Nicely done. Great catches. You are correct, I do thank you. Marvelous catch of those NYSW locomotives. Excellent video.
Thanks, Man.. Here's to being in the right place at the right time!
Thank you for this video. It brought back many memories to an old man. Please allow me to reminisce a bit. The DL&W viaducts are 'classic'. Nicolson, Delaware River crossing, and the Vale valley, NJ. I got a kick out of seeing the Erie mile posts. I grew up, 500 feet from mile post18. River St. station(no longer exists), Erie Main line. North end of Paterson, NJ. Approx. 2 blocks from the Susquehanna. We kids called it the 'Squeeky Anna'. I remember the strings of Alco RS1s. And the new Budd RDCs. A couple of last thoughts of an almost 80 yr old. I remember the 1905 K1 Pacifics on Erie commuter trains. Rode behind them often to Jersey city. And, lastly, it seems funny now, late in my life, that the New York, Susquehanna and Western RR, has it long lasting second name, and I think all of the rest of the major RRs of the NE are gone. Along with their well know historic corporate names. Thank you all for putting up with an old man.
Yay!!!!!!! He is back!!! I am happy now I got my fix. It's been a long 4 days without my video fix!!!!!! Hope you had a great Turkey Day my friend.
Yes, I did!! Thank you, Jay.. It's good to be back!!
As always brilliant video crammed full of goodies for the overseas railfan. hope you had a great Thanksgiving and can't wait for the next episodes. Thank you. I agree completely with Jay Odonnell!
Thanks, Dude.. I did have a good T-Day and hope you did as well (if you celebrate that over there!).. There's plenty more train action in the days, months and years ahead so stay with me!
As a railway modeler from New Zealand I am loving you vids showing not just the trains but the area around them witch really helps get a feel for what I am modeling from half a world away thanks and keep up the great work.
Thanks Tony.. I'm glad that I'm able to help you understand the geography of our country a little better.
awesome catch of NS #7228 SD80MAC. sweet catches. awesome video. very cool. love the music.
Thanks, Phil.. I kinda' liked the music myself.. About 15% of my viewers are female so I tried to cater a little to them this time.
Trains21 your welcome. cool. i gotta try that my self to.
Thanks for this! I tried to railfan in Binghamton last year (November 2021), but I didn't see much movement. I did check out a few areas that were in your video (from afar, the former CP yard, now NS, along the river on the south side of Bingo & areas in "downtown" Bingo by the baseball park) and got to see parked auto racks up close for the first time (I didn't realize how tall they were). I think I need to drive up to Bingo from Scranton on the local routes next. Oh, and every time I see a CROWLEY container anywhere else in the world, I think of that old factory along Conklin Ave (timestamp 49:53 in this video)! Good times.
Thanks for watching Christopher. I'm glad that you were able to take something positive away from my videos.. BTW, I know what you mean.
good work again my friend
Thanks, Sean.
Отличный фильм у тебя получился. С огромным удовольствием смотрел. Класс.
Спасибо, Человек .. Рад, что вам понравилось.
Great views in Owego, near the old restaurant track side.
Thanks Ed
Close to home, been watching NYS&W from my truck for 15 years...now retired really trying learn more about that entire world & system..thank you this was excellent. I see those trains headed south usually around 3:00 PM in the cortland area...really want to catch some video of them along the river off route 17 south-east...:)
Cool!! Back in 2008 I caught a 3-Yellowjackets and a CSX unit tied down together in Cortland when I was delivering there one day!!
GREAT GREAT GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Tyler.. Glad you liked ;-)
You have some awesome videos,...keep'em coming! I enjoy them!
Thank you NS.. I'm glad that you enjoy them!
Interesting video , good music and visual varieties. I visited there Aug 2016. Didn’t see any movements but there’s a ton of historical infrastructure everywhere around those yards! Enjoyed this!
The train bridge you drove under on Rt 11 at minute 21:21 is the Martin’s Creek Viaduct.
Awesome video! Thank you for warning me to not waste my time or money on a trip to Bingo. I was there once, but with the NS Pittsburgh Line in my backyard, I don't want to go anywhere else. It seems like you not only like watching trains, but think the drive to where you are going is half the fun. That is how I feel.
Haha!! That's right!
Awhile back a 78 car train broke down on the hill out of Scranton. There was no power at Binghamton or Taylor to replace it with because a SD70 shut down and was having serious issues. NS made the call to DL stating not to shut down the alcos because if they can’t get that unit back up in 30 minutes they would back up past the interchange and put 3 alcos leading since they have NS radio and full tanks. They were gonna take the alcos to Binghamton and back
Interesting, I don't remember hearing about that.
Trains21 I was on train crew that day, that is why i heard it.
welcome back....as you can see you where missed very much!!!!....and congrats on reaching over 1000 subscribers.....I was waiting for those EMD's .....love the rumble that is felt as you are listening them powering up.....And Again another A-1 video
Thanks Ken.. It's good to be back!! And yes, there was a lot of love shown for me during my absence and believe me it was much appreciated.. I have a 1000 Sub Special video coming tomorrow and BTW.. You're right.. Those Susie Q EMDs were nothing short of SEISMIC!!!!
@10:03 is where you take a crop's too, that is one of my spot's i watch the trains go by.i think it's a good spot because of the other set to the side
No doubt.
This was great! I really miss Northeast PA and NY. Great, especially Scranton and Allentown. Oh and your choice of music is superb! Thanks for posting this.
No problem and thank you Zach.. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Your Back!!!!!!!!!!
I'm back!.. And better than ever!
Hey i shot ya an email earlier did you see that report on the 1989 and the 1070 on 36T lol it was false but it scared the crap out of the whole sunbury line railfan community!
Also congrats on 1014 subs!!!!!
;-)
Very Awesome video's! I watched all 7 Episode's in a row because I couldn't stop. I'm From the Williamsport /Muncy Area and I enjoy that you had info about a lot of area's around Pa and Ny!! I can't wait for More!
Thanks Darrell!.. I'm impressed.. All 7 episodes!.. That's about 5 hours worth of video.. I'm honored that I could hold your attention that long (lol!).. The Williamsport area is one of my favorite areas.. As I'm sure you know, the 10A and 11A now go up and down the Sunbury.. I'm planning another video video exclusive to the Williamsport/Lock Haven area.. Maybe you could help me with that.. Give it some thought.. I could use some help with the industries and culture of the area.
At the beginning this video, it was Scranton, at the gas station, was that near Clarks Summit?
That's right.
Very entertaining video Trains21. Loved all of the locations and all of the info you put into the video. Very interesting how the NYSW units are numbered. I didn't know that! Pretty cool. Also that SU-100 lashup was outstanding...living close to the origin point for the SU-99, I've railfanned it many times (only have gotten the 100 once) and even I have never seen that many units on the train. Unfortunately this time of year it's difficult to railfan the 99, even if they depart on time, it's still dark out. In time I'll be watching more of these How Railroad Work videos, I'm very impressed.
Thanks, Scott.. I'm glad you liked it.. I saw that you have some new stuff up that I have to check out tonight or tomorrow but in regards to what you said, catching that train was an accident!.. Here's the story..
We were actually on our way OUT of Bingo when my friend spotted it in a trench.. I completely missed it but that's as far as it went, we had no intention of catching it.. About a mile or so down the road, I noticed a cab and two men at a crossing and immediately new that a crew change was taking place there.. Since I didn't see the train prior to its arrival at the crossing I was completely blown away by that 7-unit lashup.. Even more so when I heard those big 60s takeoff!
To this day, it's one of my luckiest (surprise) catches ever!! As you pointed out, those trains are hard enough to catch at all, much less with a lash up like that one had!
loved the car tour and the music ,like the 80 mod locos with long line of cars good video
Thanks Richard.. Long time, no hear.. Glad to see that you're still on this journey with us :-)
Went to college in Binghamton, NY in the late '50 and early '60's. Didn't realize that there was still ANY railroad in that area.
Yeah, quite a bit actually thanks to NS.. It's their Northeastern hub now
I've noticed the locomotive designations, what's the real difference, the engine size, the equipment onboard???
Usually the engine and/or body type but there are sometimes smaller differences (e.g.) SD40/SDP40/SD40-2/SD40T-2
The SD40 was the standard (Special Duty) locomotive EMD introduced around 1966
The SDP40 was for passenger service
The SD40-2 improved on the origianl SD40 with better trucks and electronics
The SD40T-2 (Tunnel Motor) had a modified cooling system for use in the western states with long tunnels
Trains21 Thanks for the info.
Any time.
I know its a little bit of a ride, but if you get the chance, would you consider doing one of these for the NS Harrisburg line from Harrisburg to Reading? It's the line I live on and I still have no idea what train is what and how to identify the symbols (except H33). Its an ex Reading line and there's lots of old stuff on the line, especially near Lebanon. The old Reading Lebanon Station and the Cornwall and Lebanon Station are literally a few hundred feet apart here. Hell, my local bank has a bunch of pictures on their wall from the Reading railroad's heyday. They even have an old coal scoop hung on the wall!
Nice.. It's on my bucket list!
@@Trains21 Awesome!
Great catch with the NYS&W locks
Why the two dead in yrail?
2:12 I believe we have an O-scale train just like that.
Cool!
I see some of the hopper cars still have "Penn Central" on them. How long do such cars stay in service? Do they ever get repainted?
How long depends on many factors but it's not likely cars that old would be repainted at this point in time.
In the 33:00 to 34:00 I seen several Cargill Salt cars 5000 - 5699? Have you seen any with thr grey frames? What route were they on? Train I.D.? Love your videos, you cover NS well.i live west of Salt Lake City and in the winter of 2017 I thought that NS 4047 was going to call Utah home! It stuck around for a while. Now to get some parts and build one or three AC44C6M's! If you ever see the 4228 please let me know. It's now my favorite road unit. Next would be the former two SD40-2's from KCCX.
Can the corn ball sound track please.
If I wanted to watch a "music Video" I would tune into MTV
Last time I checked.. They didn't play music videos any more.. You're better off here on You Tube
Make a trip to Sayre Pa. ten to fifteen trains per day at the rail yard NS, Csx, Pennsylvania railroad and much more trains. The rail yard is a little smaller
Wow.. Didn't know Sayre was that busy these days.. I'll have to do that the next time that I'm on the Southern Tier Line..
Sayre daily trains are NS H12, H13 and the LRWY from Towanda, you may see the union tank crew working the old westbound yard but there are only 2 NS trains, 1 lehigh and 1 union tank crew not 15. I am in sayre 2-3 times a week and have filmed rail ops there for 30 years. Waverly on the NS Southern tier main on the other hand will see several trains daily but they don't travel into sayre yard.
Ever thought of following a particular train from Binghamton to Albany on the old D&H main line?
Horseshoe Curve
I will eventually get there again (not sure when) but I have to tell you that Horseshoe Curve is more of a tourist attraction than a railfan hotspot IMHO.
How the NS D&H works:Train stalls on Belden Hill, sends a engine set and it still doesn't make it.
So, take one off of 11R. And it still doesn't make it.
Yep.. That sounds about right.. Sad.. I thought the only uphill dramas on the D&H took place here in Scranton.
They happen all over the D&H, above Binghamton is where40-50% of all stalled trains are reported
Since when or has C.R.England been on Intrermodel trains?
A long time now.. That's the way most trucking is heading.
@@Trains21 well I know that just never seen C.R. New England on intermodal trains that's all
Any idea why CP pulled out? Binghamton was important to them, at one time.
You sort of answered your own question.. Binghamton (and anywhere south of Albany) was no longer important to them.. I'm not sure why.
Great Video I actually liked the Music as well.
Thanks, Peter.. I'm glad that you enjoyed..
Does this give the Susquehanna free reign of the NS property downtown?
Probably not.. Considering that NYSW is owned 40% by NS, 40% by CSX and 20% by the Delaware Otsego Corp.
LOL ;-)
Change the title of this video its not about how railroads work it did not explain anything
Neither did you so now we're even.
@@Trains21 Damn bro you're always leaving aggressive comments haha. He's not really wrong though honestly. Personally I really enjoy this series. I'm from Kansas and basically only get to railfan the UP which sucks so seeing some of what you guys have out East, especially the short lines, is really awesome. But I do have to say this is more of a railfan adventure, a very good one to be sure, but it doesn't explain much about how railroads actually operate. Except for the MOW one that one was very informative and one of my favorites in the series.
Erie high and wide could easily take on this stride SIR.it was 5foot quauge too begin with 1888 and otisville tunnnille
Trains21 can I make a request for a video?
But of course..
What company had the pink and white boxcar with what looked like 'HO' in the upper right corner?
Hub Group maybe
Do you know what NS train IDs go north up the wye in Binghamton that come from Binghamton terminal?
16R, 31T, 28N, 22K
OK. Can you watch one of my newest video and see if you can ID that train?
I'd be a patreon contributor today only if you had some audio commentary...
That's where the money will be going towards.. That and other related expenses.
Great! You get that end tied down and you'll be set. Your video production is superb!
Thanks.. Appreciate that!
sure would have been cool if that myself sd40-2 had kept its high hood Trains21. by the way Trains21 how do I find you on Facebook
Yes, it would have been.. Especially since NS got rid of all of there's.. BTW. Not on FB
sorry that myself should have said NYSW
I would've figured it out ;-)
3634 is dead
:-(
I don’t recall the music being so irritating on your earlier videos.
I don't recall you being so irritating on earlier videos.
I don't recall you posting annoying comments like this
@@anrails3220 If you don't like what I say, stay off of my channel.. Problem solved.. And while you're at it, stay random.
@@Trains21 that was directed to that other guy, I would never say that to you
@@anrails3220 Aw man, I'm sorry.. I'm going to delete that comment.. Thanks for letting me know.. Maybe I need to lighten up.. It just seems like more and more lately, I'm being savagely attacked by people.. I don't know who's who anymore.. Sorry again.
Music instead of moving trains?, and so loud! No thanks.
