  • I did an unboxing video for this new Witness P Match or Witness Polymer Match in 9mm (linked below) and wanted to do a simple review of it after putting 350-400 rounds through it. I include a look at a "representative" 15 shot grouping at 10 yards and also a "micro" review of the Kimber Micro 9--sort of by accident.

    Get the fiber front sight from patriot defense - they sell the Dawson fiber front sight it works well with the factory rear

      Fiber sights are useless at night. They are best from dawn to dusk, but even so the light has to be right. Tritium is what professionals and serious self defense shooters want

    I just picked one of these up today. I cut 2 red vinyl circles to put under the grip to make the “T” red. I’m pretty sure that’s what they did originally. Or painted it. Also, there is a pre-travel and over-travel screw in the trigger. The pre-travel is just under the trigger spring. It’s really hard to see. Of course I guess it’s possible it’s something they added recently? But I would double check yours to make sure. Thanks for the video.

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  7 лет назад

      Thanks, Shane. I'll have another look at it. Seems odd that Tanfo doesn't list pre-travel in the gun specs. As fot the red T, I noticed that EAA changed over all the images on their site! HA! I hope you enjoy the gun!

      Shane, can you advise how you get the grips off so I can put red under the T? Thanks!

    • @shanemoser6894
      @shanemoser6894 6 лет назад

      Tony, there is a small roll pin on the top of the grip. Push that pin out and work the grips off. Hope this helps.

    • @tonynicosia116
      @tonynicosia116 6 лет назад

      Thanks Shane! Yes, remove roll pin and see a bit tricky to push the grip slightly back to get it to disengage from the frame. Will look for bright red vinyl as you've noted to apply under the grip to achieve the "red T" in the grip. Thank you!

    I've never heard of fully blacked out competition sights always usually blacked out rear and fiber front. I heard from someone that on this model you cant change front sight. If that's the case you could just take a silver or fluorescent colored bright paint marker and make a dot on front sight! Would help a ton

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  4 года назад

      You can buy a front sight for it from EAA. It is, however, unfortunately expensive for a tiny piece of metal with a bit of fiber optic in it. When I compete, however, I use my Shadow 2 which is a bit more "flexible" in its features than this Tanfo.

    Just bought this EAA P Match in 45acp. My first 50 rounds I had two FTF but after that the gun kept shooting smooth. After 350 rounds with different ammo brands, freedomunitions,remington and blazer I had no problems at all. Sadly only one mag comes with this gun, had to get more from Henning Group site. Does anyone know where to get a holster for this gun? ..Thank you.

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  6 лет назад +2

      I bought a "The One" holster from Ghost. Their Tanfoglio model fits this gun. Now, that said, that's a pricey competition holster, but it fits! I haven't tried shopping specifically for something like a fully contained Kydex holster. My guess is you'll come up dry. Thanks for the visit.

    I have one of these, M. Ross's comments about the sights is correct, very poor. I wish they had the bright front sight on this gun. I put a drop of bright red finger nail polish on the front sight. That helped a bit. Anyone know who sells extra mags for this gun. Unfortunately it only comes with one mag. Disappointment. Gun overall is awesome and very accurate, very reliable, very repeatable!

    Thanks for the update. Looks pretty much identical to the the polymer carry/force frames. Does the dust cover have supporting rails molded into it? Im thinking about picking one up in 10mm.

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  7 лет назад

      Are you talking about internal cuts for the slide or are you talking about external rail mounts for accessories? If it's the latter, then no. Not on THIS model. The Witness P Match (not the "Pro") has the accessory rail and sells for a little less than these. That gun seems to me to be a crossover pistol that someone might use both for home defense and for plinking at the range. It's DA/SA, has the accessory rail, and does not have an over-travel screw on the trigger. This "pro" model is single action only, no accessory rail, and has the over-travel screw.

    • @Tirrany2000
      @Tirrany2000 7 лет назад

      internal cuts for the slide to ride in on the frame. I see the 4 small metal tabs that the slide acually rides on in the frame like on the force. I was just wondering if the the the rails extend forward all the way to the front of the frame along the full length dust cover. Thanks.

    • @southfork67
      @southfork67 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the videos. Does this pistol not have a pre travel adjustment screw? Because you have a ton of takeup, which defeats the purpose of a SAO trigger in this type of pistol. It appears to use the same style trigger as the Elite Match models and they have both pre and overtravel screws. I'm assuming the trigger is not polymer? Thanks.

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the visit and the comment. Your comment spurs an analogy in my head, so I hope you'll indulge me as I offer my thoughts on the "match" pedigree of this gun.
      It does not have a pre-travel adjustment screw and it does not have a polymer trigger. Now, before you go knocking the gun for lacking a screw and having a (1/10th of an inch) take up, it's important to keep in mind what this gun really is and what the gun is really for. I'm a Nikon camera shooter and I have a Nikon D750. It's a pro's camera. If it were a Tanfo match gun, it would be a slightly souped up Stock III. The Nikon D3500, however, is geared to be a budding photographer's first camera. In the same way, this gun is geared to be the budding match shooter's first match gun. The D3500 is a great little camera but it can't hang with my D750. The thing is, it wasn't meant to. So, when I think of this gun like that, it's a great gun. The price is a little high but that's expected on a new release and it will change with time. The take-up is really only an issue on the first trigger pull whereupon good trigger control and the short reset take over from there. Is that a sacrifice? Sure it is. Especially if you're running and have to pull off the trigger only to stop to shoot and get back on it. (In, say, Steel Challenge, the impact is arguably minimized because you don't ever get off the trigger.) But, I'm a little forgiving here on the features that this gun lacks--well, except those missing magazine! HA! Again, it's not a Stock III and it's not trying to be one. So, I wouldn't necessarily say that the take-up on the trigger "defeats the purpose" of the gun any more than I'd say the inferior image processor on the Nikon D3500 "defeats the purpose" of that camera for the entry-level photographer. However, that's just one man's opinion. I hope all this helps to give shape to how I think of this gun and its operation.
      What it IS is a great plinker and "first local tournament" gun. The "Pro" in the name is just a label to differentiate it from the "regular" model which seems like it's more a of a home-defense gun with a mag-well. ; ) Despite the "Pro" in the name, the price is the real indicator that this is an entry-level match gun. Just my two cents!

    I want this in 10mm but can"t seem to find a decent holster for it. Any current owners have any suggestions?

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  6 лет назад

      Well, it depends on what kind of holster you're looking for. There are very few holster for this gun. That's undoubtedly a feature of a few things: 1. It's a Tanfoglio and not a Glock. 2. It's a recently released gun. 3. As a niche match gun and not a carry gun, there's less incentive to make holsters for it. Now, having said that, there are plenty of fabric holster for "large frame" guns that will fit this. Obviously, that's not a concealing holster and the only retention will be a thumb strap. I have a holster for this, but it's a competition holster. It's a $150 holster. But, it's phenomenal and fits the gun like a glove. You can have a custom holster made for this for less if you're looking for something that's not made to be strung on a competition belt. Good luck!

      HA! I'm sure it's coming. After having this gun for a while, I really like the sights and I decided not to swap out the front. I'm driving tacks with it and I don't want to "fix" that. Thanks for the tips on the polishing. I've never done it before, but I've heard good things about it.

    Good video other than showing the Kimber...ha ha! Truth be told, I'm not a Kimber fan..I've tried a few, did some research and know a couple people with them but I am very interested in owning a Witness to go with my 1911 collection.

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  4 года назад

      Thanks, Thomas. I know that Kimbers are a divisive gun. I really like mine. Runs great. Eats what I feed it. I really can't complain.
      I own a CZ Shadow 2 and this Witness shoots just as accurately and has a better trigger (because it's SAO). The S2's sights are better and I'm sure it'll probably last longer and hold its value, but I have no complaints about this Witness. It's still an amazing gun for the dough.

    • @thomasakatidalforce7987
      @thomasakatidalforce7987 4 года назад +1

      My brother has a Shadow and it's really nice. The 1911 is my favorite platform at the range and I have yet to handle a pistol that can match the ergonomics. However, I am looking to expand my horizons and the CZs I've handled and shot come close to the 1911...so I'm assuming the Witness will as well. Thanks for the video my friend.

      Sometimes a thin line of whiteout on the front sight helps. Aim small, miss small. If you don't like it you can wipe it off with your finger. Take it from an old guy with old eyes.

    This or the older Elite steel model?

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  6 лет назад

      I don't have the steel model and have never shot it, so I can't make a direct comparison there. But let me continue to slather on the high praise. I also own a CZ Shadow 2 and this gun is just as accurate (inch groups at 10 yards) and has a nicer stock trigger (certainly by virtue of being SAO, but still). I remain very impressed with this gun a year into it. It's just a great performer.

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle  7 лет назад +2

      My guess is that it wouldn't really compare much at all. The 75D is all-metal, DA/SA, and smaller than the P-Match. Among other things. That said, I don't own a 75D PCR, but it looks like a good gun. Does CZ make a bad handgun? Not that I know of!

    Update on a few things since I made the video:
    1. I was incorrect about the "smoke bomb" ammo mentioned in the video. They were 125 grains. I had my first and only FTF with that ammo as I put another 125 rounds through it today. I'm not concerned about it. The gun had 300 rounds or more through it since the last cleaning and this stuff is not just cheap ammo, it's remanufactured and really dirty stuff. I also shot Winchester white box and Federal range ammo and had no problems with either.
    2. Shot outside today and the competition sights are what they are. I still don't like a plain front sight. In a proper sight picture, they do have some gaps to the sides of the front post--not much. The white steel plates were clearly visible between the rear sights and front post and I found I could aim and transition quickly and easily.
    3. If you don't want to read the comments, here are some additional specs/clarifications: There is no pre-travel screw on the trigger. It seems odd for a "match" gun not to have one, but this is really an entry-level match gun that I never expected to have all the trappings of a match gun. I don't think Tanfoglio had any pretenses that this thing would fit snugly within their match line-up as opposed to sitting at the back of that line. 4. I did a recoil comparison video between this polymer gun and an all-steel Beretta 92fs. Check out the video description for the link.

    Good video but you can't really compare a 1911 trigger to another style of gun. 1911s have the best triggers out there but they obviously come with their drawbacks as well

    • @randomhandle

      True, and I acknowledge that in the video. In terms of the guns I own, however, it's the most comparable break and reset. That's the principal point.
