    I have sewn for 50 years and never hemmed jeans this way! My brother needed a pair done so I tried this ( after buying a pair at Good Will and doing it on them first) this is so easy and looks much better! Thank you! Will be awaiting your new videos and binge watching backwards this weekend!!

    I just found you! So glad to view and learn your ideas. I am hemming a pair of jeans right now and wondered what side of the pants ( inside or outside) does the bobbin thread show up... Your video answered my query! I am short and have to hem most pants. I will be watching often. Thank you!

      Whatever side is touching the machine will be the side that has the bottom thread. Whatever side you're looking at when you're sewing will have the thread from the spool.

    I have a Viking 936 serger and a brother sewing machine. My threads kept breaking on the serger so... I gave up because of the high learning curve and because of lack of free time to figure it out. It cost a ton of money and it is almost still brand new despite it being almost 8 years old. It seems easier to someday buy an easier machine. I bet, through , that they all have a learning curve. However, I do love my brother sewing machine.

    Thanks for the tutorial. I have a domestic machine with a detachable arm so I think this would be easier to do this method.
    Do you recommend pressing the hem before sewing for do you suggest against that?

    • @TailorItYourself
      @TailorItYourself  4 месяца назад +1

      You certainly can if you think you can press it along the fold lines with accuracy. Once you press it, the lines will disappear if you're using wax tailors chalk.

    Danni, just wanted to say it is lovely watchign your tailoring videos, , woudl it be better to trun the jeans inside out to amrk the material , over lock the hems to what length you want, then you can still turn the hem twice with ejans on right side and the hem on the up side so you cna see the seam your stitching. jsut ehlpign to amke it easlier

      I've sewn through my finger only twice. Once was just through the skin, once actually went through my finger. With all my hours of sewing it's a very low risk, but sometimes I need to get my fingers right up in there. But yes, it can be scary at times!

    Danni, thank you for this tutorial. Is there a way, after hemming using this method which I prefer, to make them look like ready to wear along the hem line? I don't prefer using the hemming method where the original hem is kept. I have made my own jeans before and, of course, wouldn't have the ready to wear hem to use so i would like to know if it is possible to get the same look along the hemline.

    • @TailorItYourself
      @TailorItYourself  3 года назад

      I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Are you asking if it's possible to get a worn looking hem without using the original hem? If that's what you're asking, I'm not sure. I suppose you could try and distress a "new" hem with chemicals or sandpaper to get wear lines, but you would have to proceed with caution.

    What size thread do you use on your machine for sewing denim jeans?

    • @TailorItYourself
      @TailorItYourself  Год назад +1

      You can use heavy jean thread, or combine two regular weight threads. I discuss this in the video.

    Pressing the fold lines before sewing would be a lot faster 😉

    • @TailorItYourself
      @TailorItYourself  2 года назад +3

      You could, but then your chalk lines would disappear and the length may not be as accurate.

      @@TailorItYourself thank you for responding !🙂the video was a many-steps type of bag? pink color, with floral fabric pocket that had a flap, you used a tool to add snap. l didn’t see the beginning so l’m not sure what the finished item would be. could l recommend you post a small picture of the finished item as you are constructing it. thank you again!☺️

      I still can't make sense of what you're referring to. None of my videos feature work on a bag. And this specific video is about a hem. I have a separate video for snaps.

    • @lyzzaard3547
      @lyzzaard3547 2 года назад

      @@TailorItYourself the video which l am referring to followed the jean hemming video. l leaned a lot about being precise in measuring. excellent instruction! the ‘ pink ‘ project had two compartments. you sewed squares with pockets, most were of a neutral pink small geometric fabric pattern,
      (layer of foam to stabilize it?) with an added pocket of a floral material, (that little pocket had a flap also the snap)
      l thought you had called it a bag. l was intrigued to see how it could be a bag. Apologies l’m not describing it well enough. thank you for responding 🙂

      It's likely the video recommended after mine is made by someone else. The algorithm will switch between channels if you continue watching what it recommends.
