  • I was keen to get this silver dialled watch in from Baltic to give it a go, knowing in the back of my mind, I wonder how they are going to get around the legibility problem, being all silver dial and handset.
    To my surprise this has been a superb watch with the legibility being a non-issue. Also an extremely attractive one at that.

    Baltic is one of those brands that makes lookers. I love the look of their watches but there is always something technically that makes me wrinkle my nose. Water resistance, lack of sapphire crystal, movement functionality, etc. Appreciate their efforts!

    Hello and thanks for this review Peter. This watch is surrely one of the best from Baltic since ... their really first one, the beautiful Aquascaphe. I agree all what you said about what more could be offered, even in another price range : sapphire, 39 mm, 10 ATM and quick release.

    Great review Pete as usual. I saw Baltic in the flesh at Time & Tide in Melbourne & was disappointed. The images on line looked great & I love vintage or vintage inspired watches but somehow these were underwhelming. I think that industrial style bezel is out of place on a dress watch especailly in a vintage style watch, 1950’s dress watches always had a slim elegant case where the dial was the focal point making a 35/36 mm watch wear a bit larger. This looks out of proportion to me with too thick a bezel. Each to their own 😊

    Nice case
    Good price
    The rest is unappealing
    I agree with your suggestions with one main addition
    This movement is not good. I don’t care that it has a micro rotor. It’s noisy, unfinished and potentially long term unreliable. It’s not nice to look at either, sorry but to me looks really cheap, especially those rough bridges.
    Replace with a slim reliable manual wind movement and stick the price up to a Farer and then you have a finished product worthy of purchase
    For me

    I always thought the original MR01 would have been perfect (for me) with a brushed instead of polished bezel (I own it and have dabbled with the thought of getting mine brushed by a jeweler). I think Baltic may have heard this a lot too and listened to that feedback with this iteration. Kudos to them.

      @@PeterKotsa well, now that you bring it up, with both straps they include I found the buckle really uncomfortable, and they were very patient with me as I complained. Finally, I found another leather strap (which also tapered from 20 to 16) attached the bronze buckle, and now I’m very happy with it. And the strap I got helps it feel a little beefier and more vintage.

    Thank you for sharing Pete. I absolutely love the silver on a silver bracelet look, it's fantastic. I also like the 36mm case, don't mind the hesalite crystal, would prefer a brushed bracelet, would welcome a little more WR (100m ideal), don't mind the lack of a on-the-fly adjustable clasp, BUT the big concern to me is the movement's reliability. And I will say something that will make you think I'm crazy, but I would rather have a high precision ultra high frequency quartz movement, like those used by Bulova, over this one if those were the only choices.

    This watch makes me wonder why the silver dial/black markers (and black hands too) combo is not more widely available. It is the perfect mix of style and legibility in my opinion, looks great
    on the humble Timex Marlin 34 (which still sells quite well from what I gather) and would equally suit an Omega Speedy Pro. Personally I'd love a titanium Longines Avigation BigEye seamlesly blending the case with the same material for the dial and 'clearing the stage' for the busy set of black hands and indices.

    Great video! Superb macros! I own the MR01 in blue and even though my wrist is 7¼ I don't have an issue with the size. That surprised me. It's probably partly due to the 20mm lug width. Same with this one. And I agree, the monochrome look (I believe that's the correct term) is so cool. The only thing that bothers me about my MR01 is that you can hear the rotor. When I hold it in my hand for some reason it feels a little cheap - light and rattly. In the watch box it looks kind of dull. But as soon as I put it on the wrist it's gorgeous! Such a strange experience...

    We are all watch designers ha ha. So here's my take. For me the bezel throws it out of kilter , ok it's nigh on impossible to guage sizes from a video or render , but as the bezel is polished on the o/d a polished shallow angle running up around half way then the rest brushed in my minds eye would look better, as it stands my eyes are drawn to a slab of bezel which detracts from the dial. Secondly the bracelet doesn't appear to have much taper , 20 /16 would perhaps suit it more. The case looks a little bit boxy at the lugs too , but that could be down to the bezel sticking out like a sore thumb. Wouldnt it be boring if we all agreed with everyones reviews !!. Good stuff though Peter. 🙂.

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  2 месяца назад +1

      Totally agree about that bracelet, a nice taper would have been great.
      I think the flat link bracelet does off a decent taper instead of this beads of rice 👍

      @keithburford8589 2 месяца назад +1

      @@PeterKotsa I had a butchers on Baltics website and nailed the flat link on , from the render it does appear to have more taper . Tough to tell but looks polished outer links and brushed centre to my old eyes. I couldn't find any info referring to any of the bracelets though. A few , but not many , watch companies provide this ( to us geeks ) vital piece information as if you are a Bracelet wearer it can be a make or break in buying the piece.

    The lack of sapphire crystal doesn't bother me as much as it should on this watch. My experience with hesalite has been better than mineral as you can easily remove scratches.

  • @benjaminvis
    @benjaminvis 2 месяца назад +1

    I have to agree that this monotone suits the design wonderfully well. Arguably they should have provided a grey leather to match. I have to note though that I am not entirely convinced by this bracelet's look on this watch. All brushed? Perhaps. I like a polished accent though. But at any rate, I think it needs a different style and a better taper. The watch head itself is nicely done. A truly sharp bezel would give me some pause, as where one touches shouldn't be too noticeable, but the sharp look works well. In fact, I think this dial style works arguably better than the lauded MR01 where I have always felt that the numerals are disproportionately sized making the dial feel crowded. While I can get behind the monotone look, I don't feel particularly excited by this though. Indeed, for the money I'd expect and prefer sapphire and better WR (though perhaps 5atm would be fine too), and it's a pity that the movement doesn't hack. As per usual, though, Baltic doesn't disappoint, but they have yet to come up with something that immediately makes me desire one. Instead, they make many pieces I'd probably gladly wear but have not ended up buying.

    Baltic makes some really nice and original dress watches. I have had first hand experience with my brown Baltic Hermétique. They have a knack of making watches that are interesting to look at in the long run and I think this model is no different and I like the serene and bold looks of it. It is quite a feat to make a convincing design of a monochrome watch, only relying on different textures and printing for differentiation.
    One question: Why did you choose the beads of rice bracelet over the flat link version? I think I would go with the latter because it looks more harmonious to me, the links being more similar to the hour sectors on the dial.
