Elsa has her crafting and Barron has his hunting. Each person needs to express themselves in their own way. If there's room for hunting gear, there's room for crafting supplies. 😀
Exactly!
I literally went to the comments to say the same thing. Have as many crafting things you want Elsa! That is your gift to the world! Youre amazing at what you do! But I also know we dont know what goes on behind the scenes, and this may have been a joke between you both! We know yall are both very concious of what you bring into your space. But dont let that hender you from being creative!
@Rocking Red Poppy Precisely!!
Love you 3! Hey, if you use everything you have, then it’s not too much. Don’t let those sour pusses daunt your accumulation of necessary and just plain FUN items. Enjoy your lives!!!!! Tools are necessary, fun is necessary. I support your life expansion. 💚
@Robin Mink Bc it’s also fun for us watching their interactions & adventures. But mostly bc these things bring them much needed joy which I truly believe echoes out into the world. Just think of Elsa’s smile; it always warms my soul & makes me smile ear-to-ear. I love these podcasts (& of course the main vlogs).
I'd love to get a podcast/video about your diets! You said you'd figured out a way to eat in a way that suited the scamp lifestyle, I'm really curious about what that entails. Who's with me?!
YES!!! I remember Elsa mentioning that she had gut issues for a long time and I would love to hear about her journey. It would be interesting to hear about how they stock the trailer with food for the seasons as well.
A food podcast would be fun.
As one who has been unsuccessful with relationships, I would like a discussion on how you guys take care of yours. I really enjoy watching you guys interact with each other. That would be a fantastic program! Please keep on what you are doing .... You are obviously evolving but somehow the "majic" of you two is following along with your changes. So .... how do you do it? Thank you!
OMG you guys are fricken hilarious😂 Great podcast!! Keep em cominnnn
I was joining your conversation ( in my head) @ about 13:00.. Lol I was screaming.." Minimalism isn't as much about having less as it is about efficiency ..having what you have do more...give more ( quality of life)).. Love you guys...🤗
I've lived for the last thirty years in a one bedroom apartment. Bedroom, kitchen, bathroom with twelve foot ceilings. You learn to only accumulate what is absolutely essential and become a very good organizer.
Being a crafty, creative person as well I totally understand the drive in wanting to learn multiple crafts cause it’s all super fascinating and really gets those creative juices flowing when you try something new. My bf says I’m trying to do too many things but it’s really hard to stop that creative flow and if you aren’t getting “messy” are you really having fun!? 😂
Goodmorning, miss you both!!! Elsa you need your own pod. That way you won't have to worry about keeping everything 💯 love you
You go girl...crafting is great for the soul!! Create and be happy!!
There is a world of difference between having an excess of things that you use and an excess of unnecessary clutter that you don't touch for months... You guys are fine!! 🤣✌️
Keeping our material goods to a minimum is difficult! I live in a van but my son just built me a 10/20’ shed with a shower, toilet and sink, for my sewing room. I looked at all the space and thought of all the things I could buy for it and had to really hold back on my purchases. I don’t want the extra stuff and know that so had this great internal battle over want vs. need! I work at REI which compounds everything! So, just give thought to each thing you bring in and if you have something you don’t need share it with someone. Thank-you for sharing.
How in the world do you work at REI?! I would buy everything hahaha
i started minimalism 6 years ago and now im, what you consider, extreme minimalist. i dont count my items but all my belongings fit into one 40l backpack. main point is not to own anything or purchase anything, but have a value in each and every item and thing you own. and this freedom to travel with only one bag... im so happy 😀😊
Had me laughing. I really enjoy the realness of this conversation. You demonstrate well how to communicate touchy partner subjects. You laugh. It's refreshing. Keep the backpacks. They are better than bins in my opinion. Peace and love!
All of us Crafters know exactly where you are at Elsa…and I have often thought you are so in control with what you are creating. Been married 40 years and have a very minimalist studio area for crafts and such and my hubby still teases me…
Yup!
I just love listening to you both.
I loved this podcast, you are in my old stomping ground. I truly enjoy the banter between you two. I so relate to Elsa. I have a craft room that turned into a crap room.
LOL!! Ditto! And, the "rec" room has morphed into the "wrecked" room. I just love MAKING things, and hope I never lose the desire of creativity, and watching it evolve over the years. 😊
For a pretty long podcast, you did a great job keeping it interesting. Await the next podcast!
I LOVE your mutual communication. You are both very in tune to one another and neither monopolizes the conversation. That is rare with RUclipsr couples. Bravo!
I loved this episode. You guys crack me up. It was definitely a fun one. Also, thank you Elsa…I am now the proud owner of a brand new Swiss Army Knife for my keychain. I don’t even have a keychain 😂😂😂
.......just wait until you have kids !! You collect soooooo much stuff then . I love you two xx
Your relationship makes me smile. Loving these podcasts. What is the biggest expense living as you do?
Barron, Barron, Barron - A woman needs "A Room Of Her Own". 😉
Virgina woof essay 'a Room if one's own' is quite paramount.
Lots of room! Especially if she is into silversmithing. You can never have enough hammers. And a locking, metal tool chest on wheels. Just sayin.
Love your podcast and utube channel! Whether you are minimalists or slightly maximumists, it does not matter. Your life to live the way you choose, so you do you and I for one, will keep enjoying your weekly updates and discussion!
Thank you for mentioning the worn & wear site! Such a great idea!
WHERE IS ELSA’S TOP FROM?! It’s AMAZINGGGG! You guys are so inspiring to me and my husband we wait every week (now twice a week 😜) for him to get home from work to watch your new video/podcasts together over dinner
AGREE! Love the top! Need deets!!!
I could listen to you two talk for a lot longer. I am also a HUGE FAN OF CRAFTING. It's amazing. You two inspire me so much. Thank you ❤️
I’m a hobby ho and proud of it!! Elsa needs a crafting/she shed!!!! I expect this to happen asap for my artsy girl.
Just started the video but want to say right off the bat that I'm so so SO enjoying these podcasts
Also, what are the dischord deets?
I am guessing the ones calling you maximists now do not live like we do. I too live in a camper (26ft) no running water and have very little material things. There is nothing wrong with getting things you want or need. You are bettering your life. Go for it!
No stress you only live once!! Collect, amass, enjoy and do show and tell THEN before 60 start downsizing!!! Duh!!! Hey I am a crafter build a craft shack now!!!👍👍😃😃
I love how the three of you have evolved. Having a place for stuff is a good thing! 💐💐💐
Y’all keep me so centered. I am in awe of people like Elsa who are so creative and artistic and I’m so pumped for Barron’s book to come out. I can’t tell you how many times I needed gear and referenced an old podcast or video of y’all’s before making the purchase. Please don’t ever stop making these videos. They mean so much to so many of us. Much love
I'm a trucker and I could listen all day. The longer the better. I love the product reviews, especially in bugout stuff. Thanks yall
Enjoying the podcasts. The idea that a couple living in a 10 foot tin can could be maximalists is pretty hilarious. You handled this topic with grace and humor. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
Hi from Canada... I'm sort of lost about this discussion ...somebody is commenting you are acquiring to many items to be able to say you live minimalist.... That's ridiculous....I've watched you for years loving your content and I've never questioned why you have " stuff"..t has always been impressive on how well you eat and work with so little ... You did it and did it well ..but now you have land..your lives are evolving..hobbies change and you should have what ever you enjoy ..I've loved the boarding ...I'm a skier.. That's been beautiful watching and you need gear for that...that fact that you have researched and studied the use of all your backpacks again is impressive..you always have used good quality items and now is your time...a young healthy strong couple you've used this platform to share your experiences that hopefully will help you continue to grow or change...so you buy use play with whatever you want , this chanel is yours and do whatever you want and thank you for sharing this adventure with us..
I’m so glad you continue to talk about wool. I am a big fan. I knit my own socks. If you’d like a knitting class on making your own wool socks- I’d be happy to teach you (I live in northern Colorado) it will change your life (and it is a small portable craft 🥰)
Admittantly it happened a while back .... but I had some money and wanted to invest in Wool Futures ..... everyone laughed at me as it was the beginning age of pile. Still think it would be a good investment. I don't think wool will ever go away!
@@tommatheson5855 actually- wool is on the rise. There are some amazing companies out there doing amazing things. I probably pay an average of $30/skein for my sock yarn. Then I spend days knitting- and I’m not alone. Millions of people are hand knitting, and even more are buying wool products even for warmer weather. Check out #100daydresschallenge by Wool&. People are realizing wool has cooling features, anti microbial, sustainable and long lasting. It really is a miraculous product
You guys do you..I'm glad you've got some comfort items and things to make your life better.. love ya guys hello from Wisconsin!
Maximalists??? You two??? Bahahahaha!!!! (Btw: an artist pod is DEFINITELY necessary - personal space can go a long way in happy relationship. 😉)
Don’t let any silly turds on the internet make y’all feel anything less than grateful, happy & proud for everything you choosE keep in your world for necessity , joy or otherwise! Adventure couple gets kayaks = building a foundation for joyful lives.. not “wow their maximalist” 🤣🤣 sending love 💕
I live in a 27 foot camper and I have over 30 pairs of shoes you guys are definitely minimalist stop listening to other people that are saying you guys are maximalist because you’re not
Glad she is doing this. I’m in the heart of Spring cleaning…
Fjallraven sounds like a viking rock band 😆 and Melanzana means eggplant (aubergine) in italian. I've been replacing my physical books with ebooks. I'm loving this conversation. Learning and being reminded.
Elsa & Barron the Podcast is missing the coffee. Lol
I totally have enjoyed watching and learning off grid life from two Awesome folk.
Really love your podcasts so much! Fills my heart. Gives me the same feeling and energy as sitting next to a cozy fireplace on a cold day or a soothing cool waterfall on a warm day.
I admit having a thought that you really don't live a minimalist lifestyle simply by having smaller versions of everything - I'm 58, when I was your age everything needed was packed in a bag with a rolled up blanket between the handles. I lived a nomad lifestyle picking up jobs from one town to another. In your videos I see you cooking, making coffee, and all the tech gear - along with your recreation requirements, this is hardly minimal definitively. Maybe some of it is a generational thing, tech was fairly non existent in the eighties.... I think to a picture I once saw of Gandhi's possessions at the time of his death, there was a rice bowl, his glasses, footwear and a robe. None of us will be that kind of minimal !!! I started thinking that a minimalist lifestyle will have to be defined with some relativity ... One thing for sure, "stuff" accumulates quickly ! I'm grateful for your positive outlook on everything and willingness to share . It will be interesting to see how you grow , much love !
Barron is soooo cute when he is teasing Elsa…he is just so full of mirth
Elsa…..you mentioned you took pictures of a bunch of your soccer t-shirts at one time. It reminded me what my wife did for her son several years ago. Unfortunately he passed away but her idea on what to do with all is old shirts was so cool. She took them to a lady who cut the front out of each shirt and made a quilt out of them. Each square of the quilt was the front of one of his t-shirt. She gave it to him for a Christmas gift. Anyway, when said that about your shirts came into my mind. I really enjoy both of you and your videos. Don from Toledo, Ohio.
I am 100% that crafting person. At the moment I am takimg over the lounge with a weaving project. Lucky for me my husband is into modelling so we both make crafting messes 🤣
I’m glad you have the podcast on RUclips. This is where I spend a lot of time.
I am really enjoying your new podcast shed! Mostly I am loving you two. It is fun to watch your interaction with one another.
Love your bantering ~ how about getting two more containers and attach them to the back of this office, decorate each side as each chooses and the doors to each space is as simple as opening a door. Keeping this space together would be nice 😎😇🕊✨
Actually, another one attached to the back of the others~ space for eating/ other videos/studio/ dog space/ guest space, etc… and each facing in the four directions.
Yeah, that's a great idea too!
Thank you for this topic… the best point I took away, decluttering my Social Medias. I never made the connection of the pages I follow and the negative energies they bring because I feel a slight resentment I’m not being involved with those passions anymore. Thank you for my aha moment!
Awesome podcast Elsa & Barron! I get the craft supply thing. And the yarn🙈😂! Looking forward to the next podcast. Stay awesome!!
Tools are needed for self sufficiency. I would challenge anyone to reduce down to the place the two of you normally live and then question again their own life styles. Proud of both of you.
Both have qualities can use and redo in many ways, when love comes in handy its just being patient .of course you try save time and money if you able to make and do to bring the best you can enjoy.more now can't waste anything! times are tough.so organize everything write it down rather have what you need then going over board. Benefits is thinking ahead to be safe and not suffering through I should save that! Bless you both continue your journey with love and peace♡ hi paw to kamp♡ I bet he has share of things... all love!
This was an amazing video. So much can be learned and explained at the same time. It puts a whole new way of looking at minimalism out there. And so many need help with that. Thank you so much. I will be watching this again and again.
Audio books are wonderful for walking, working in the yard, etc. Great for multitasking.
Minimalism is in my opinion, a general thought process that means so many things to so many people. At it's root, it means what do you value and what brings value to you in life. If the number of things you own bring value to you, then you do you. Let people enjoy what minimalism brings to them. Cheers to your path!!
Fellow KC'ers here....we've always enjoyed watching you guys as your life has evolved. Welcome to the "stuff phase"...it may or may not get better ;) Embrace the items if they provide a purpose. We feel you guys use what you have and its enjoyable to watch you in your "doings"....Revel On.
Backpacks are the best, don't let minimalism bring you down!! 🤣
This turned into a couples therapy LOL jk love you guys!! 🤣😂
Good point around 35:00 Elsa & Barron about bringing things into your home/environment. Many of us have heard of feng-shui, but I also like a variation of that called wabi-sabi where the basic principle is that for every thing you bring into your home, you must release two or three items (donate, give away to someone in need etc), basically lower your consumerism altogether. Remember if it doesn’t bring you joy or if it isn’t useful or beautiful, there is really no need for it. This principle has helped me a lot to manage my space.
Yes please, do a “what’s in our bags and vehicle” video!!! I too love those kinds of videos!
I'm so happy the podcast is back regularly, especially with the amazing film studio!!!!!
I feel there are different levels of minimalism. Are you going to live out of a backpack? No, the princess needs his good food, treats, and gear! When you find things you haven't seen, used, or really even remember, that's when the question surfaces. I'm still working from the top down. You two are an inspiration, and the princess is a joy, lol. Love your story, keep expressing yourselves and trying new things. It's what you want, not what others want you to do.
I am 8 minutes in and cracking up. Love you guys! ...it seems that minimalism is more about keeping what you use and not keeping what you don't... don't worry about "sour face ann"s.
👍 YES!
I do not think you have a lot I think you need what you need to live. I love you pod cast
Thanks lovelies, great chat again, this is the fastest hour in the week, have a great weekend xxx
Thanks so much for sharing all of this information! I love watching you guys and learning even though I will never be in a position to do what you do. I live vicariously through you. 🤗
Love the episode. Minimalism is different for everyone. Minimalism is not living with 50 things or 100 things, or any certain number of things. Minimalism is living with only the things you NEED. That is going to be different for everyone.
I totally understand. I’m a crafter too.
People always need their own space. So important for happy relationships, which i am sure you know. Soooo Get another container i say.
You guys are great, really fun watching you interact with each other. Keep it up!
So enjoy listening to you two! ❤️❤️I'm laughing because my husband must have seven different packs (any outdoor gear is his weakness, but we do use it) and we have a cabinet full of different screws in the basement. 😁 Will you share house design?
Yarn is bulky, but not overwhelming if you only have what you need for the project at hand. And what can come of it! Amazing, beautiful, warm and practical items. I think you each have pastimes that you enjoy and can benefit the family. All should be given equal respect (and storage space).
Wonderful information! Whoever called you guys maximulist, might need a reality check. To be off the grid, let’s face it 😳, is to be free from the need of “others”. Of course, this will eventually take a true homestead. You two are a perfect example of slowly becoming one with your environment/nature. & Now that you’ve purchased land 🥳 you’re slowly creating an atmosphere that literally feeds your off grid needs. It’s so fun watching you and learning so much, especially for those of us with similar thoughts! Fkkk the labels! Either learn from someone’s path, or get off 😉 You compliment each other so well! Elsa, never stop being creative and crafting & Baron, never stop being a gear/tool junkie! Together your forever home is going to be amazing. LY2!!!! 💜🦋💜
Why does it matter what you are? Minimalist or maximalist are only words. Better to ask if you two and only you two are happy!!! I enjoy your videos so much!!
I think a good word for y’all is essentialists! Because you now have more room there is now more space for more essential items that you use all the time!
I downsized from a 6,000 sq ft house, filled with antique furniture and stuff handed down to me from grandparents and parents, to a 1,200 sq ft apartment. I now want to go tiny. The initial purge was done in less than 3 weeks as my house was sold. I gave to Goodwill and Salvation Army in excess of $50,000 worth of gorgeous antiques that none of my children wanted or were in a position to take and that I wasn't able to sell😫😫 I was the repository of the lives of my ancestors😍😫😵💫
YES, PLEASE on doing a video on what gear/organization you have in your car. It's an accomplishment to set up a good system.
Also, backpacks are EXCELLENT to organize like items. You'll be GRATEFUL, if you ever have to bug out (wildfire, etc) and can grab and go with your well-organized backpacks!
People think you should be minimal for EVER! ( No your fine.) I appreciate your journey and I hope you don't change your plans for the future for anyone.
Yes please to a video of your quality vehicle/ travel supplies and to your unpacking your backpacks for us. You guys are awesome!
How much of your gear did you actually purchase yourself vs. gear gifted to you? It's important to be real with numbers for your viewers. Would the average person be able to afford all the equipment, storage facilities, offices, camper, and the 100K worth of land? Maybe provide figures so that a person (without company connections) could see how much they need to earn/save to create a similar lifestyle. ~Kay B.
Sliding into “influencer” lifestyle.
We could never accept gear from sponsors until we bought land because we didn’t have any room for it. We got lights from BioLite in the very beginning for creating a free video for them and traded lots of promo for a Cubic mini wood stove. We had the kayaks for 6-8 months before having land. No companies ever paid us. - also, I’m happy to “slide into the influencer lifestyle” if it helps us have gear to use and share/recommend with friends so we can all spend more time outside and not on our cell phones.
Didn't y'all get those bikes free?
I just tidied my craft table! I've got 1 full square cm of work space now! Loads of room!
When I moved from a tiny apartment to a house I had a bit of anxiety about how much more stuff I acquired within a very short time period. I thought "I didn't need all of these things a few months ago in my apartment, why do I think that I need them now?". But the thing is, I use all of it. And I am able to do more fun, useful and sustainable stuff because of it. So my way of looking at it is, if I actually use it on a regular basis, then it's a good thing I have it. I wouldn't necessarily say that minimalism is only defined by having extremely few things, I'd say it's more about only having things that you use. And that can look different for different people.
The whole first part was a couple who have been together forever and poke playfully at each other's short comings lol. My husband and I have that banter back and forth too.
Here's the thing, you guys are still minimalists compared to most people so maybe there are different levels of minimalist. I don't feel you are stepping away from the more simple life, you just have different needs.
hello you are super family, and great adventure with your camper, good day 💜💜💚💚😘😘
P.S. Really looking forward to that craft organization video and would love to see more crafting on the channel. Barron - you need to respect and value what Elsa's crafts bring to her life and your lives together.
Love watching your reality RUclips show. Both of you are so freaking funny. And Elsa, don't you know. Men love shoes no matter what condition they are in. It's like some sort of gross collection. Lol. Be safe and healthy. Tc
Quality stuff is so on point! I am always grappling with the not wanting too hold onto much stuff, but also we're broke. So sometimes minimalism doesn't make sense. I hold onto tools, hobby supplies, etc. because I can't just go replace it easily. Frugality and sustainable living sometimes makes one hold onto stuff but it's all about balance!!
It’s always wonderful and heartwarming to hear from REAL PEOPLE THAT GET IT. thank you
I think most of us start watching certain YT channels because the channel speaks to the things that we are personally interested in at that time. For me, I have followed a lot of channels that I no longer follow as they no longer produce content that I am interested in, either because they changed, or what I am interested in has changed. I want to constantly grow and change, and it is not surprising to me when channels I follow do the same. There are only a few channels that I follow because I also feel connected to the people and truly care how they are doing life, like you, Elsa and Barron. When I see people lashing out to YTers because their content changes, I feel like those people struggle to grow and change in their own life. And it is YOUR channel and YOUR life. Cliche but yeah...... You do you. Haters will eventually move on.
Guys your great people with kind hearts, so whatever label they give u; BE TOTALLY UNAPOLOGETICALLY YOUR WONDERFUL SELVES!!!
I am loving this video!
Keep the crafting going!! I'm always in awe of your multiple artistic talents. It's amazing to see someone become so skilled at such a variety of artistic pursuits. You are a talented renaissance soul!
This was such a beneficial, useful podcast……you guys always amaze me
Art world vs outdoor recreation . I agree, no justifying my needs in both these areas ❤️
Really enjoyed this episode. You fully addressed the problem with arbitrary labels: minimalism and maximalism. Also really enjoyed hearing Elsa inviting comments on the episode; hopefully they are more enjoyable for you than you have expressed finding them in the past. It really invites a sense of community. Thank you :)
Hi elsa and Barron! Your lifestyle is full of surprises 👍you are both adventurer! I love it and your dog is cute and adorable ❤️
If theres anything Ive learned about minimalism thats always rang true to me...its how YOU define it, not anyone else. Comparing myself to you guys as a couple, I'm somewhat of a maximalist. (Though I am downsizing!) Whereas my boyfriend is a minimilast because of his life circumstances, hes always had to go without, so hes sadly been used to being a "minimalist" though not by choice. But it makes me happy to help him and see him buy himself better quality things over the last two years.
