Today I’m doing my first client and I’ve already spent quite a lot on products. This was sooooo helpful, this made me realized I’m actually ready product wise and I don’t have to keep buying more. Now it’s time to build my clientele and start making that money lol
Great advise... I’m 58 yrs old just getting into the nail industry. Thought I had to have everything at the nail supply store. Thanks so much for your advice. It put me at ease. You guys are the best
Congratulations to you! I’m 47 hrs old and have been a little anxious about starting in the industry, but I am super excited to begin a new career and journey. Good luck on your new journey!!
I know what to setup for my station but for the love I have for you guys I have just spent 19 mins watching your talk. I've been thinking abt it let me just say it. Tracey is a humble woman... Happy women's day to all women here.
I’ve been doing nails for 22 years and it’s so true about it never being the “right red”. Clients always ask for a “true red” and I always say “I have plenty to choose from, and everybody has their own definition of -true red”.
I’m doing my certification in March and already have about 70 gel polishes, about 15 acrylic powders of glitters and effects, my core powders and every dang glitter, decals, stones, striping tape, foils and charms you could want 🤣 I can’t wait to be certified 🎉
So true about Too many choices....clients will get overwhelmed.... been there done that. And they will take forever to choose..I have a ton of options but I ask what they want and give 2 or 3 options for the client!
Another option to not have to have too many different colors of polish is the fact that you can mix colors to get a "perfect" shade for someone who just has to have a color you do not have on hand... You can make any color with just 5 basic colors (red, yellow, blue, black, white) and a color wheel... make any color a bit lighter with some white. darker with some black...etc...
I'm hearing impaired and would LOVE it if you guys could include subtitles. It would really help me out as a newbie and soon to be qualified nail tech. 😍💖💖💖
These are such great tips...takes off so much pressure knowing what you want to offer, and how to communicate that to the customer. Keep it simple, and organized is my new model
I am a beginner nail tech, and I really needed this video. I think you guys and gals at Young Nails are the best for putting these videos out on YOUTUBe. They are informative, helpful, and sometimes so funny. Thank you for all the info.
Good talk. Especially since the pandemic wear many have had to go mobile. It even opened my eyes as a person doing nails as a hobby for myself. It's so addictive to want to get every new kit or color when I only have 10 fingers 😩. But as a business awesome advice. Thank you.
Seriously, this was an eye opener! I appreciate your honesty on purchasing too much product and causing our clients anxiety not being able to make a decision!
Before renting a booth I had already so many tools and products that it was a overwhelming feeling when I started. The pain of it all was the ( time ) to label and swatching all the polishes including gel, prepping and counting what I had utilize to work with. It was well worth it in the end when getting paid but I totally agree with you guys. You can never have all colors! I have over 300 polishes/gels and clients would still think about what colors they wanted 😔
I moved my salon to a renovated area and this is a helpful reminder that I should get back to basics with my set up also. Less is more for what you have on display for the guests to choose from. Will definitely be implementing this!! Thank you!!
my nailtech always does gel extensions with gelpolish over top, she just used a clear gel. you hava no choice at all. she doesn't see the point in having base options either, she'll always put a gel colour over top. love that
The comment about too many options is so true esp with the nail art! I always get turned off at restaurants that have too many options because I feel like the quality wouldn't be there.
Why didnt i find this video before buying a whole nude collection. Having said that the nude range is a must for me as i plan to accessories with mini bottles of colours you buy in colour box sets amd stick to that. As i am just starting out i feel this is a great start for my press on nail biz HOWEVER when the box set starts to finish i will be taking on what Tracy said 24 "colours" to go along side my nude collection - 2 shades of each is FANTASTIC advice. If i didn't see this i would be planning to by every colour.
Thank you so much for this information. Well, on all of your videos actually. I have a very small corner available to me. It is overwhelming to have to buy so many products and not to mention expensive! It was holding me back from getting started to think I don’t have “enough” but actually I do.
Thank you for being real!! So many people told me if I didn’t have cat eye I would not make money...I was like I need an efile so I don’t have to worry about it dying on me *again* I couldn’t afford both...I’ve only been asked for cat eye twice...I did some cat eye like art ...customer was happy. I use my YN efile every day!! Love you guys!!!!
I have 2 pinks, 2 whites & a clear acrylic powders I only have 1 pink, 1 white & a clear in gel. I just do like a natural look nail or a french, then mainly use nail varnish for art or a normal painted nail. I also have many colours of glitter that I mix with gel or acrylic powder for that bit of sparkle. I have crystals, foils & other types of decoration for nails as well as stamping. Where I live in the UK, people want fairly simple nails. I experiment with mine to tempt people to be more adventurous. 😊💅💖😘
Hey! Can you guys do a video on accumulating product and where to start? I’m leaning on the side of being a booth renter but I’m so scared to purchase products because I’m new and afraid I will waste my money. Thank you YN!
Loved this topic for newbies. So true supplies and colors can get out of control. Agreed with all of traceys advice. With a desk too close your bumping knees and to far mine as well lay on the table lol. As for colors i keep some gel polishes out so there’s a display but i swatch them all out and hung on a jewelry tree. The T bar kind. This way there neat and portable.
Oh my gosh!!! Thank you for everything you just said. I'm a fairly new nail tech and I've felt so inadequate because of my color selection. Also, I had been making due with a regular table and just bought a second hand nail table that I plan to refinish. My shoulders are already thanking me for not having to teach so far across the top.
I like my table with minimum things like uv lamp, hand rest n bottle of rubbing alcohol. N just right of my side i have another table with drawers n i keep drill, prep stuff n brushes on top n everything else inside nice n tidy so whenever whatever i want i can grab it in no time. But these are so important knowledge you are sharing ❤️ thank you so much n Tracy i have learned many things from you n love your videos, love from India.. happy Women's Day 🥰
Need vs.Want.......having what you need to provide the service........wanting something doesn't necessarily mean someone else would want it. Good advice!
Another wonderful discussion, I am really confused as to where to spend my money setting up my business. I did get some nice pointers here, thank you. Maybe a good video on items necessary for a new shop show equipment etc. Just a thought......
😆 Too late for me! I am missing just 22 colors of caption color collection and 10 to complete maniQ. Hahahaaha. I need to go to rehab, I'm addicted to YN.
I am just now getting rid of polish that I’ve accumulated over years. I am down to 184 bottles. I like to display the polish for clients. Thanks for advice always helpful.
I’m only doing nails on myself right now so I can’t say how this would work for clients but I only have 6 colors of gel polish! I have the primary colors plus black, white, and pink, ❤️💛💙🖤💟💖, and from those I can mix any color I want!!! And if you’re wondering “why pink?” It’s because red + white doesn’t = BRIGHT pink, and red + blue doesn’t = BRIGHT purple...
Wow I'm a new nail tech an I have jus about 125 plus polishes. But they vary from gel polish, reg polish, high brand polish, an a section for kids, so section of press on or tiny cute bottles that also includes or invites the littles. As well have colored acrylics an gels.

Hey Trace, can you post an outline of the 24 colors you used when you first started out, so that us beginners can grasp an idea of what colors we should have available, that won’t overwhelm our clients? 🙏🏼❤️😇
I will now be on the lookout for a nice table to work at. I have a very long back for my height but I don't want to be leaning over a table all day long. Could you do a suggestion on the best nail tech chairs in different price ranges next? I am going from being a cosmetologist to being a nail tech due to back problems and breaking the same ankle twice. I just can't stand all day long like I used to. Also saving up for my first electric nail file so I will be prepared for school in a few months. Also it would be amazing if you carried some furniture in your line.
Are you guys ever planning on using Afterpay as a payment option? I’m starting out my nail journey, and find that nail supplies can be expensive. Having the option to pay within 4 payment installments seem so convenient.
Could you guys do a studio station set up. In depth how tall is the station how wide is the top what kind of chair should a tech use what kind of chair for clients, what kind of storage is best, help please.
Man did I need to see this video. I am the WORST with buying entire too many supplies. I’m just starting my nail journey so I don’t have a whole lot right now but when it came to any other craft endeavors. I would buy and buy and buy thinking I needed absolutely everything. And then I got so many supplies I got overwhelmed and immediately abandoned that craft. I don’t want that to happen with this.
Hello, I am a new subscriber to your channel and just wanted to say how I appreciate your Biz Talk videos! I personally like the fact how you guys keep the “nail world” realistic! All the new nail products, designs, etc. can be intimidating and make one start to doubt their work but listening to your videos reminds me of what’s realistic and to keep it simple. Thank you!
I've noticed that there's people out there correlating "certification" and "licensing" as the same thing too... "Certification" means you've been trained for a particular skill set...but it does not mean you can charge and work on client nails, hair, face etc without a license... A license" is where you've met the required hours of training on not only beauty applications with training on anatomy and identifying potential diseases and how to keep your area stateboard standard, then tested and passed...this is when you can work in salons and pick up clientele etc... I've had girls tell me they are certified and are accepting clients and they thought that's all they needed....and they don't have a State issued license to do so... I always warn them that if something were to happen they could be fined and if a client was upset about thier service they could potentially report you too...
Please guide about mobile nail techs. How should they work in changing conditions? How should they position themselves and their clients on dining table?
Booth renter here. Love the setup talk. I was hoping you’d touch on how to keep track of your income. And also do you have a money drawer? Currently, I’m using a good ole piece of paper and make $, ✅, or square symbol with the tip. Ex: 40 +5 $ // 40+5 ✅ etc. and then at the end of the week is booth rent and total. I feel it’s total old school. And keeping receipts.
I would love it if you guys could make a video on what nail techs should actually invest in. I've been trying to find some information on what i should be investing my money into as a nail tech student about to graduate in a couple of months. But i can't really find any videos on what a professional nail tech should invest in most of the videos i see are only for beginners.

Thank you guys, always informative an unbiased opinions. Could I ask for more advice for someone interested in getting into the nail profession, Do you think it is essential to know and or offer all nail enhancement styles acrylic/gel hard and soak off/ dip powder etc? Thank you in advance
Really useful advices you guys! You are the best! Speaking of nailfiles - can I buy your nailfile as a non-proffessional or do I have to wait to get my license first? Love all the way from Sweden! :)
There isn't a "standard height," rather it would be what is best for you. Everyone's body structure is different and you would want to find what is comfortable for you at your height and body structure.
Ok... I have over 200 colors of gel polishes and maybe 150 of regular polishes for pedicures and my clients have the hardest time picking out a color. I love having a variety but there are some clients that ALWAYS ASK ME IF I HAVE ANYTHING NEW! 🤪
I need rehab too...lol I am a nail polish addict! Every time I go shopping I can never come home without buying nail polish. I have nail polish that has never been used before. Wow, I'm sick with it, I need to stop.
Today I’m doing my first client and I’ve already spent quite a lot on products. This was sooooo helpful, this made me realized I’m actually ready product wise and I don’t have to keep buying more. Now it’s time to build my clientele and start making that money lol

Will consider it

What should be the standard height of nails tech's table ??
Please reply I really need to know
There isn't a "standard height," rather it would be what is best for you. Everyone's body structure is different and you would want to find what is comfortable for you at your height and body structure.
I really want your new dust filter, do I need that?
Thank u thank u thank u both!
Our pleasure!
Now that there are so many requirements by DBPR that you can't have people waiting or coming in early, how would you now recommend?
Please make a video about set up table 😉💋

Question so if I bought a table that is 47 1/4 inches wide, 15 3/4 inches deep, and stands 30 inches tall. That would be too high?I'm 5"4.
Ok... I have over 200 colors of gel polishes and maybe 150 of regular polishes for pedicures and my clients have the hardest time picking out a color. I love having a variety but there are some clients that ALWAYS ASK ME IF I HAVE ANYTHING NEW! 🤪
Where can I find this video of organizing acrylic and gel and getting ready for a client??
Can you give the exact measurements for a nail table please? I’m a beginner and i am thinking about making my own table
What is the correct height of the table. & chairs what type
I need rehab too...lol I am a nail polish addict! Every time I go shopping I can never come home without buying nail polish. I have nail polish that has never been used before. Wow, I'm sick with it, I need to stop.
