That’s actually a great though process, to not over consume certain art in order to be able to create more freely and authentically! You just gave me something to think about, thank you!
That makes a lot of sense. I spend most of my free time consuming stuff other people made, and I almost never actually put anything out because I am so critical of my ideas before I even put them on paper.
As an artist you have to find a balance between consuming and creating art, there are times in life when you feel lost and unable to create, then you find a piece of art that speaks to you and inspires you, now you have to think, what was special about it? Why this piece of art? Which part of it specifically? Through art you can come to understand yourself better, you start to develop your own taste, everyone has different tastes since we all live different lives, and art gives you a chance to figure out your taste and how it relates to who you are, I always believed that to grow as an artist is to grow as a person, which art helps you do.
While I think that you absolutely can experience too much art and impede your own making. I don’t think that's because other people's art somehow dilutes or taints your ability to make art. Instead if you are always experiencing other people’s art, and actually engaging with it you are expending limited energy. And that dialog you have with art I think is important to have your own thoughts. You are not simply spawned in with divine creativity, but that muscle is trained not only by making art. It’s also honed by having that dialog with art.

i agree so so much, we are so influnced by things around us that to think of something creative is becoming raer day by day
