Buuut, in a very Shang Tsung-way, deceptive practices, spying on allies and other realms, willing to assassinate potential threats without much concern for the aftermath. Again all with the intent of protection but in ways that are questionable, if not dangerous and divisive. Leading to evolving into something even more vicious than Dark Raiden.

The closest we ever got to a morally good Shang Tsung was MK vs DC. While he sided with characters like Raiden in order to save the realms, he also had multiple chances to kill people like Liu Kang that he never took advantage of. I just think it’s interesting seeing a twist on these characters. Deceptions opening is so good imo because it shows how Quan Chi and Shang Tsung’s conquest for domination only led them to ruin.
