      I have been compared to a lot of different stuff, most of it bad, but I like being compared to MASH the most, a show that is always fun to watch.

    Good handling of those slippery spiky finned critters. Seen a few guys at A&E that have been impaled by catfish.

      We find the pla ghot (I dont know how to say or spell its name) the most dangerous spiky catfish in Thailand. Their fins are barbed as hell. They grow a bit bigger but slower than the walking catfish & in my opinion taste even better, but they are both great food! We grow them but struggle to get the numbers up because we cant get hold of any fingerlings to buy. We have to catch them wild from the local rivers, which is never easy due to netting & shocking in the local rivers.
      Cheers Leigh.

    Can you grow freshwater Mottled Eels in those tanks.
    its not a request actually, its a question from the depth of my curiousity.
    because I heard freshwater eels have too much health benefits.

    I count 139, but I think that's a little bit high. It's hard telling what's a fish belly and what is a particularly thick bit of fish-slimey water, so I'm sure I over counted. If I were placing a bet I'd guess between 110 and 125.

      Worms would work but a maggot farm or black soldier fly larva is better and easier to harvest.

    @SouthpawDavey 7 лет назад

    Wow mate they look great the size surprised me so fast. Two month to harvest would be an amazing result. Lot of food gone in eating machines. Be interesting to see how many kilos you get at the end. Are they expensive if you buy them in the market?

    • @lifeinthailand
      @lifeinthailand  7 лет назад

      There normally 60 baht per KG here, not sure what it would cost to get them to market size but there has to be money in it, not that I am looking to sell any, best part IMO anyway, mine are much better than anything you can buy.

    • @SouthpawDavey
      @SouthpawDavey 7 лет назад

      Anything you grow yourself is better eating. Be interesting to see how much the cost per KG to raise ans how many KG of fish you got out of it.

    • @lifeinthailand
      @lifeinthailand  7 лет назад +1

      The mother in law asked after the last big fish harvest why my fish tasted so much better then the fish in the markets, maybe she was just trying to make me feel good...lol

    Use that shit water to grow some vegetables to help feed the fish with. Even if its just some kind of weed they like to eat, any money you don't spend feeding them is profit for you.
    I've heard duckweed is a popular choice, and you might be able to just find some in a local pond or something.

      Breeding fish requires a tank that has hiding places or plant material. Don't know which one this species of fish needs. Regular catfish need 5 gallon buckets turned on their side to breed in.

      The walking catfish (Clarias batrachus) is a species of freshwater airbreathing catfish native to Southeast Asia. It is named for its ability to "walk" and wiggle across dry land, to find food or suitable environments.

      Catfish are native to muddy river waters probably about 1000* less sanitary than the water in the video. Most of them are caught and eaten and look perfectly healthy... Catfish can even survive in a cooler full of ice for several hours. The slightly murky water in the video most certainly not effect this fish, they are probably one of the sturdiest fish on this planet.

    • @wayneamelie278
      @wayneamelie278 6 лет назад

      KawaiiAstronaut, catfish can be as sturdy as they want but if ammonia levels get too high they burn and become deformed like every other kind of fish. Obviously they can survive in muddy water, suspended particles don't harm fish but ammonia does. This dudes water is loaded with ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, he even said the water smelt bad in this vid.
