      @@liamderosa2157 Personally when I got my new violin, I ran through Alliance Vivace, EP's and Jarger Superiors. On new violins or violins that havent been played much ive been told by luthiers that they open up better with high tension, and to wait to put on low tension like gut strings.

      I think my favourite was #4 as well. #3 had a nice clarity and detail to it, with good projection and character, but it lacked a 'oneness' of sound. 4 sounded very unified and the lower and upper registers complimented eachother really nicely. #2 just felt like it was lacking, and didnt have the same expressiveness.

    Thank you for the advice. Suggesting different techniques, such as low, hi, soft, loud, slow, fast, and especially 5ths (thank you) is very helpful. I would like to ask or suggest when describing what is good or what does not work for you, to offer specifics, rather than "it is not me" or "I don't feel comfortable." Perhaps: it is too bright, brash, brittle, or too warm or muted. Something that seems more specific to the sound or feel would be more helpful, I think. Otherwise, thank you for your tips.

    From the sound I liked #2 & #4. It's very difficult to tell from the short pieces you played though. I am saving up to get a better violin (around $2K - that's a lot for me!), but when I have tried violins before I can tell they are better than the one I have but not much else. I am not very good at playing so I feel like I don't even know enough to ask the right questions.

    I picked #4 as well, before she said anything. Powerful, well balanced and nice clarity. #2 was also clear, and clean, but a bit upper middle bright, and weaker at the bottom. Three was also pretty nice, and had a big bottom end but was a little rough at the bottom, heard some wolfy tones. #1 seemed to have poor intonation,... the parallel fifths didn't track well, I wasn't totally sure it was well tuned up,... even though it was loud, and had a lot of low end, it seemed to have what hi end audio people call intermodulation distortion, (wolf notes). I'm wondering if a better matching of strings might have helped that one???. I'd love to know the makers names and when these violins were made.

    This is only good for people that already know how to play, and play well. If someone is just starting or even been playing for a few years, they might not know what they're doing. I had a violin instructor friend tell me, if I can play twinkle twinkle little start with it sounding good in a year, I'd be doing well because of my age.

    I still play my old school 1855 Italian fiddle, taking it out for jazz gigs (it isn’t valuable) I have 2 others. The NEW well known Japanese made violin I invested in, I don’t like at all. It’s got a BIG projection, but no heart or soul. I’m disappointed in it. I wished your video had been around earlier. Just lovely sounding, and even looking, violins. The playing wasn't bad either hehe. I do wish that for me money were not an impediment. I'm not talking a Guarneri or a Strad but something up to $50,000 would take me from my $5000 old 19C German fiddle which, truth to be told is nothing to sneeze at, but oh, how I'd love to be able to go to that further step.

    • @thelionneverroars1570
      @thelionneverroars1570 5 лет назад

      I'm not Ester, but when buying your first Violin you'll want something that's affordable within your price range depending on how long you'll be playing. If you want one with a decent sound for an intermediate level player, the price for a good instrument starts around $1000. Student class, such as ones used in school orchestras are around $600. Whatever you do, don't buy a cheap Amazon violin unless it is from another reputable seller, and if so, buy from them directly. Make sure you have recommendations on how things should be from your teacher or someone else you trust with knowing the instrument. Also make sure you go to a trustworthy shop, such as an actual music store. I personally would go to a store that purely specializes in stringed instruments.
      Make sure you try the instrument for yourself rather than buy one online, even if you like it. Something might not feel right or work with you exactly.
      If you are just going to try and start playing the violin, don't buy one right away. There's no guarantee you'll even like the instrument. So before you spend a decent amount for money, ex. $500+, try and rent one for a while first.
      Once you know you like the instrument and have a desire to keep playing, then you can invest your money into a good intermediate class or higher, but if you're starting out, I'd reccomend renting.

    Hi Esther ,now I’m playing a beginner violin but now I’m a intermediate student ,I would like to upgrade my violin but it seems that it’s very hard to learn to tune my current violin using pegs (I usually tune my violin using 4 fine tuners before practicing)because when I try the violin on in shop it only have 1 fine tuner how ? It’s a bit harder to tune my violin using pegs.

    • @thelionneverroars1570
      @thelionneverroars1570 5 лет назад +1

      Always get a violin that has 4 tuners if your not a professional or semi professional. It's easier.
      Student class beginner instruments are often quite a bit cheaper and are almost always harder to tune just because of its quality.
      When I used to have my rental years ago, I couldn't tune it myself. With my new violin, I can tune my violin without an issue.
      If your pegs are stuck, make sure you get a peg balm for when you replace your strings next, it makes them easier to turn.
      But please make sure you do learn how to properly tune with the pegs eventually, because it's a skill you will need in the future if you keep playing

    • @theoverunderthinker
      @theoverunderthinker 5 лет назад

      some full-size (4/4) violins have different scale lengths slightly (the vibrating length of the string) and body dimensions, so even among 4/4 violins they are not EXACTLY the same size, they have some variation, so if you have small hands you choose something that will work with that and challenge that all the time.

    Respectfully I completely disagree on your assessment method. First, eliminate all instruments that have a nasal or boxy sound. Even some very expensive fiddles have this unfortunate quality. Next, play medium but not loud notes with a little vibrato on each string through two octaves of scales SLOWLY, and listen out for notes that suddenly give undue volume, or a "Waa" sound or rasping sound. You should aim for a consistent tone all the way up each string. Then do some slow legato piece with string crossings and check that again there are no suddenly bad toned or harsh-toned notes that stand out like a sore thumb. Then check that each string has enough volume and body (you'll often find the G string is great but the D string is weak and feeble). Finally check that the E string can produced a sweet sound as well as a bright one, and that the G string does not choke when you get into higher positions on it. Your test playing was very brash and over-played. You need to calm down and play a simple piece with a good tone, which is much better for assessment than thrashing around with randomn phrases.
