- In this video I take a look at my Nano Reef Tank which I build from a Fluval EVO 13.5 gallon saltwater kit. Today We are going to do a quick update on the aquarium and I also ask your opinion on some upgrades on equipment for the nano reef.

As my wife and I are new to the hobby, since December last year. This is our main go to channel to learn about this amazing hobby. We have two clown fish,royal gramma,two yellow watchman goby's,pistol shrimp,red fire shrimp and a bangaii cardinal fish. The tank is a 50 gallon acrylic Sea Clear tank,Fluval 406 canister filter, Fluval Hang on filter,2 preset heaters,hydra auto top off, lights are current usa. Oh and a pink and white dwarf feather duster.

I think the tunze nano ato is the best. Best pump and auto shut off after 1.5 min. Safe and reliable. Very quiet I never even notice I have it. Keeps my water stable I love it.
Hey mad hatter. Another great video. I started following your channel because I have the same reef tank (fluval evo 13.5). I’d like to see a video on the top 10 corals you could add to this tank with stock lighting and where/how they should be placed. I know this is a popular tank and would help a lot of beginners out.

I have the Hydor ATO but have an issue with what pump(preferably 1/4") to use. Thank has a head height of 5 about feet. It's the Nuvo SR-60, any info would be great. Thanks

do you do post processing to the videos of the tank to make the lighting look white? I have a Fluval Evo V and whenever I take a picture/video on any camera it always looks blue even with the normal light setting...

Glad to hear challenges with NRTs are universal regardless of experience level. Since NRTs are surely a gateway-tank, Besides ATO, I’ll bet chemistry struggles from not using RODI water is common amongst NRTs.

Check out nanobox lighting it is pretty awesome light on my 5 gallon SPS tank. I got the smallest available for the 5 gallon evo but they have larger sizes

Do I need to run a wave maker with no corals? I just have one clown now, nut plan on two and maybe a goby like you or a tailspot blenny or yellow clown goby,maybe a cleaner shrimp but I thought 4 might be pushing it! I have same space as you.
Try out the Current USA Marine Orbit 18” light, it comes with a controller for $100 on amazon and you can get a good looking holder for it for an extra $30, it comes with a controller which allows a lot of customization. I use it on my fluval 13.5 and my LPS are showing good growth, haven’t tried any SPS though so it’d be cool to see if you had success growing them with a very well priced LED fixture.. just a thought!

if i could weigh in on your shrimp selection, id recommend you get a fire shrimp. it would really make the tank pop! definitely would compliment your goby and clowns colors.
I use a Neptune systems auto top off it’s AMAZING well worth the 200! Never lets me down
A good top ten might be a top ten ways to beat algae. If you’ve been in the reef hobby for a week or 30 years you’ve seen and had algae to battle. So a guide to prevent or deal with would be great. Featuring equipment like tas and refugiums and algae reactors.

I would strongly suggest to plug the hole in the second chamber and either build a media basket for chamber one or purchase the Intank media basket for chamber one. You will have better control of the water level.

Do you get enough blue from that light? Lots have said not enough blue and looks very white on this youtube.

I know I’m late but Radion is probably the best for colors in mop but I have the more affordable AI prime which grows my softies, lps, and sps great

Top ten best tank sizes?
I turned the fluval 15 gal into a nano reef system and its doing great. I watched many of your videos to figure out how to stock it. I ended up getting 3 coral frags, 1 cleaner shrimp, 5 snails, 2 clown fish and a purple striped dottyback. Any info on the purple dotty back you could give it be appreciated. Fluval makes a nice marine light that can grow many coral. if you hit up etsy theres a guy that makes 3d printed parts for the fluval tanks.

Hi, I hope you are doing well, I have a few questions about that tank, my son is 8 years old and he love fish and animals and we are both interested on a reef tank like that one, Do you have an estimate how much water is going to the baffle, what is the GPH for the return pum, and what is the GPH on your powerhead ? Thank you for your videos
Ive been told by my lfs that having a clown fish in this tank isnt a good idea, but ive seen people have success with having more than one in at a time, would you say to get one. im regular with water changes and basically brought this tank for a clownfish.

To be honest, I need to get my butt in gear with the nano tank. it's been on the back burner for awhile. I've had the stock lights on the tank ATM.

Also on lighting didn't see an "other" option, so thought I would just comment. I have some TrueLumen Pro lights on my 14 gallon biocube I used for a frag tank and the corals grow. I have 2 white strips and one blue. Easy to make some mounts with some acrylic strips.
Hahhaha... both tanks are in need of a re-up on the clean up crew.

Sexy shrimp are actually great cleaners for left over food and I've ever seen mine eat hair algae to the point where it's non-existent in my Pico reef. Unfortunately they do eat some corals if they are not fed. So far they have not eaten my nems or mushroom corals. They also leave my seat fans alone.
