Great video - installed a set this past weekend. They can be a challenge. The three bolts that the rails hang from - mine did not come with nubs at all. Rather than using your "rubber grommet" trick, I used a stainless steel screw and installed one per bolt as a stop to prevent them from spinning when tightening everything up - worked great. Just install the screw about an inch from the slot that the bolt goes in and make sure that it will clear the bracket on the inside of the rail.
Thanks for the video! People on the forum kept saying how much of a PITA these were to install, but I'd still rather do them myself. I ordered these yesterday from the parts department at the local dealership (after she beat the best online price I could find--paying $785+tax). They arrive today, but I won't have time to do the install until the first weekend in June. Thanks for the tips and tricks!!!
aznjeep Install is done!!! Thanks for the tips and tricks, especially using the rubber grommets to act as an anchor for the flag bolts. I think Mopar needs to check their assembly line. My passenger rail was WAY off on the angle of the rear bracket/splash guard thing. I had to bang so much of it back to get the rails to move foward enough to work, and had to really round out the 8 holes along the pinch weld. When the rails were next to each other, I could easily see that the passenger side wasn't the same as the driver side. The driver side went up as-is, with only 1 of the 8 holes in the pinch weld needing to be rounded. Driver side only took me about an hour to put on, while the passenger side took me a day because of all the adjustments I had to make.
Great Video!!!! Thank you!! I just installed the newer version (without the tube step). It was a little different, but many of the "tricks" helped immensely. Much appreciated!!
Excellent video! I really appreciate the tips and tricks you explain. Very thorough video would really help the next person make this difficult installation go much more smoothly. This is a must watch video for anyone considering this install. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the vid, I got half of mine installed. I'm used to working on Aircraft, where if the part doesn't fit, something is wrong. Well these things the have to beat into submission. I also ground off a corner the rear lip, it wasn't the right shape. In the front, does the bracket, that isn't on the back, fit snug against the truck?
they aren't the typical push pins, they are plastic rivets and not designed to be removed. That said, you don't need to reuse them, so it wouldn't matter anyway. That whole plastic trim gets thrown out and replaced by the rock rails.
@@spinxt Thank you! I was concerned about it filling up with mud or dirt through the access holes. I may cover them up anyway and run some silicon around the edges but it's good to know you're happy with yours still.
Gabe Carbajal I certainly think so. As with any vehicle it's perceived value is in the eye of the beholder. For me, it's the only vehicle that fits my lifestyle. It can tow my 5,000lb boat effortlessly, it's very capable off-road, with my roof rack setup I can pack a lot of gear for extended camping trips, and it's luxury enough that I can load up friends for a nice dinner in city. You'd be hard pressed to find another vehicle that does ALL of those things well.
Gabe Carbajal Definitely! I have a 14 Limited 4x4 and it is one of the best vehicles I've owned. I would have gone for the overland but it was a bit out of my budget but the fit and finish is great overall. 4x system is top notch and it has just enough tech options to keep me satisfied w/o being obtrusive.
Gabe Carbajal I have a 15 limited and it's worth every penny. It can tow more, looks better (IMO), and has better fuel econ than that 4 runner. Granted the 4runner is one of the last body on frame "SUVs" on the market which gives a leg up off-road, but for the money, spinxt is right that it's hard to find something that's luxury and capable off road. "frame" and suspension on the WK2 is sourced from Mercedez M class and it runs a ZF trans which is pretty robust and smooth. While I love toyotas, they don't have enough luxury features to compare to the GC.
Never had an issue with the sub heating it up 🤷♂️. It’s been on there for 206,000 and I had the same rails on my previous GC that I drove for 80k miles.
Man...6 years later and these are still too expensive. It’s literally cheaper to destroy your rockers on a trail and just pay a deductible to have insurance fix them. That’s embarrassing
Fair point. I don't like the way the upper seam doesn't fit flush against the body though, along the 12 bolt points, for this price of a factory part, I expected a better fitment. Did you find the same?

I will not be doing any off reading in the GC i just got, but i gotta admit - i like the way those look. Nice Job.

Making any job look good starts with the prep. Good looking job!

Nice video. Would love to have these on my wk2 in the near future. I just wish the prices would come down a little.
Great detailed and informative video. Thank You!
Great job!!
Great video, I wish I'd re-threaded the flag bolts before I did mine.

I don't like the look but you did a great job. I salute you.
Which is recommended, pending the end tap upward or downward?
How much were the rails and how much wojld be a fair price to pay a pro to install them? They look bad ass!
They do make a tool for removing the plastic pins you used a chisel to remove.

Again, it doesn’t matter, they get thrown out
What is your thoughts on how this would look on a white Overland?
Can i put running boards on my 2014 jeep srt??
I just installed mine and I'm wondering about water and dirt intrusion. I thought about filling it with expanding foam, have you had any issues?
N English nope..a little surface rust, but nothing major. I’m at 206,000 miles....

Can those be used as steps?
how many hours did this take u to do?
Are the wk2's worth the money? Looking at a '15 overland. I can't choose between 4 runner and wk2.

Looks good man.
It’s going to be fun when the sun heats that up and you catch your calf getting in/out of the car. Don’t ask how I know
Never had an issue with the sub heating it up 🤷♂️. It’s been on there for 206,000 and I had the same rails on my previous GC that I drove for 80k miles.
How much does this reduce ground clearance
ConditionRed none. They are meant to offer protection for off roading. There are other points that hang lower than the rails.
What was the part number for those rails?
82212157AB. It's a discontinued part.
Man...6 years later and these are still too expensive. It’s literally cheaper to destroy your rockers on a trail and just pay a deductible to have insurance fix them. That’s embarrassing
I wouldn’t do that, those holes are at the lowest point. If you cover them, and water that does get in will have no way getting out .
Fair point. I don't like the way the upper seam doesn't fit flush against the body though, along the 12 bolt points, for this price of a factory part, I expected a better fitment. Did you find the same?
Can you add a link to the item?
Just google the part number
I hope you don't plan on off roading with those street tires...
