame cut scenes.
edit; this expansion brings pandas as a playable race and monks a playable class.

Orc and human fight. Third party butts in, causing the orc and human to stop fighting each other and fight together against the third party.
This basically the relationship of the Horde and Alliance (the two main player factions represented by the orc and human respectively) in a nutshell. They fight each other until some third party attacks the, at which point they join forces to beat the new guy, then go back to fighting each other right after beating the new guy until another third party shows up. Rinse and repeat.

Warcraft have a large lore but most of it is in the games or books, but if u want to know more of the lore of the last expantions, since Mist of Pandaria (MoP) Blizzard make short animated films telling us about the story of some main characters in each expantion, you can see those and normally are just 6-8 min long each, I think they can help you understand better the actual WoW History,
    - The burdens of Shaohao (MoP)
    - Lords of war (WoD)
    - Harbringers (Legion)
    - Warbringers (BfA)
    - Afterlives (Shadowlands) this ones is the newest one and only have the first chapter (my mistake first chapter is 27.08.2020 we have only the trailer)
You can see too the in game cinematics chonogically you can find in RUclips compilations of those

Some lore to know about this expansion:
At the end of the last expansion, the Horde got a new Warchief named Garrosh Hellscream. Garrosh loves war and hates non-orcs, so tensions between Horde and Alliance are at an all time high.
Meanwhile, in the wake of Deathwing's return, the mists hiding Pandaria have dissipated. Now the Horde and Alliance are vying for influence and control over the continent to get the upper hand in the war.
Long ago, the Pandaren emperor Shaohao conquered his inner demons (save for his Pride) and banished an enemy from the land known as the Sha. The Sha are manifestations of negative energy that were cursed upon the land by the dying breath of the Old God Y'Shaarj (pronounced Yah-shah-Raj). The seven Sha are the Sha of Anger, Hatred, Fear, Doubt, Violence, Despair and Pride. Because the Horde and Alliance brought the negative energy of their war to Pandaria, the Sha have now been able to return.
Eventually Garrosh goes over the edge and commits some war crimes, including corrupting the Pandaren's most sacred vale with the heart of Y'Shaarj and taking the heart for his own power. Doing so, he basically single handedly resurrects the Sha of Pride. The expansion ends with the Horde and Alliance uniting to overthrow him.
In the end, Garrosh is imprisoned, but he gets broken out by the character Wrathion, who is one of the few remaining uncorrupted black dragons. With the help of a bronze dragon who can control time, they send him back through the Dark Portal, but also back in time, to the pre-apocalypse past of the world Draenor (the world where Burning Crusade takes place). They hope he can forge allies for Azeroth to help protect it from the coming Burning Legion invasion, but Garrosh a jerk so instead he unites the orc clans to conquer Azeroth himself. This leads into the next expansion you'll see, Warlords of Draenor.

The pandaren is Chen Stormstout, He was a drunkard pandaren who wanted to go travel the world and leave his homeland because he felt he's not made for the way of other pandaren, so he goes and travels everywhere possible on the world and becomes the greatest Brewmaster Monk to ever live, but then he realizes that maybe it's time to go back to pandaria and to his own people, but then the events of MoP happens and he's stuck in middle of the Horde and Alliance war.

This is actually a good representation of the slight differing views of the Alliance and the Horde. The Horde, in an unknown land, charges head first into the mists, securing a foothold to ambush the Alliance soldier later. The Alliance meanwhile takes their time to prepare a better weapon than a broken sword before carefully slogging through the mists. But faced with an unkown opponent and when the chips are down, they band together in the hipes of stopping a greater threat.

The 🐼 in the vid is Brewmaster Chen Stormstout he is every bit an outsider as the other two. He was born and raised on Shenzen Tsu the wandering isle. A colossal sea turtle.
By the way the type of person he is is a Pandaren a blend of English with Chinese. Obviously Panda is English, ren (人) means people or person. So they are Panda-people. Or in Chen's case he is a panda person.
