Shorter athletes only do better on average at shorter sprints because among the general population more shorter athletes are athletic enough to run at the necessary speeds required for the shorter sprints, while the speed required to run the 400m is slow enough to allow less athletic bodies, like that of Steven Gardiner, to not be hurt by this lower level of athleticism, but the best bodies for all sprinting distances are tall.

You mentioned his Achilles tendon, that is not his height. His old workout partner Yohan Blake ran faster than Usain has ever run when he ran his 19.26. It was said that Yohan ran faster than any recorded human in that race. The only reason he didn't break Usains world record of 19.19 was bc his start was so bad. But as far as mph no one has run faster than Yohan. Well Yohan is 5'11" tall & his "tibias" are much shorter than Usain's. Usain isn't fast bc he's tall, he was fast bc he was more powerful & executed all.of his sprint phases better than everyone else. I guarantee someone shorter & older will break both his record's. Why is Shelly-Ann Frazier Pryce destroying everyone on the track when she's 4'11" tall? Oh weight bc she's shorter than everyone else! It's about ENERGY FORCES. @@ytkylo2138 hi kylo.. that's a good achievement. Wish you all the best... Am 6.6 feet,. And age 32, do you think l can run faster? And how do you guys over there measure 1m?
‘No man under 6ft tall has ever gone under 44 seconds’ : That is incorrect Lee Evans the first man to break 44 seconds ran 43.86 seconds when he won the 400 metres at the Olympic Games in Mexico 1968 he was 5 ft 11 inches tall.
When I was younger (not saying I'm even adult) I was the fastest, but also the shortest. People in my class said that the reason I ran fast was because I ran under the wind so it didnt slow me🤣
Build also matters less the less strong of an athlete you are. Whilst at the world stage every advantage matters, at a high school level or even collegiate level better training can overcome the small advantages that build and genetic talent bring. So unless you're trying to go for the Olympics, it really doesn't matter what height you are-- just train slightly better and dust the tall kids who didn't work as hard.
The further a point is from the fulcrum, the faster it rotates, so a taller sprinter can get more foot speed , thus it will collide with the ground at a faster speed, that will produce a bigger ground reaction force
Height doesn't matters its the SIZE OF THE LEG which matters for ex.... CHRISTIAN COLMAN.. his legs r as big as Justin gatlin has... COLMAN's upper body is short but the lower portion is as big like 6feet Athlete ..... This is the thing that no one tries to understand..
Being short is almost always a disadvantage. In almost all sports being short will make it harder for you. That said keep grinding and you will get there.
@@theadventurest4345 as a 5'5 guy I can understand you. I'm not good in sprinting but I built muscles faster than the taller guys. And I have their respect.

@@RlCKlE Srry to hear that man, I have always been naturally fast before I got taller. My height did not affect my running. I just improved my running form.
@@James-tl1bq longer stride means you are in the air longer slowing down. The more often your feet hit the ground the more you can add force to moving forward. Longer stride means you can hit ground less so you use less energy to keep in motion (not faster motion necessarily). So less energy used means you can run for longer distances. Basically what guy said in video.
I know people that know Andre Cason, they all told me he's absolutely not 5'6" tall. They said he's about 5'3"-4" tall. You can tell he's that short compared to everyone around him when he raced them.
Bruh, it's literally the same like asking if a smaller wheel can roll faster than a bigger wheel. It may roll faster but not more distance in the same amount of time than a bigger wheel, so the bigger wheel is the longer legs, same physics and logic.
You can do a few things about, the first and most important thing is race distribution, despite the short length of the 100m u can still break down the 100m in training to focus on how u runeach phase, from the blocks, the first 20m and so on, just work on getting proper breakdown workouts to manage how much u accelerate in each phase, this will help in extending how long you hold top speed amd how much the speed decreases afterwards.
@@TrackandFieldNation hi bro.. am around 6.6 or 6.7 feet tall, 32 years of age, want to practice 100m, l need to reduce some weight though. Do you think l've still got a chance? And how is 1m measured on track? Thanks
well said. It's just like that. There is probably an advantage for people with longer limbs/feet in relation to their height. Take Bingtian Su as an example. He doesn't look like he is capable to run sub 10s. Of course he has a cracy efficient CNS wich is the main reason for is performance. But his feet and toes are really long in relation to his body too. Coleman also has relative long limbs and a proximal weight distribution.
I’m 5’7 and found it strange growing up how guys my height were always faster than 6 feet+ guys I think over long distance taller guys would win but when It came to sprinting short distances like in football I was never outrun by anyone taller.
@@poomipatlurkudom3883 dunno play striker in football...and it's no coincidence that 7 out of 10 of the premier league top goal scorers of all time are all under 6ft - low centre of gravity + fast acceleration and very quick over 50m
Yes I'm 5'6 and recently won the 100m at sports day. interestingly I was racing somebody 6'7, in the video our legs cycle in unison for most of the race which means we have the same stride frequency, but I feel like being short made me be able to generate more explosive power so my stride length was actually bigger
Height? It’s about leg length, measuring from the hip to the knee to the ankle and foot length! Total height of the athlete is less a factor. Additionally, before Carl and Usain, coaches pushed tall athletes to the longer events? Fast, is measured in finishing time not stride frequency? How quickly can you cover the distance, not how fast your legs move?
I think it’s a lot harder to accomplish what he has done at such a size but I think 6’5 has more potential for best times over other heights just it’s more difficult to reach that potential
Its hard for tall people to build fast twitch muscles because their limbs muscles can grow to be so heavy. It’d take a talented athlete with the right training from a young age to execute it
Being 5'6 with good endurance. I can breach top speed instantly, but I won't shit out anytime soon either. I'd race in 9th grade, and notice how taller kids would eventually catch up and we'd tie.
@@jaygaming6 I believe he was discussing overcoming inertia. Relatively speaking, properties that produce changes in motion and/or movement in time, as would be this example.
From 1st grade to 10th grade during my school days i always used to come 1st... During my district level tournament i defeated 6 feet tall boys.. My height is 5.4ft. i never lost a single race in my lifetime... Sometimes i used to feel like it is god gifted sprinting technique to me because i always run touching only my toes and while running i always felt like m flying not running.
my confident level boost up whenever im in a race,i havent lost a race yet. im the fastest guy in my university and planning to join next year All india inter university sports meet
I used to have the toes technique and that’s how I was so fast but now I can’t do it I haven’t done it in so many years I lost the technique I don’t know if it made me faster or anything but I think as I got taller the harder it became
Limb length is also important. Sprinters have a smaller torso and longer legs than a normal person of the same height. This gives them a higher center of gravity which is goos for running inna straight line. Which is why Lionel messi can zig zag so well despite not having amazing too end spees
Im a helicopter pilot. It is amazing how theory of rotrary flight and sports mechanics basically go hand in hand. Now heres my theory. A taller person can run faster with greater ease. If you have a 6 foot 4 person walking normally (normal in comparison to how they naturally feel) and that person does 10 strides. Then another person who is 5 foot 7 does the same. (Both people walking normally). The 6 ft 4 person will be around 2 metres infront. Both people operating at say 50% energy for arguments sake. Now this video if good but it misses out the most important thing. Energy consumption / effort. These 5ft 5 people who won would of been working at 150% energy theoretically, where a 6 ft 4 person would of done the same with 90% energy. Same thing with swimmers. Michael phelps is 6 foot 4. It is easier for a taller person to cover more ground with the same 'fuel flow'. However they will fall off the track in a steep turn lol. I am 5 ft 7 and I know that swimming and running are putting me at a natural disadvantage. Instead I do gymnastics and Ninja Academy. The tall people suck at these sports. The longer your limbs are the further they are away from your center of mass. The longer the limbs are hte further they have to travel to create a same amount of rotational degrees... Smaller people are better endurance runners because of volume size to body ratio
Height matters in majority of sports. If you have a guy who’s tall and can move his body faster or just as fast as everyone else, it’s over. I.E Lebron James, Wilt Chamberlain, Usain Bolt, Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Thomas Hearns, Bo Jackson, Michael Jordan, Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Lennox Lewis. I mean the list goes on and on. It’s not rocket science.
Basketball and contact sports are obviously not the same a sprinting. Sprinting is not "most sports" and this video is about sorinting. Being able to catch a football pass over everyone else's head is an advantage. Is being tall an advantage for gymnasts? For divers? For Jockeys? For catchers in baseball? For freestyle skiers and snowboarders?
@@proverbalizer All those athletes I mentioned were dominant because they were able to use their size as an advantage relative to their skill. In contact sports like, football, basketball, hockey, boxing, UFC, martial arts. But height can also give advantages in tennis, baseball, swimming, as well track and field. In all those sports, the taller guy will always be favored over the smaller guy if their equal in skill. When I say majority, I was initially referring to all contact sports but even in most non contact sports, other than a form of dancing, height matters. Period.
"we can establish the fact that being either a tall or a short as a sprinter has its benefits and we cannot use them as excuses". Uh huh. This is why we don't see 4'11 people sprinting in the Olympics... Or 6'6" people... Cause they're just full of excuses. I mean, the 4'9"- 4'11" people understand hard work and discipline when it comes to being Olympic gymnasts with ideal genetics for power sports, but are far too lazy to learn how to sprint. I mean, why not just be honest and say, if you're really short or tall, you can be good, but never great, everything else being equal.
With the messi thing it's not specifically because of his height because you have guys like the original Ronaldo from Brazil who is equally as good if not better than messi at dribbling and getting passed players. And hes like over 6ft
@@xiamfinal571 ruclips.net/video/BFvbopj3Vlg/видео.html His barca season was arguably better but watch that. He was basically Cr7 and messi in one player. When you're done with that watch how easily he took on keepers and sent them the wrong way, he was so good at dribbling that he would round keepers like they were kids. Messi was incredibly good in his dribbling prime it's a toss up between them two for me. Only because they are much much ^^ TALLER ^^ than the Rabbit will ever be!! I'm a black/mixed race man. And, I once visited a college Track meet. And there were almost All black dudes, and only ('1') white guy. But the view of the race that I had, was from the opposite side of the track. And I watched the 100 meter sprint. Then,... The white guy started jumping like a kangaroo 🦘, and he was only prancing in an EXTREMELY OPEN wind sprint. It looked SOOOOOOOO STRANGE!!! 😂... but the white man did a 10.34, right there 👍🏾 and all of the black men only did 11:50's,--to-- like 11:14's, etc. And that's when I understood, that it's mostly about 'technique'. And not necessarily All about race, or genetics 🧬, or bodily proportions and or strength. Etc. Hussein Bolt has just enough muscle 💪🏿, and has an open enough stride, and a flat chest. Which helps most sprinters. And he is simply TALLER than everyone else is. And all of these things lead to his ability to sprint to the 100 meter mark, faster than everybody else can. I mean.... Just imagine 🤔.... what if there were just as many TALL sprinters on the track. ((Then Hussein Bolt would have some SERIOUS COMPITITION!!!! and other men would easily break his records. Even in biblical times, the GIANTS would run up on people. ((It's because they can))!!! ((Because they are BIGGER, and TALLER. And so they cover more ground. It's that simple.👍🏾

Build also matters less the less strong of an athlete you are. Whilst at the world stage every advantage matters, at a high school level or even collegiate level better training can overcome the small advantages that build and genetic talent bring. The further a point is from the fulcrum, the faster it rotates, so a taller sprinter can get more foot speed , thus it will collide with the ground at a faster speed, that will produce a bigger ground reaction force
Sounds possible.
This speed isn't a limiting factor, almost all of the force is built in to moving the body itself.

Nice
That's a good one! Never heard it before, seems correct.
A smaller wheel will always roll faster going down a hill cause its lighter and can pick up more speed
Thats not a good comparison
I’m 19 5’9 currently running 10.6 I have fast turnovers but I wish I was taller just because of the fact that you run out of energy quicker
You can do a few things about, the first and most important thing is race distribution, despite the short length of the 100m u can still break down the 100m in training to focus on how u runeach phase, from the blocks, the first 20m and so on, just work on getting proper breakdown workouts to manage how much u accelerate in each phase, this will help in extending how long you hold top speed amd how much the speed decreases afterwards.

Yeah i actually agree with that
Su is shorter than Coleman
CNS becomes efficient because of lots of proper training.

Yes I'm 5'6 and recently won the 100m at sports day. interestingly I was racing somebody 6'7, in the video our legs cycle in unison for most of the race which means we have the same stride frequency, but I feel like being short made me be able to generate more explosive power so my stride length was actually bigger
Short powerful and quick is just as important as long strides.
Do you think Usain is redefining what the optimal body is for 100m? I still think 6'5 is too tall but it's hard to argue against his results.
I think it’s a lot harder to accomplish what he has done at such a size but I think 6’5 has more potential for best times over other heights just it’s more difficult to reach that potential

Limb length is also important. Sprinters have a smaller torso and longer legs than a normal person of the same height. This gives them a higher center of gravity which is goos for running inna straight line.
Which is why Lionel messi can zig zag so well despite not having amazing too end spees
First good work bro
Thank you!
