How To Wash Your Car: Two Bucket Method with Meguiar's

- One of the most important parts of car detailing and car care is washing, but washing with the wrong products, techniques, or accessories you can remove your wax protection or even create swirls and scratches. However, with the two bucket method and a few simple tips you can make sure you are washing your car properly to help keep it looking better with the most shine short and long term.
Before washing:
1. Make sure you are working in the shade and that the paint is cool to the touch.
2. Never use a household detergent or dish soap to clean as these are degreasers that will strip away polishes and waxes, and promote oxidation.
If you don’t have a lot of dirt on your car or access to a hose a great alternative to traditional washing is Meguiar’s Ultimate Waterless Wash and Wax. Spray and gently wipe with a fresh, clean high quality microfiber towel like Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels, Then, follow with a second clean microfiber for your final wipe. Never push down too aggressively and keep flipping your towel to a clean portion so you don’t create swirls.
Always be sure to select a premium automotive car wash soap that’s pH balanced like Meguiar’s Ultimate Wash and Wax. Mix in a clean bucket with the proper dilution and then fill a second clean bucket with just water. This will be your rinse bucket and help get debris off your wash mitt. Also, consider using Meguiar’s Grit Guard at the bottom of your rinse bucket to further reduce the possibility of creating swirls.
Evaluate you wheels:
- If they aren’t very dirty you can wash them with your car wash soap.
- If you’re wheels are dirty determine the wheel type, use the appropriate wheel cleaner, and follow the directions carefully.
Rinse the whole vehicle thoroughly to get as much dirt of the paint as you can. Always select premium accessories, Meguiar’s highly recommends using microfiber accessories to wash and dry the paint as microfiber removes more product quicker than cotton terry and is more gentle. With a high quality wash mitt like Meguiar’s Microfiber Wash Mitt begin washing from the top of the vehicle down. Be sure to keep your wash mitt clean at all times. Once you’ve washed and rinsed the whole car give it a final rinse by taking the nozzle off the hose to flood the paint allowing the water to flow across it. This will promote more sheeting action that will reduce how much water there is to dry and demote from water spotting. Dry off any remaining water with a soft absorbent drying towel like Meguiar’s Water Magnet Microfiber Drying Towel. If possible, wash your car at least once a week to remove loose contaminants before they can bond to the paint.
Washing regularly with the two bucket method and using the right products, techniques and accessories will greatly reduce the risk of creating swirls and scratches, will preserve your wax protection, and help to keep your paint looking its best with the most shine.

I'm working at a car wash and I need help. I'm going to try the two bucket method because I think I'm leaving soap too long before the rinse... I'm not sure but one bucket for one side for soap one bucket for quick rinse that's what I'll try next

I have always used meguiars cleaner wax without washing my car just remove the dust and polish away leaves it looking like new..best part is that you don't have to worry about those little water marks when you roll down your windows...
*I think i need to install Meguiars tap and then use a meguiars water pipe with a meguiars shampoo and then a meguiars micofibre cloth and after that meguiars air and sunlight to dry the car later on meguiars dirt and debris will make my car dirty and meguiars rain and meguiars windstorm also
Lol. I do agree that they have wayyyyy to many products. They work wonders though. Microfiber I just get from the dollar store, same with the buckets. I buy the shampoo, cleaner wax and wheel cleaner from meguiars and that’s it.

We certainly cannot vouch for the safety and effectiveness of an unknown wash mitt but our recommendation would be our X3002 Microfiber Wash Mitt.
I recently bought the product. But i don't have any access to water hose since i live in an apartment. Can i still wash with just water buckets?
The tradtional 2 bucket wash method described in this video requires rinsing from a water source like a hose. We might suggested checking out our Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax. Many users who do not have access to water will take their car to a DIY pressure washer type car wash, rinse the car, then use our Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax. It's not required for use with the Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax but it can speeds things up.
honestly idk y ppl are afraid of soap, after you wash the car you would apply wax anyways i've been using dish soap in dilute amounts and waxing at the end and my car still shines
Afraid would probably be strong term but it is counterproductive in most cases as it can strip your wax protection. It also has long term negative effects on the paint if used often.

Yes any of our soaps can be used with a foam cannon. They are technically designed to be diluted in a bucket with water, for a standard two bucket wash method, but they all will work, some better than others, in a foam cannon. At this time we do not have a soap designed specific for use in a foam cannon.

Cars are so easy to wash. Wash a truck from top to bottom please. This is the most exhausting thing to do.
Trucks are lame and slow tho.

The second bucket reduces the risk of carrying contaminates that are in your bucket from reapply wash to your vehicle that scratch your vehicle's paint.
