    As an ACS CR. I get these calls daily. I just immediately ask if it's the CP 14, check if we have the payment, and calm the taxpayer down. It's horrible.

      I do not envy your position these days!
      Unfortunately, this sort of thing is (obviously on a much smaller scale) clogging up our phone lines too since there's nothing we can do for these folks...IRS just has to sort out the issue at this point.

    this happen to me for 2,600 I paid by check, they kept sending me a notice,,,I sent copy of my cashed ck to them 2 times...have not heard anything its been at least 30 days...and i think i paid them to much....they did send me a levy notice...but nothing happen...I think what happen is my check got applied to someone elses account....

    This IRS needs to spend the additional resources it has been given by the government on improving customer service and not on increased audits. The IRS is seriously impacting people's live negatively.

      For most people, they fill out and file their returns and either send their payment or get their refund.
      So, how is that materially impacting peoples' lives?
      After all, Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendel Holmes said, "....taxes are the price we pay for civilized society."

    What they should do is include an automated message while taxpayers are on hold so callers can calm down as they wait or hang up knowing the issue will clear itself up.
