VVD raises the confidence level of his teammates and strikes fear in the opponents. He peaked quite late, as he had health problems in his early 20's. Very unfair to see him miss one whole year of football because of a reckless fool.
Makes a better story if he helps the team win the treble on his returning season though innit? Thinking of that is what helped me get through the entirety of last season without breaking down lmao

I've been going the game, home and away for 32 years and this fella is the best Centre Half I've seen at our club. My Dad always said "Hansen and Lawrenson are the best son" now I can say "Virgil is the best son".
That just gave me goosebumps. Thank you and YNWA!
It's hard to compare generations. The professionalism of the sport today is a world away from how it was it Hanson/Lawrenson era. The Trophy haul of that 70's/80's Liverpool team is staggering.

I had ACL reconstruction just 3 weeks ago and like the man says, the realisation that you've suddenly gone from very active (climber, mountaineer, cyclist, runner) to doing nothing is tough... and then finding out post-op that you still can't do much for 12 weeks until the graft is strong and ready... it's frustrating and hard to take but it's inspirational to see how our heroes share the same difficulties and how resilience gets them and us through.
Hope to do a stadium tour in October and then watch a game from the Sir Kenny stand so I can witness in person his recovery and the benefits of resilience :)
Wish you all the best with your recovery. I've had a string of injuries for over a year now that have kept me from running my usual 13K every second night. I just did my first 3K run the other day. Tiny steps, but positive mindset is definitely key.
@@scubabunny81 wow crazy to see how I'm in your exact predicament, I've had constant injury issues for the past year and a half, but I just kicked a soccer ball at full power for the first time since my first injury, and I am close to sprinting at full speed! Good luck on your road to recovery!

As someone who tore his MCL in his knee in the most important year of his soccer career, this is pretty inspirational. I was in a dark place when I was recovering, but I kept my head up and stuck with the team. I was elected captain the next year. We grow from the hardships.. just like Virgil did. YNWA

But with VVD it's absolutely true. He has absolutely everything. The way he calmly deals with every situation thrown his way and 99 times out of 100 comes out on top with class and elegance is an absolute joy to watch. I've watched him deal with 2 v 1 situations on several occasions and there's not a moment where you think he's not got it under control. That is amazing. Astounding. He's the only defender who I have consistently looked forward to watching in a game more than any striker or attacker. He is the best. Makes the game look ridiculously easy.
He really is the whole package!!! Love him with us.
