There will always be people out there trying to dethrone the best. Fabricating stories clinging to fame any way they can. It was proven that Bruce Lee won the fight. Then not long after Bruce became something none of us has seen before. Because Bruce was a highly intelligent he not only mastered the body but the mind as well. Bruce majored in philosophy at Washington State where he took martial arts to a new form, Jeet Kune Do, Way Of Intercepting Fist. Brillant work and gained him acknowledgment not just as a teacher but as a philosopher. Wong Jack Man was none of those but a simple bully who tried to push the wrong guy around. (Bruce Lee)

@@cuzz63 Those of little knowledge. Bruce was forced to accept Wong Jackmans challenge. The fight was VERY short. Wong Jackman claims that he beat Bruce. With that, his credentials (if any) and anything Wong had going for him was no longer believable. And yes Wong was a bully especially after the fight because he bragged about beating Bruce which never happened. He has zero credibility. Bruce Lee was and still is the master. You need to check your sources.

Even Bruce's people said it lasted 3 minutes. I agree that Bruce won but Wong wasnt known for his fighting skills and this fight cause Bruce to rethink his approach to Martial Arts. You are making claims that have no basis in facts.
The story I heard in 1968 from one of my martial arts instructors was that Bruce Lee was chasing this gentleman (Wong) around the room after a couple minutes, won the fight, and was allowed to continue to teach to non Asians, because of this victory. Arkey Wong was one of the few others that I can remember teaching to non Asians at that point. This is now 2017 and many things are now taken for granted, however if you were black and or non Asia in 1968 very few traditional Chinese martial artists would venture to teach you anything. My props to Arkey Wong and especially Bruce Lee to whom race didn't matter. (In other arts like Karate, Judo there were a others like Chuck Norris who thought anyone regardless of race.) Long Live the memory of Bruce Lee, as he was the Best.

Correction Please, the fight ended with Bruce Lee chasing Wong around the room, catching him, pounding his face, and Wong saying he gave up. ( Wong's supporters on the scene had tried to stop the encounter earlier as Wong was also not blocking Lee's early probes.)
Sorry but a movie can't change what really happened. What was on the line was the question of whether Lee would be allowed to continue to teach to non- Asians. As then, as now, Jeet Kune Do is taught to non Asians.( the sixties was not a time of universal martial arts harmony, back then, the colour of your skin was one of the defining factors in some quarters as to if you would be taught. )

Wong didn't win. It's the one indisputable fact that Bruce had won the fight. Even if Linda hadn't said shit it was still known that Bruce had won the fight. Kung Fu artists and Masters need to get over themselves. The young Bruce was looking to reform the arts and did so successfully, stop trying to break down his rep and make him see weak.

James Agnagos Apparently Wong Jak Man the chicken lost because his style sucks even more and he’s supposed to be a master but Needed more than 20 minutes to deal with a student with less experience. Wong Jak Man the real chicken flea had Taiji, Xing Yi, and North Shaolin they traditionally trained in forms and not enough conditioning of sparring. During those years most practitioners of those traditional styles don't know how to block a jab or had proper footwork. Also if Wong Jak Man was up for a rematch why did Leo Fong and Bruce go to his restaurant and Wong ended up running away and never talking about his fight with Bruce. Wong remained silent and never told his students about the fight for years shithead.
At that time, pound per pound, nobody was going to beat Bruce, he's too strong , too fast and too good. Here's why Bruce was far better than anybody, he applied logic, psychology, science, you name it into his fighting. If somebody is physically faster, stronger and also mentally better than you, he'll kick your ass for sure.

It does not matter whether he lost or won this fight. He was strong in spirit and body. Bruce Lee was a great fighter. Proof of this was a tablet with an inscription in his school of kung fu in the USA: I will accept a challenge from anyone, anywhere, anytime.
it is sad that Mr. Bruce Lee is despised and hated so much by people who have never tried to make the world a better place or to improve themselves. I am not an expert on anything except trying to understand and to learn. I am not against anyone, but i must say that if Mr. Bruce Lee did not live up to your expectations, please try to do better than him. I find in him something that is very positive to aspire too, to become better as a person, not just in martial arts, but to discover one's self as we go along in life. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about Mr. Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee won the fight. The proof is he started to teach non-chinese without any problem after the fight.

Wong Jackman and his supporters must be feeling bitter all this time. The irony is that whrn you are into martial arts, you are taught to courageously accept defeat. Because you are supposed to learn from that experience in order to improve. That's why Bruce Lee shines because he embodies the true values of a martial artist. He had the best master in the namw of Yip Man, a true legendary Wing Chun Master and a genius as well. Who could beat that?

I heard James Lee (Jimmy Lee) who was a witness to the fight, laughing and bragging to Bruce about how Bruce had trounced Jack Man in the fight. It would have made no sense for him to do that in front of Bruce if Bruce had actually lost to Jack Man, because Bruce Lee would have known whether he lost or not, and wouldn't need Jimmy Lee to tell him!
What is your source for this story? It seems Jimmy actually said something completely different to Leo Fong. "Leo Fong does mention that Jimmy did call him after the fight was over. In Leo's words, "Afterwards Jimmy called me
saying the sucker kept running around and Bruce couldn't catch him". You can read that on his website.
I spoke to a student of Bruce Lee and he spoke to James Lee and he said that that wong Jack man ran away from Bruce Lee and Bruce Lee made him give up. Also if you read the Matthew Polly book on Bruce Lee. James Lee and Bruce Lee went to the restaurant where wong Jack man was working and when he saw Bruce Lee he dropped tea on the floor he was holding. I strongly recommend Bruce Lee fans get this book it names some of Bruce Lee opponents he fought.
@@ninjanizzle I was one of Bruce's students in Oakland and overheard them talking about the fight in Jimmy Lee's garage. Bruce said that Man ran the whole time and "wouldn't stand and fight" so I don't doubt that Jimmy may have said that to Fong. He couldn't catch him for however long, and that was a problem. However, Jimmy clearly thought that Bruce had won the fight. He bragged about it. There are accounts that Man tripped over something at the end and Bruce pounced on him. Bruce either caught the guy at the end or it was something like that. But to me, that's no excuse. If you ran and didn't see something, and tripped over it, you were the lesser fighter and lost, because when employing that technique, awareness of where you are at all times is part of it. It was your decision to run.

David Chin and William Chen said it was the hardest blow of the fight. Joe Davis confirmed that bruise and he was a student of Bruce at the time. Jimmy told him and the other students they weren't allowed to talk about it or the fight. What is your name and when were you a student?
"Joe Davis (b.1937), now a grandmaster of Kajukenbo and one of its highest ranking members, verified the effect of Wong's strike on Bruce. Not knowing the exact details of the fight, he related that he had always believed that that Wong must have kicked Bruce on the neck, judging by the large size and look of the contusion. He said, "Bruce had a long bruise on the left side of his neck, and for many years I thought it was the result of a kick. Jimmy made it known to us (the students) that we were not to mention it nor ask about it."
The source of that quote is the book Showdown In Oakland by Rick Wing.
I couldn't find much Jimmy said about the fight. If Bruce couldn't catch Wong clean I don't consider him the victor. I believe it was a draw. Jimmy said Bruce couldn't catch him so I'm going with that as it matches up with what David Chin and William Chen said in Showdown In Oakland. It also matches with what Bruce said in a letter to Jimmy about the fight.
"In a letter written from Bruce Lee to Jimmy Lee on August 7, 1965, a few months after the fight, he wrote "As for the "runners" gung fu school, it's just another waste of time with a little bit more to offer ---- calisthenics! The more I think of him to have fought me without getting blasted bad, the more I'm pissed off! If I just took my time, {but} anger screwed me up --- that bum is nothing!"
Bruce is admitting he got angry and fought poorly as a result, causing him to gas out. He even admits Wong didn't get blasted which means Wong was able to evade most of his attacks. David and William said the only clean strike Bruce landed was his attempted eye poke at the start of the fight, when Wong tried to shake hands. He also told Leo Fong his Wing Chun strikes were ineffective against a moving target (Wong). That is when Leo Fong told him to add Boxing to his fighting style, which led to the creation of Jeet Kune Do.
Showdown in Oakland says Wong tripped over a showcase window, but even when he was down he blocked all of the attempted strikes by Bruce using his arms. He used either his foot or knee to keep Bruce at bay, according to William Chen and David Chin. Bruce was out of breath and angrily shouting for Wong to admit defeat but he said nothing. That is when the fight was stopped. I don't consider that a loss as he never submitted. Bruce was completely out of gas, so why would he? It also proves Wong didn't turn his back and run from Bruce, as if he did he would've seen where he was going and not tripped over anything. These are the kind of problems you get when a fight isn't arranged properly and fought in a ring free of obstacles. Obviously Wong wouldn't be completely aware of the layout of Bruce Lees school, as that was the first time he went there.
Almost 50 years later Linda said this - "There were very little combat or connecting blows. ... Nobody got banged up; there were no black eyes or anything like that."
This contradicts a claim by Bruce that he beat Wong black and blue. That sounds like a draw to me, it also contradicts her original story.
"For an instant, indeed, the scrap threatened to degenerate into a farce as Wong actually turned and ran. But Bruce pounced on him like a springing leopard and brought him to the floor where he began pounding him into a state of demoralization. "Is that enough?" shouted Bruce, "That's enough!" pleaded his adversary. Bruce demanded a second reply to his question to make sure that he understood this was the end of the fight."
Bruce also confessed to Dan Inosanto "i was tired, Dan. I was so tired I couldn't even punch him."

3 Points i need to mention here:
1- There is no point to do a rematch challenge to a loser which jackman did later after some time of this event happened. Why would a winner throw a rematch challenge to a loser, that makes exactly no sense or is completely illogical.
2- Leo Wong, Linda Lee, Dan Inosanto, Ted Wong and many others mentioned the same fight as a win for bruce, if just take the other versions of the same fight, this fight includes a condition where loser have to shut down his dojo or school, which clearly bruce didn't until he started his career as an actor. You are just mentioning a single source "showdown in oakland", while I'm mentioning several sources and events that matches the versions of linda and leo wong. The fact is that it ended up taking longer than expected for bruce to end the fight, so he started polishing his skills which as a martial artist i can accept the same fact because if we are slow in any combo and style, we have to use variations that can be seen in jeet kune do. Also, there are no video evidences of Joe Davis and James Lee to prove your claims while others that are supporting the bruce version are saying it openly in several videos.
3- Anyone can say anything after his death, because he's not alive to refuse or reject the claims made. After his death, people started saying things, when he was alive they don't had courage to do it lolzzz.

My friend trained with Ted Wong one of Bruce Lee Students. He told him Bruce Lee beat Wong Jack Man. By the way Ali vs Norton, they fought 3 times.
Master Leo Fong would have been 90 yrs old when he was interviewed about this story..He was right about Ali and Norton having
met 3 times in the ring ,it was some one in the audience who piped and yelled out twice..Watched the movie about Bruce and WJM and who i didn't see in the movie was Linda Lee,now if she said she saw the fight don't you think she would have had a part in this movie..
I was at Oakland during this time, and I can testify that the phrase "Jeet Kune Do" was first invented there also. I didn't like the term at the time (the "Jeet" grated on my mind for some reason), and just wished Bruce had stuck to "Gung Fu," or Jun Fan Gung Fu, which was "Bruce Lee's Gung Fu." I didn't understand what he was doing when I first heard him talk about it, but now of course, I'm quite used to the sound of "Jeet Kune Do," and have no problem with it.

If you do enough research on people that actual have first hand accounts about the fight, including Wong Jack Man you can see that Linda, and one of Bruce's friends were helping to keep up this story. There were not direct hits, and Linda leaves out the fact that Bruce try to finger jab Wong in the eye to start the fight. Wong never ran, Bruce got tired because Wong was blocking all his flurries and got tired. This is why he said his knowledge of Wing Chun was impractical, and he had to find a new method to achieve what he wanted. Bruce and Wong were sworn not to talk about it, but Bruce failed on his end and mentioned it in an interview. In response Wong put a challenge to Bruce again in a newspaper I believe, and Bruce never responded. This is fact and can be easily researched and found.
