  • You don't often see Magnus Carlsen being paired against a 2438 rated International Master in an open tournament. That is a gap of 400 rating points. But 2400+ rated Indian IMs are also quite strong. It was very interesting to see how this match-up would pan out. It was 18-year-old Srihari LR who had the black pieces against the World no.1 in the first round of the Qatar Masters Open 2023. Check out the game along with the commentary of IM Sagar Shah.

not ruthless he actually didnt played like a 2400 player , he played like a intermediate player here in this game see the game of magnus vs A L muthiah he was also in 2400s and played like his rating in qatar masters

      IMO
Usually when you are facing higher rated opponents, you have this unconscious tendency to play ‘safe and cautiously’ hence over calculating and ending up in a cramped up position.

Its true but you cant blame him you can see at the beginning 4:17 when Magnus played g3 and leave his pawn without any protection that he was completely confuse, you could see he couldnt understand why a Top chess player just leave his piece die with a "seems non sense move g3"

Since which minutes because after he played his knight it was game over for him and if he didnt play his knight the rook would take the knight position (like just tried to kill the pawn at f6) and it would also be game over for him, the King would be free to go away but wont have time for this after using these move to place your rook, he was game over since a really long moment

How dumb one must be to think Carlsen is scared lol. Or maybe you are new to chess. Magnus simply got tired of winning. He has been 2800 since the day he first achieved that rating at just 18. He has been world no 1 since the first time he achieved that rank at 19. Nobody shook his position in 12-13 years. His closest competitor Fabi at rank 2 is closer to rank 25 than to him. Like look at his result in last 8 tournaments, 6 gold 2 silvers. There is just no comparison mate.
