Speak up! Can barely hear you! :) Yea, that was a big thing... and strangely enough, helped propel Bjork to super famous status, as it was said to be her fish.

LOL, yes. Fish Gate 1990 was real.😄 It was a little crazy that the band had to answer questions about that. Some people got so upset about it, but the fish was fine. And yes, the fish did belong to Bjork. 🐠

This is why it was so hard to pigeonhole them in the '90s. I was lucky that I was a teen at the time and I was surrounded by people who loved all kinds of music. This would be played sandwiched between Pearl Jam and Guns N Roses and no one thought that was odd.

Glad you watched their actual video too. It's one of my favorites. :) Mike's outfit in this is his tribute to A Clockwork Orange's Alex character. This video is a great blend of fun, chaos, humor and sarcasm, it perfectly suits the song lyrics and the band itself.
It's not an illusion, you are hearing The bass more...The video version is actually a different studio mix than the one one the album... that features the guitar solo as a fade out, and highlights the backing vocals and keys more. This was a design choice.
Fun facts...this song hit #92 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #40 on the Mainsteam Rock chart. Though one of their more successful songs...they rarely ever play this live, they got bored of it and felt it didn't read well with live crowds. They officially announced it as their last time ever playing it in 1993. However, they did bring it back at a few shows on their last tour.

i think he alluded in an earlier video to the possibility of going thru the album The Real Thing from start to finish. If he does, boy there's some great and surprising stuff on that record. Not quite the range of craziness on Angel Dust (which i still think is their magnum opus) but a real well put together alt-rock album.

Yeah.. I was in high school when this came out. It was an awesome song. The bass guitar was accentuated because of this particular bass player. Back then, Falling to Pieces and Epic got AAAA LOT of air time on MTV, hence to the reason why the video was so “colorful”. Back then MTV was an actual source for this stuff, so the videos were just as vibrant as the songs themselves, if not more. You couldn’t just jump online and do a quick search and hear what you wanted to hear. If you didn’t run out and buy it, you sat and waited. My TV stayed on MTV during the summer back then. Good times...

Mike Patton can produce any sound with his mouth that he was hired to voice the monsters in the movie I Am Legend. Since you've started the Mike Patton rabbit hole, check out his more classical projects such as his performance of Sole E Malato @ Teatro Caupolicán for his Mondo Cane project of old Italian love songs.

fun fact, the drummer was a season ticket holder in the same section as me for the San Francisco Giants...easy to spot with that hair

react to The Real Thing title song, one of the best of FNM imo

Some of you may or may not know, Mike Patton is not FNM's original singer. I would suggest reacting to some songs by their first singer Chuck Mosley (RIP). He may have not been the greatest vocalist in the world but he had a style all his own.
And those first two albums Chuck sung on ( We Care a Lot and Introduce Yourself) are classics in their own right.
    We Care a Lot
    The Jungle
    Why Do You Bother
    As The Worm Turns
    Chinese Arithmetic
    Anne's Song
    The Crab Song

I love this track! That #Bassline ! Patton looked like a crazed Steak N Shake worker, a German beer 🍺 waitress, & a kind of Clockwork Orange type character! Or crazed surgeon? Don’t ask. I thought he was so hot in this vid when I was a youngster. Still do. 🤣✌🏻

FNM has a lot of other bands that are big fans of theirs. One example would be Anthrax. Check out "Anti-Social" from Anthrax, which is terrific.
