I’m a Liverpool fan but in the 60s, when I couldn’t afford to go to our away games I’d go to Old Trafford with my mates who were Utd supporters. At that time Law was astonishing- unplayable at times. Alfredo di Stefano described him as the best player in the world at his peak, before his injuries. No wonder he was twice the most expensive footballer, in terms of transfer fees, at that time.
Maybe it's because I'm from Manchester that I love United so.Maybe it's because I'm from Manchester that I follow them where ever they go.I get a funny feeling inside of me when I see George Best score,Maybe it's because I'm from Manchester where the King is DENIS LAW. Loved this song on the Stretford End. I've supported the Reds for 61 years since I was 10 years old, hard to accept what the team is like now.
Great memories, the football to me anyway, far more interesting and exciting than todays football by numbers game. However, everyone take their rose tinted glasses off a minute. For all the greats on show there was an awful lot of poor passing, poor tackling, poor defending, poor goalkeeping etc on show. It was September and the pitch was still in good nick so the state of the ground can't be blamed.
They would have todays sports science, todays pitches, todays protection from being tackled from behind. They would dominate today as they did then. It’s all relative.
@@popatyourecords Charlton Best and Law They were good in their day, but not in the same class as today’s super fit sports medicine athletes. The style of play meant the ball was continually being turned over. The good old days…..🤣
@@JimReid-cb8lxThose super fit athletes would not have managed to cope with those pitches the way Law, Best, Charlton, Greaves and others did. Anything less than a pitch like a bowling green and they would struggle.

Law was so good when young and heavily involved, before injury
I saw Denis Law playing for Scotland a number of times. He had great vision, deft touch and that predatory instinct. Great player.
Lovely quote from Bill Shankly was 'Law didn't look much... until you saw him play!'

He's here, he's there, he's every f§§§ing where, Denis Law, Denis Law
Such great names and great memories Law, Greeves, Paddy Creland etc.
Crerand.
Jennings having a nightmare of a game. Didn’t happen often.
Another one was v Celtic.
I was wondering who the goalie making the awful mistakes was. Very rare usually one of the best players in the league.

Good for their time -- wouldn't last five minutes today

Jeez, dreadful pitch and heavy ball in the wet. Standard looks awful.
3 players on that pitch that are better than today
