GUYS, DO NOT keep dumping gravel on top of gravel, waste of time, effort and money, get loads of hard core or broken bricks and compact it down with an industrial compactor in dry conditions and get some drainage run offs (shallow channels) or camber the whole thing outwards to drainage to stop heavy rain washing the whole thing away, then finish with a top layer of larger gravel size but it’s going to look good and keep asking advice cos it seems you’ve been given some bad on this driveway
Exactly, they should probably get in contact with a decent landscaping company. They ruts in the ground should not be happening on a brand new driveway 😮
Get a roll of plastic ground mesh, it’s like a roll of heavy plastic 4x4 mesh that acts like reinforcing steel in concrete, It spreads the weight so no ruts form.
Another old wive's tale is about Hedge trees. The more hedge apples the tree has, the harder and snowy the winter will be. Our hedge trees in west central Illinois have been loaded with hedge apples this year. I guess that the deer and squirrels will have food for the winter.
Been in the UK for 11 years. Happened across JTs channel semi recently? I am now on the books to move back HOME to VIRGINIA and it makes me so excited. Thank You both for keeping the American alive in me recently. Can't wait to see pond fishing/ outdoor camping or LORT knows what you both have in the works. Thank You Both.
Guys, you really need to get that driveway sorted- just a single size gravel on top of mud will just keep on sinking. You are going to need a good 300mm (12 inches) depth of a "Type 1" material (sorry, am in the UK so don't know the US equivalent) that is well compacted. Apart from that, looking good!
I have a dark brown cocker spaniel, and live in the countryside, you can't see him almost immediately we get out of the house, so when we go out in the dark we have a rechargeable dog collar for him, which is either fully lit or flashing!
U need some road grade terram, roll and compact the stuff thats down now, and fill those pits u have at the moment, then put some woven geotextile terram down, then put another decent layer, probably 100mm or 4 inch of gravel and roll it in,
I love the house updates. Also like any video where Maggie and Charlie are involved. Also you putting up your Christmas decorations video would be good.
cheap way to do what u want is 6 ich of 50 mil to act as base put 3 inch of 20 mil on top roll it in or drive up n down after some rain and its moved a bit 6 inch of 5 mil pea shingle , , this is how romans did roads and it allows the rain to dran off as ur drive is higher than the earth around it , water allways goes down hill
Hardcore rubble should have been laid on the driveway first, then the gravel put on top. That would prevent the gravel sinking and cost less in gravel.
Normally in the UK we would put down that gravel (or as we call it type 1) and compact it with a compactor to make a solid base. Are you not putting concrete pile to put the 'trailer' onto? 5'2" lol. if it's that dark have you ever looked at the night sky? maybe buy a Telescope to observer the heavens. get the dogs some light up collars. I thought that might have been Mistletoe!!
Loved the folklore with the seeds . can you set up the cornell bird app on your phone and show us what birds visit your patch of land .? looks gord for birding judging by the mixed woodland .
Love to watch your videos, so much is different from where you live to here in Yorkshire. I'm not sure we would be allowed to kill the moles with our dogs here. So much land too and even a pond, would need to be very wealthy here to own
I thought you had to lay a layer of hard core first then gravel , its good its a steep drive so the water can run off and you shouldn't get bogged in . Love the updates, your doing well keep going.
Log the old trees. Get some sacks and sell sacks of logs to someone with an open fire, barbecue, fire pit etc. Make a fire pit for yourselves to sit out on an evening. Not like you don't have the space lol
Hey guys, do you own a head torch. Used for camping. They are great for seeing where you are going in unlit areas. We go out to the woodpile in winter always with the torch it lights the whole yard.
Jeez, if you’re cold now then you best get more warm clothes if those “spoons” are correct. It’ll beno time n your new home will be here. Excited for you too. 👍🏻👏👏😍❣
Hi to you both, are you doing a septic tank or are you hooking up to a mains sewer and how far is there a water main from your house pitch, but good luck on the house project 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
The gravel driveway has been done so badly. Either do it all again properly or you will forever have problems with it. Cheese and rice, they must be useless builders if they don't know how to construct a proper driveway. 🙄
So you guys are not going out at night because of the coyotes, but you will let the dogs out to pee. I think the coyotes are more likely to attack your little dogs than you. 🤔
I know its the dogs nature to hunt and kill the wildlife but it turns my stomach hearing the little critters screeching in pain and fear. I really would enjoy the videos better if this wasn't included. Sorry but us city folk ain't cut out for hunting and killing. Love the channel and hope all goes well in your up-coming project. x

@anta3612 The roots of oak trees are shallower than deep but their root systems spread a lot which can obstruct a lot of foundations, pavements, water lines, fences, and so on. Moreover, the oak tree’s root system grows pretty quickly and it can cause cracks and tears.
Just get the guy back and get him to do the job properly.
You’re paying for it.

What about taste testing UK Christmas food, such as Christmas cake, Mince Pies, Pigs in Blankets, Christmas Pudding. Keep up the great work
For the driveway you should have used a (hardcore) brick rubble base and topped it with gravel
Ps. Save some of the good trees-branches for the pond
I was thinking the same, dumping loose gravel on soggy mud with no drainage is doomed to fail😂
Just buy the light up collars for the pups when then go out in the dark.

At least with those small trees cut down, you'll have a nice open area to push all the snow off your driveway into 👍
Drainage! So important as water can be so damaging to your pad and gravel driveway.
By your front door have a light as well that turns on when you walk past trust me so handy when you have shopping etc

The Coyotes get a dinner bell?

You should sell the wood, winter drawing in, people will Need it
Your new best friend - gravel! It's amazing how the land eats it up.
