My Son and I started at 1pm and finished at 6pm, jussst before darkness. After 5 Hours and not removing the Wheels (bad decision), we checked the front end for fitment and the lights all worked fine. We high-fived and headed off to a nice dinner (on me). While I was changing my britches, I noticed two small screws and one 10MM bolt. I quietly placed those 3 in the bottom of the trash can and I'm not telling anyone!!! Thanks again!!! The Headlight Aim needs to be readjusted but the Manual states to return the SRX immediately back to the Dealership, Do not pass GO and Do Not Collect $200. dollars!!!
A good friend of mine has this same car and had the same issues with the reflectors for the halogen bulbs being burnt away. I was able to get the housings both changed within a few hours. I appreciate you and the video. Thanks, you saved me a headache and some time.
Thanks for the video! You are a very good friend! A couple of things I noticed for other non-professional (amateur) mechanics: 1. My SRX had the rubber seal still attached to all the plastic pieces up underneath the hood. Just be careful removing those. It’s very easy when you just lift it, you will see that it’s being held with integrated simple hooks. 2. There are a couple of 10mm bolts on the splash pan underneath that may still attached to the bumper. If it is, that works out like a champ because I was able to just lower the whole front bumper assembly down and it sat at the front of the vehicle and I didn’t even need to disconnect any of the sensors. 3. You will need a lug wrench to remove the lugs. At least I did because I have a 2016 that didn’t come with a spare tire. 4. His tip about the reinstallation of the 7 mm bolt is priceless! I would also add to save that to be one of the last bolts to reinstall because you will want to make sure your bumper is fully aligned and tight! 5. Lastly, if you can find a buddy like him, do it! It took me a little bit longer (~3.5 hrs) because the headlight assemblies that I bought had dust covers (where the lightbulbs go) that had no O-ring grease on them, so it was very difficult to remove them. I actually snapped off the plastic wings on one of the caps! I ended up destroying the plastic cover, but was careful in doing so, if that makes sense. I ended up using the old dust cover off the OEM assembly.
Thanks for the comments. I purchased a 2016 last week and can not drive at night because the headlights are very dim. The dealership reported today the cost is $2700 to replace both headlight systems. What headlight part did you purchase?
I own a SRX. There was a recall on the headlights as well as a class action lawsuit that was settled in favor of the consumers. I would add, that if you are going to all of the trouble to swap out the headlights, get yourself a good low beam bulb and put that in too. It can be done with the bumper on (I've done it) but it's easier with it off. I realize your friend is just getting ready to sell it, so no need for new bulbs. Good job!
I have the same problem my low beam are so cloudy it's almost impossible to see at night . They used to be great now at 50 thousand miles it's almost impossible to see on low beam. The dealer said 26 hundred to replace them been trying to get them to fix it for two years .they told me that they replaced the low beam bulbs cost me one hundred they look the same. Any advice on the recall would greatly be appreciated. Thanks
The class action lawsuit was resolved, but it was very weak. It only covered Florida and California consumers. Plus it only covered the 2010 - 2015 SRX models. 2016 was a No-Go in the lawsuit.
I had an 05 Maxima that you had to take the bumper cover off to change the headlight bulbs. I feel your pain. Lol. Good of you to do that for a friend.
Yeah. The manufacturer wants us to have take the vehicles back to the dealership to get simple stuff done. Actually smart on their part but not cool for the people who can’t do it themselves.
I own a SRX with the same problem. I am not a mechanic so you really impressed me with your skills. I will show your video to my mechanic and I am sure that your explanation will save him a lot of trouble. Thanks for your excellent video and good luck with all your projects.
Great Video!! If you need another good friend, sign me up. The real issue here is, on the Backside where the Bulb plugs in. GM decided to make these out of Plastic and spray paint them (very lighting and Cheaply) that the Heat from the bulb just ruins them!! I've replaced the Bulbs with HID, then back to Halogen, finally to LED!! That was a Fun Day. Once the Reflector Housing has had the Chrome Paint burned away, that's it. So...people have to buy a New Headlight assembly and start over!! Thanks GM!! Anyways,, that's the Main Cause of all these SRX with DIM lights. Very similar to a Flashlight. if the Chrome Reflector behind the bulb gets rusty, its time for a new Flashlight. NOW... there is a Recall and Lawsuit against Cadillac but I've never heard of anyone getting reimbursed yet!!! I found the easiest thing to do is trade all that crap for a Lexus. Drives nicer and I can see at night!!
Good Monday evening TW.. one hand washes the other buddy.. great tutorial on your friends caddy.... It's a little dirty but with a little elbow grease it'll come out nice n clean.. not too mention all them leaves and twig's in the wiper valley cover.. a little TLC is what that caddy needs.. great tutorial as always my friend 👍🇺🇲
Do you have a video of the patina 49ish chevy? I scrolled and didnt see any. My apologies if the video is there and i didnt see it. Any info is appreciated. Beautiful car.
I've watched this and took Notes and MY son said he will help me!! Uh,,, When did you put the Bulbs back into the New Headlights?? Before assembly or After?? Thank you Soooo Much!!!
I need some help SRX owners. I never did any mechanic work till now, I have an 08, I am needing to remove the bumper, I got the grill off, I can't get the bumper off, I can see where the bolt slides forward but it's stuck, underneath I feel a plastic fastener or screw but I don't see anything on top to remove... I'm stuck on the sides behind the wheel well and head lights I got the covers off and pushed to the side I even pulled the headlight out, all I see is that bolt thats supposed to slide over, is it safe to yank on it I'm afraid I'm going to break it, or is there something I might of overlooked.
What?!? A tool?! I ended up using a medium flat tip screwdriver driver to get underneath and pry it up carefully! I should have read your tutorial also. Haha
Any information on the recall would be great .dealer tell me that they don't know any thing about it they went 25 hundred to replace them because of the low beam light bulb.s then I will get the same thing in two to f our years that I have now (help ) I really like the car put it has a lot of problems.
Honda the same way had to remove the whole front clip and then some just to get headlights out. I used a razor blade like that once on a box of headlights it scratched all the way down it cause they had it packed at the top I was so mad. I also learned the hardway check em see if the work before you put everything back together... 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I wonder how long those replacement Will hold up
No idea. Seemed as good as the original
Not very long if the bulbs are not changed out to LED. The heat from the HIDs destroys the reflective surface.
Could be the case
Nice Job !! Thank YOU
Thank you
My lights are out but looks like you have to do same process just to change bulbs???
I believe so
What year is this srx? Doesn't look anything like the front of my girlfriend's 2007
No idea. Been a while and wasn't mine
No condensation problem?
Not that I have heard. I wasn't mine
I replaced a set on a 2015 SRX and one of the "new" had a broken wire in and to remove it again.
That would suck

Just replace bulbs

O need to remove the inner wells. Nor the tires just rotate the to the side away when your working in there.
You could do that if it runs. Lol
