  • Knops are an adjustable earplug that raised over $600,000 USD on Kickstarter / Indiegogo. Now I've got to figure out why... especially with a price tag of close to $100 (depending on model).

      Like Rodrigo says, and Will in the show. Imagine wanting to enjoy some of the life of a concert without risking yourself. Normal earplugs would work too well and be a problem. That being said I can't imagine buying this product.

      Random Savage saying that wireless EM from the likes of Bluetooth and WiFi causes “interference and discomfort” with the human body is demonstrably not true. Double-blind clinical and scientific testing has debunked every single case of this. The “condition” that some claim to have (EM sensitivity) is psychosomatic and just as ridiculous as the cancer claims. Saying that it isn’t ridiculous because users are concerned with EM causing “interference and discomfort” with the human body is just as laughable as saying that it causes cancer. Even if no cell phones and WiFi and Bluetooth and radio/TV existed you would still be bathed in about the same levels of background EM from space. It’s why old TVs showed static when they were on channels with no broadcast. You’d have to live inside a Faraday cage to avoid most of it, and that’s quite a big step for a condition that exists purely in people’s heads. Just to be clear: their pain may be real, but it’s still psychosomatic.

      The silly thing is he didn't do any damn research on this. They aren't $100. They're $69 or $89. The two models have exactly the same functionality, but the pricier ones just have knurling on the dial.

    • @SquarelyGames
      @SquarelyGames 6 лет назад +2

      Grocery store earplugs can't change the volume to when you need to hear someone speak, and they muddles the sound. Learn about sound curves. Cheap earphones takes away the highs, that's why som many people hate using them at concerts. The Knops are supposed to have a flat curve and the sound will be mostly the same, just lower. The difference is night and day. It's almost an entirely different product.

  • @GJBrass

    Interesting. As an orchestral brass musician I have custom molded earplugs with interchangeable filters that filter out different levels of dBs. Those ran me $150, but then again those are molded to my ear for a perfect fit. The world of high end earplugs is quite pricey, but there are certainly uses for them.

    Perfect for drowning out annoying noises, like if I was working with you and you were talking. :)

    If these could also function as hearing aids and earbuds, take my money. But they only do one thing, turn the volume down. That's not worth $100. That's not worth $50. I'd pay max $20 for these and they better be the same quality that was shown here in the video.

      They have made these for ages look up hunting goods :) 20-25NRR with a compressor you can set for loud noise to kick in in .02 seconds and amplification for quiet all less then 100$ this product is a rip off for the price.

    • @HolyJukebox
      @HolyJukebox 6 лет назад

      Probably because you don't value your ears that much... They are my main tool & work asset and $100 does not seem a lot to protect them while still being able to ear clearly what I play. Plus being able to switch them off is really convenient in-between songs... But yeah $100 could be a bit too much, but not crazy too much. And btw, most $20 music plugs suck anyway, even though I've tried a lot of them ;)

    • @boblister6174
      @boblister6174 6 лет назад

      still 100$ for 20NRR is to much in my books. I agree the 20$ ones are junk but you can get alot better noise reduction for 100$(US) for in ear that have a compressor built in for the reduction but bring everything else up to a set level automatically.

    I go to really loud concerts 3-4 times a month and generally try to buy earplugs with that have even attention across all frequencies. Eargasm earplugs do that perfectly, but if you drop and lose one of them because you're trying to hear your friend, you may just decide to buy another pair of $30 ear plugs the next week to get that same quality. These address that specific problem. I don't have to take them out and I can turn them down to specific settings at concerts. That variability is also really attractive since you might walk to particularly loud or fairly sort areas in a single concert. I bought a pair and I think it was $60 as an early bird purchase. They still haven't arrived though, haha.

    For everyone saying this is stupid, or that it's ironic because there are people who need hearing aids: I have misophonia, I have fight or flight reactions to repetitive noise, chewing/eating noise, loud noise, nasal noise... the list goes on. It makes being social VERY DIFFICULT. If you're near civilization, you are being bombarded by noise pollution 100% of the time. Sometimes I just need to cut out higher decibels, but still need to hear what people are saying, sometimes everyone gets loud and I need most of the sound cut out. I can tell you that yes, normal sound canceling ear plugs also work to block most sound, but try to imagine talking to someone, and they suddenly put in earplugs while you're talking to them. It's really embarrassing, especially when they are unaware of the condition, and even when they are aware, people end up feeling bad. This is a discreet way for me to control the audio stimulus around me, with out it being all or nothing, without it being headphones (because listening to something on headphones IS a way of coping, but it's not my first choice, usually I'm craving silence, not louder sound). It is pricy, but I have yet to find anything similar that I can keep in and not have to use power for it. I hope this gives perspective into why it is a popular item, this is something new and is fulfilling a need for quality of life previously unmet.

    But on the other side this doesn't use battery and you can wear it 8h a day no problem.

    • @SquarelyGames
      @SquarelyGames 6 лет назад +14

      My opinion is this: You guys have no idea what these earphones are for. Let say you are at a concert, you have them on max. Then you walk away and start talking to someone. Instead of taking the earplugs out and expose yourself to the full force of the audio which is incredibly dangerous since your ears wont be prepared for the blast, you simply raise the volume a little bit without damaging your ears.
      For me with very sensitive ears, this device will be a lifechanger. If I am out in traffic with lots of car noises, instead of taking a long time to put in better earplugs, all I need is to turn a dial.
      To be fair, doesn't really seem like they understood it fully from the video either. You can't compare these to 2dollar earphones. That's like comparing a standard phone to a smartphone. The sound on these will be incredible and lifelike wile most normal headphones muddles the sound and creates a very strange sound curve.
      I haven't received mine yet, I truly hope they work as intented.
