Good morning from Moscow, Russia. It's 6:00 in the morning, and I was about to go to bed when I came across your video and realized I couldn't miss it. Dwayne, it's been a tough year. I divorced my wife because of her infidelity, almost killed myself, and went through a depressive episode, but you helped me. Your videos with the measured pace of narration, calm voice, metaphors about horses and nature, those stunning views in the background, a cigar in your fingers and a Midwestern American "cowboy" accent were like an asmr for me. In moments of anxiety or restlessness, I would often just turn on random videos from your channel and find peace in them.
Thanks to you, I survived the hardest episode of my 22 years of life and realized that the last two months of 2023 were the best, as I finally started breathing fully again. Thank you. I respect you and appreciate what you are doing for the younger generation.

One of my favorite parts from “father forgets”: “It was not that I did not love you: it was that I expected too much of you. I was measuring you by the yardstick of my own years. There is so much that was good, fine and true in your character. The little heart of yours was as big as the dawn itself over the hills”.

You’ve placed a huge smile on my face Dewayne! About 52 years ago I told a young man that ‘my dad can beat up your dad’; and of course he wasn’t having it; so we rolled in the grass trading punches until we were both done from exhaustion; and we’ve been the best of friends for 55 years now. Your wisdom and integrity toward younger generations is awesome sir! Thank you.

You brought back bittersweet memories. My best friends father passed when we were 6 years old. His family lived next door. His mother didn't remarry until years later. My father stepped in to fill that void for him and always included him in everything we did and so taught him the same lessons as he did me. He was disciplined the same as me too! I always thought of him as my brother. Later as an adult, I moved away for my career. My father helped him get a job where he worked, and my friend retired after 35 years. He always cared for my father when I couldn't. I was blessed with a loving, giving father and I never minded sharing his attention. We are still best friends and I finally moved back to our small town. Yes, you can keep a decades old friendship. We are the older generation now. Dwayne always sounds a lot like my father. Children don't learn just by what they hear but by what they see. Hope your friendship lasts many, many more years.

The only thing I feel bad about is now, at 58, with all my kids gone and raising kids of their own, I have no chance to go back and undo all the mistakes I made, both with my kids, and with horses. And I would sure give anything to go back.

Hi Dewayne, my 6 year old daughter absolutely loves this educational show about animals. She's learned all these animal facts and it has really spurned an interest in zoology at a young age. My wife and I are of the classical wisdom of minimizing screen time, but these educational shows blur that rule a little for us. We aren't sure how much is too much, but we find ourselves letting her watch a fair bit of it. But I do agree with the essence of your first point.

my parents also have horses and I also have stories about them.
up until around 10 years ago, we had a horse, that was the leader our horses, she was very kind and super aware of other creatures. there was this instance, when I was around 3 years old, when she accidentally stepped on my foot, but as soon as she felt, that she was on my foot, she lifted her hoof. her death was the first encounter of death, that I can remember, from the moment on, when her light in her eyes dissapeared, it started raining. a lot.
we still have her daughters, one trying to fill the gap her mother left as best as she could, while she cant fill it completely, she is doing a great job at it. the other is the polar opposite of her mother, she kicks, she bites and she does that thing, that involves her pushing people away with her head, she is however the physically biggest horse we have, but who do the rest follow more closely? the calm daughter. whenever there is a part of the fence, that broke, we only have to get the calm daughter to follow us back, the rest follows her, sometimes the violent one has to be picked up individually, but most of the time they are fine. the violent one should not be blamed as much though, she often has painfull hoof-diseases, infections, cavities etc. and her hooves have to be grinded down quite often.
we have another horse, that is a totally different breed than the rest, they are often anti-social to her, but she doesnt exactly help herself either. whenever we have a foal, she would be agressive to them often even attacking them, but everyone else is not having it, they often protect the foal and even attack her back. there are often attempts to get her into the family as well, but she is not having it. I guess racism is not just a human problem.

Clear boundaries, teach them right from wrong with a calm but firm manner is all you need. To Dewayne and anyone reading, have a great new year!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Dewayne! You're spot on.
The modern education system was designed not to educate, but to instill cooperative behavior, based on the design of the Prussian military about 2 centuries ago. None of us, horse or human, were evolutionarily adapted to sit and do the same, rote tasks for an entire day. We adult humans can adapt *enough* to make it work when necessary or when complacent enough, but children haven't developed the resignation or discipline (depending on circumstance and perspective) to do that for an entire day. I say this as an ADHD father who has two ADHD kids (and a third without)--the ones with ADHD are clearly less well adapted to sitting around in school all day.

Dewayne, this is exactly what I needed to hear today. My wife and I have 4 children from 4 years old to 4 weeks old. A C section was necessary for our newest arrival, and I suddenly found myself trying to be Dad, Mom, and housekeeper for the next 3 weeks. Last week, my wife fell and broke her ankle. She and the kids have been living with my parents 2 hours away, while Im trucking cattle over the road. I came home this weekend to find the kids running all over my wife and parents. I wish I could park the truck for a few weeks to lay down the law and bring boundaries back, but Ive already had a few weeks off, Im thousands of dollars in debt, year end renewal bills are rolling in daily for the business, and Im hardly keeping stuff paid as it is. I dont know what to do right now, Im between a rock and a hard place. Prayers and additional advice would be greatly appreciated. You know who I am, Im sure... I dont want to abuse the privilege of having your number...Keep the parenting and fatherhood videos coming.

We homeschool so that they can actually learn important things. And I had to let the kids get a little bored before it ignited their creativity. I offered woodworking, leatherworking, knitting, papermaking, anything was there at their fingertips, and when they got bored, they went looking for something, and they’ve made shawls, benches, amazing food, they’ve fixed things that they saw were broken, they started harvesting things to make as collecting seeds, and seeing what would grow. By the way, I really miss having horses. 😭 Also, chickens are a great distraction to take care of. Those little beasts will give you a run for your money, and also teach you how to protect them from skunks, snakes, and raccoons.

As a girl growing up with ADHD boredom was really bad for me. Yes I had K.I.D.D as well but at the same time even doing stuff my brain just wouldn't focus on the task at hand and there's teaching and help for that but when I was done and everything else being bored would get me wandering and changing and getting into trouble more than my siblings who had KIDD with no ADHD.
Fortunately, my mom was a great supporter of mine and a great supporter of 'arts, crafts and games' especially ones that took us outside. My room growing up was often filled with random 'at the moment' hobbies I'd have picked up an interest in, and even to this day I still continue some of them like knitting and gardening and I had two bookshelves full of just books. Not always kids literature but just things i liked to read and I'd read them all.

I didn't really have my parents be present with me growing up, my dad was a trucker who would be gone for a week to three weeks at a time and only come back for 1 to 2 days on the weekends and my mom was not really present because my oldest sister passed away when I was four and she never seeked out help to deal with that grief, she still comes to tears when my sisters name gets brought up 21 years later(it still hurts to see it affect her like that), so all I knew growing up was trying to find somebody to fill that void I've always had and trying to not be a bad father to my kid is probably one of the heaviest fears I have right now. Your video here, among others, has helped alleviate that fear

You saved the best for the last video of the year, my friend. Truer words were never spoken. I know almost nothing about horses save what I have learned from you. The similarities between children and horses had never occurred to me, so I learned something on that side of things. And I agreed with every single word you said about raising and protecting kids, something I do know a bit about. This is yet another one of your videos that needs to be seen by the world and especially by this country. Happy New Year to you and Mama. I look forward to seeing many new videos from both of you in 2024.

Well well well I needed to hear that Dwayne.
I was brought up by Yeller. So I am a Yeller, I have calmed down a decent bit from Bad things coming of it and age.
Boy see. looking in your face and hearing something to that nature that is life changing.
Man I wish I had heard it put that way at 18!
    Thank you Dwayne mark 59

I found you recently in the last month or so. I have always loved horses and your wisdom is just so priceless. Wish I could have come next year for a class. I haven't been on a horse in almost 30 years. I really hope you all do classes in 2025 but I understand if you don't with your book release. Thank you for the amazing words of wisdom. Hope you and the family have a Happy New Year and congrats on the new grandkid on the way!

Man oh man do i miss homeschooling. My kiddo is "diagnosed" with ADHD and the school plays it like no other.
I started therapy which is helping a lot with my hot-headedness. I'm practicing a technique in which I count before I react.
Sometimes I don't realize that my kid is just bored. I like the analogy that he needs to figure out how to track instead of looking. This will be my golden nugget from your wise video 🌟 Thank you and happy new year to you and your family!🎉

Dwayne, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos recently and they have helped me immensely. I’ve always had a constant struggle being content with life. I’m 17 and I’m afraid of what is to come with the future, I don’t have anything figured out, and on top of that, This girl has popped into my life and we have been dating for a month now, she is different from anyone else, she gets me like no one else. And as happy as I am with her, it is hard for me to not think about her past with other guys, she used to be a very bad person but turned her life to God and is such a good person now. Do you have any guidance as to how I should go about this battle brewing in my head

Thank you sir, my best wishes to you and yours and of course all the fine people in your audience.

Thank you, I agree about boundaries, when my five year old crosses the boundaries I have a little time out chair. I warn first but if he can’t stop he goes to time out for three minutes or so, then after we talk about why it happened and how it can not happen next time and give lots of hugs. I really don’t have to yell and it works he does not want to go to time out!
