- MTV News with Kurt Loder on death of Kurt Cobain of Nirvana during MTV Dreamtime (1994.04.11)
Thanks to the legendary duo of Art & Steve who recorded and preserved the original 120 episode from whence this clip has been derived!
If you are an avid 120 Minutes fan and a trader/collector of actual episodes of the show, do please drop me a line. Although I have a fair number of shows, I am always looking for more in order to archive as many as possible, if you are willing to share, trade, or sell, please contact me.
If you recorded the show on VHS and still have your original video tapes but don’t have the capability of transferring to dvd and/or digital, I’d be more than happy to transfer them for you and send your original VHS back to you along with dvd and/or digital files.

RIP Kurt ♥🕊
I like how Kurt reports factually without emoting. MTV did news better then than news does news now.
This is how all news used to be. I miss it.
Two different things that can't be compared being the Internet was a military construction when Kurt was doing such news ... More like a reverse engineered alien construction that humans used as a construct that can't be taken credit for as humans
I never even like realized ... Kurt reports on Kurt 🤔
Except half of what he said was proved to be wrong, that's not news it's assuming.
@@tiffanybatcheller-harris522bullshit, he was with MTV since 80's
When MTV news was actually the news.
Loder was practically our Cronkite.
I'll never forget that day. I walked into my school, I was 15 at the time, and kids were sitting in the halls, crying, a few screaming, heads buried in their arms. My best friend ran up to me, almost hysterical, and threw her arms around me. R.I.P Kurt. 😢
I was just thinking about the MTV broadcast so I decided to look for it.
I was 15 as well, at my first high school girlfriends house.
We have grown our separate ways with kids now, but still good friends with her. We live 3 blocks away from each other🙂
No way people were screaming
@@willsr2112 Really? You were there? Funny, I don't remember you.
@@elizabethcooper8598 it just seems hard to believe
@@willsr2112 Hard for you to believe. Not so hard for others who had similar experiences. Try not to judge people.
I was a senior in college. For my generation, this was our Kennedy assassination moment and Kurt Loder was our Walter Cronkite.
Goosebumps watching this all these years later💔
i was watching MTV when this aired one day after school in '94. It was shocking... I thought I was dreaming.
I was watching this live all those years ago
I was 8 and this very segment was what made me discover Nirvana for the first time. Been a hardcore fan ever since. Rest in Peace Kurt Cobain, and respect, Kurt Loder. 🤘🏽🥲💔🖤
I turned 9 on April 4th 1994 and I didn’t know about Nirvana for another 8 years
I was 7 and same here
I was 12, and knew of him because my sister was this cool alternative rock chick back then. Crazy how much time passed since then!
Kurt died on the 5th...found on the 8th
@@RetroMan- I know that
Don’t make this about you. Nobody cares.
This is about me, I was 10 when this happened and I remember watching this clip on TV and couldn’t believe it.
Nevermind was sonically a great album. I'm a professional drummer, and I've played death metal and doom metal, when i recorded with the doom metal band, the engineer had that CD on hand. I remember asking him about if he liked that CD. He said yes the band was ok, but the sound on that album is great, and he was right he said he used it as a reference for drums, and bass. You can hear all the instruments, all on the same level.
Sneap is no joke
It's my favorite album "sonically" as you say. The masters are just perfect.
Yupe I remember this and Layne Staley went to rehab that week as well.
Wow never knew that I know everything nirvana or all music in general. I’m like a damn music historian. Lol
It changed so many lives.
I was 11 years old when this happened
Me too 😢😢
I was going on 11 the following month.
This was a Where-Were-You-When moment for Gen-X and Xennials.
I was -8 years old when he died 💔💔💔 I miss him I really wish I could turn back
Remember this like yesterday. Exactly where I was and who was in the room. College house. It gutted everyone.
I was 24 in my truck listening to the cd. SLTS. R.I.P.
The Bass toss...UCLA...I was there...Crazy!
I was class of 96 tears!
Was such a sad day. He was so talented
I watched this live when I was 8 in front of a big wooden console tv with a dial and rabbit ears. I was lucky I had an older sister who put me on to good music so this was really devastating to me
I was 13, I will never forget it, Miss ya kurt
Fred Armisen from the 'bring MTV back!' Portlandia episode said that Kurt had a little tear when announcing this....there was no freakin' tear! Fred's a *LIAR!!!*
Just came from watching that episode. I think it's intentional, making the point that Spyke is over-romanticising the era and projects his own emotions on Kurt's reporting.
@@dengueberries
Poignant point
Now I think about it, this is basically "CBS Newsbreak/NBC News Digest/ABC News Brief".
Rest In Peace Kurt Cobain
I remember when this happened my wife at the time told me about it when I got home from work prior to Kurt's death I think John Candy had died a week or two prior
Rest easy
KC 💙
I was 2.5 years old when this happened. Obviously i dont remember it. I do recall knowing aboutnit in early 1996. Heard the radio station 99.3 CFOX in vancouver bc talking about it
I was 6 nearly 7 when this happened
I saw this that night. I was waiting to get picked up for a middle school dance. I was a very musically mature 12 yr old
1993 i love kurtvana est in my mind 2001 you know your rights 😁🇺🇲🤘😞💪👍🕯️🙇😁whatever
Re open the investigation ’Soaked in bleach’ 🥴
Was this the first breaking news?
No. Over the immediate couple days following there were numerous iterations of the story as more details were emerging. The original announcement was quite brief, around 90 seconds, and it interrupted the broadcast of whatever segment was on. Loder read a statement from Courtney Love soon after the NBC affiliate in Seattle broke the story.
I wish mtv never had to make this new 😢
Where did he get the weird detail he repeats in these about a "house he owned, but didn't live in anymore'' ??? He owned the house. He had just purchased it a few months before and barely had moved in before going on the European In Utero tour, but he lived there. Only a total of like 6 weeks, but he was definitely living there during the intervention that occurred at the house on March 25, 1994 after he and Dylan came downstairs from shooting drugs all night..
It's probably two details
1. They knew his address of record (remember how the paparazzi was in the 90s)
2. They knew through property records he'd owned the house (like having someone local to a records request, a news agency could find that out v easily then)
Where did you get YOUR details?
Moi? Considering I could pry teach a college class on Kurt Cobain, MY details are verified, accurate, and true. @@RevenantEternal
god it just reminds me of that south park episode
RIP Mike Bloomfield, angel masquerading as a human in an evil ugly world. "Kristy" is a fraud. Love him for ever🥀💔
"zapp...ert" ...remember that, Loder?
"Best New Artist" in 1991 when they started in 1987?? wtf ever
the best day ever
Okay. Reading the comments, I need to set the record straight! I was born spring '67, "the other Cobain" from NY, never used Seatle heroin, and without a band! So I didn't find fame. Ahead of Kurt in some ways, behind in others! The point is!! Loder WAS THE one who interviewed them for MTV, WITH ALL THE SIGNS everyone missed!! In his monotone you see here. Calling Cobain out, even MOCKING the depression & being condescending to Cobain, leading up to what you witness right here, as the #1 GUY reading what he knows is TIMELESS HISTORY! LIVE on the spot! Probably full of guilt he has to block and be professional as possible! No one could have known! Now it's too late! (besides Ricky Rackman, headbanger's ball/David Kendall, 120 min/ Tabitha Soren interviews!) For my peers, this was OUR adult John Lennon assassination, which happened when we were 13, AND ALSO FOR KURT!!!
Murdered
U tested positive for correct, at least his kid want nothing to do with mama!
Loder is 78. 😒 Also nirvana blows

WHAT COLOR WERE KURT COBAINS EYES?
BLUE,ONE BLEW THIS WAY,ONE BLEW THAT WAY.
'He'd been killed by a blast to the head from a 12 gauge shotgun.'
Kurt Loder was pretty blunt about the manner in which Kurt died. He could have simply said he committed suicide and left it at that...
Wanna cry abt it?
@@grindingshiba You bet I do, Karen...
Exactly. I think it was disrespectful.
News used to be, and is supposed to be factual, when no one cared about your
lil feelwings, it was much better then.
Loder doesn’t decide what he says. He’s reading from a teleprompter
Just like in South Park. lol
Bruh
He faked his death
I think it's disrespectful to go into detail about "a blast to the head from a 12 gauge shot gun."
Crystal generation
may be considered that today, but for such high profile star, people would have really wanted to know the caue of death. kurt was huge!
He lost his salvation 😢
WTF?
