Carlsen's secret weapon in the English Opening | Carlsen vs Jakovenko | Commentary by Sagar

Magnus Carlsen oftens like to open with the English Opening (1.c4) as White. However, many times, his opponents just play the Symmetrical variation, which means that whatever moves he makes, they just make the same ones with the black pieces. Over here, Magnus has a secret weapon. Recently at the Global Chess League, he played it and beat Vishy Anand with White and back in 2019 at the World Blitz, he had used it against Dmitri Jakovenko. I made up a similar but simiple strategy putting C7 Bishop to B6. Waiting for an opening to attack G2 Bishop and H1 Rook. However it pales in comparison to his incredible genius.

The idea is good, but I think black would simply block with f5, and the white bishop would be staring at a pawn wall..
