    So due to this video, I purchased one of these. Following many crashes & my teaching someone more novice than I the cowl shattered, the weak plastic bits in the landing gear (the bits connected to the springs) & the bottom being ripped out & glued back in, it STILL flew until a heavy nose first crash bent the motor prop post, I discovered that the motor from the UMX turbo Timber fits is a perfect replacement EXCEPT both the motor & ESC are female, so I joined them with staples & taped them together. The 3 blade prop from the timber & motor are far smoother and stronger than the original that came with the plane it's a far better plane now

    You gotta keep the air speed up in the turns otherwise it will tip stall like you have found out. I'm gonna try some flap mod to the wing and see if it can fly slower in turns without stalling.

      Saw your video sir, as well as others. Have the same plane. I modded it with vortex generators on the outer half spans leading edges. That pretty much tamed it, i can fly it a little slower now, even the stall is much milder with less tendency to spin

    THE PROBLEM IS ACTUALLY with the Gyro/Stabilization system intermittently giving full left rudder lock and if not high enough to recover will take you DOWN! I've actually tested it on the bench and was able to make it happen!

    Do not get this model plane. It is nearly uncontrollable, the translation in the manual is awful. The aircraft crashes extremely easily and randomly spirals out of the air for no reason at all. The wheels are always coming off and it is really difficult to put together, whoever did the translation must barely know English.

      Got mine about 2 yrs ago. Totally dismantled it thinking to add better electronics. Never did that so just yesterday I haf watched a Brian Phillips vid of it flying pretty good. Then learned what he did and I put it all back together yesterday. Yesterday I also learned how to turn off the gyro that I never read the manual. So today will be a whole new maiden Gyro off to see how it does. I hope that it does well. If not, then like stated "do not buy this plane". I see its still for sell and at the same under 100 price. It only looks "Amazing".. Good to be displayed somehow for the most part.

    This plane definitely has issues. Your crash at 4:13 was not a tip stall but rather the gyros going to full rudder deflection. Not your fault. I have seen it happen in early every review video. GroundControlRC has already mounted an aftermarket RX with no gyro in his and has not experienced this tip stall issue anymore. That's because it never was one.
    There have been theories, but I honestly believe the problem is in the choice by the manufacturer to mount the receiver and gyro so far behind the wing and the C/G by mounting it in the tail section behind the cabin. They did so because the detailed cockpit with seats left no room for the RX in the ideal and necessary location. Bad choice. These receivers must be mounted close to said C/G point to get the correct rotation and lateral / vertical motion from their accelerometers to respond properly with the proper servo motions.
    By mounting the RX with gyro sensors in the back, said sensors experience lateral and vertical motions with yaw and pitch changes instead of just the rolling forces, and I think this is confusing the software on occasion. In almost every vid the plane eventually kicks over full rudder and spins down. Not classic tip stalls which can be recovered from as far as I have seen.
    I have an A160 now and was shocked to see where they put the receiver (I build customs). I hope to find a crashed and rough looking but still flyable A160 cheap someday that I can experiment with the stock XK receiver in different locations to attempt to prove or disprove my theory. I have no desire to damage my new plane this way in testing, so I need to find a test mule. Someday.
    Happy flying!

  • @Ospif1
    @Ospif1 3 года назад +2

    Moving the rudder connection to the outer most hole helps reduce the tip stall issue which implies that it's to do with too much rudder with the stabilisation mode on, at least in my experience.
    I avoid sharp turns unless I'm quite high now to be safe. Apart from that I am having a lot of fun with it, but I do feel there would be better options for the price thanks to that tip stall condition which will catch the vast majority if beginners out through no real fault of their own.

    pay no attention to all the bad press this plane gets. it just has some configuration issues mostly like the rudder rod needs to be at the last slot and some other easily solved problems. Which it shouldn't! granted this makes for a terrible out of the box experience. but if you read up and do some of the fixes people have discovered it needs the hard way you'll have a sweet little piper, that said there are other airplanes that will fly perfectly out of the box but i got mine for 40 bucks! so shes a winner!

    Looks like a great plane. In the lead-up, and during World War II, The British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) coloured all of their planes that same shade of yellow...furthermore, the "G-" on the registration number (G-NCUB) means that the registration is from Great Britain. Canadian registration numbers start with "C-", of course. US numbers start with "N" without the dash. BUT...the Piper Cub was never used in the BCATP! On the other hand, the US equivalent training program, The Civilian Pilot Training Program (CPTP) *did* use the Piper Cub. And that same paint colour, chrome yellow, which later became known as "Cub Yellow" was used on the planes. So it looks like someone didn't do their research too well and confused the two...
    Am I too much of an airplane nerd?!?!
    Interestingly...the landing gear looks exactly like the system that is on Flite Test's brand new (and very scale) RC version of Trent Palmer's FreedomFox aircraft. I would recommend it to you people!

    How does it compare to the hobbyzone champ?

    • @DominicGreen432
      @DominicGreen432 4 года назад +1

      Leaps and bounds better.
      A mode similar to SAFE, plus Ailerons and a brushless motor.

    • @itsdanny83
      @itsdanny83 4 года назад

      @@DominicGreen432 yeah I believe it would be a lot better I seen brushless motor always a plus and a better battery. I wonder if it would bind with the Spektrum dx6i controller
      Thank you by the way

    • @chadpollman7970
      @chadpollman7970 4 года назад +2

      The Champ will bind with a Spektrum radio; both use DSMX (or at worst, DSM2; both are DSM protocols).
      XK normally uses either FlySky or Futaba S-FHSS for their gear. Neither will bind with any stock Spektrum radio I know of. Your best bet for compatibility is probably a multi-protocol radio (e.g. Jumper), assuming you don’t want to use the included stock transmitter.
      Edit:
      Just looked at the product page. Per one of the reviews, this XK airplane uses the KN protocol. So, should work fine with a multi-protocol transmitter that runs Deviation or OpenTX firmware.

    Supply and demand has struck again! 🤣 That "$99" plane is now $144.99 at the link provided.

    • @zanderbrandt1730
      @zanderbrandt1730 2 года назад +3

      Its mostly supply, the demand for this little guy isn't that high. Its scale, beautiful, brushless, and EPP construction. Its a great airframe for experienced modders to make into something great. Out of the box, its a bit terrible. The plastic parts make it fly heavy for its size, but the biggest problem is the stability issues associated with the rudder on this plane. The stabilization throws the rudder way too much, and when you're on high throttle it will "lock" the rudder in the last position you had it in until you let off. Puts the plane into a "death spiral". The CG is also tail heavy, and without custom work to cut out foam it will add to the stability.
      You can still get it from WL toys direct on aliexpress, but I still wouldnt recommend it for beginners or people who don't re-work their planes.

    Thanks for the video. I've decided not to buy it because I think the wing loading is to high for a scale Cub. It is nice looking.

      FYI - being somewhat depressed and not buying the Cub, i wound up buying the 850 mm Eflite Pitts. When I was a teen Cox had come out with this great looking .010 Pitts CL. It looked beautiful. I'm contemplating putting a glossy overcoat on her. I'll do some experimenting before I commit to the Pitts. I just thought of a good excuse for buying it. 7 Sep will be my 60th anniversary of enlisting in the Navy. Works for me.

    I was thinking about this one or the Volantex Sports Cub 761-4 as my first new plane. (Have made non-RC balsa gliders and smaller rubber band kit planes as a kid. - All that dope ate most of my brain cells). :)
    I ended up with the Volantex, based on all the good reviews of Volantex planes. It's on it's way by mail now. My goal is the E-flite A-10. That one just looks amazing. Do you think I'll be able to go from the Cub to the A-10 in one go, or do you recommend a gateway plane?
    If I can get my kids hooked on RC, I will definitely buy this one as well, so we can fly together.

    Speaking of XK; do you guys still fly your A800? I bought two of them and they have both crapped out on me due to different defects. Very bummed as I loved that little glider and now no longer have much faith in XK and the longevity of their planes.
