What I love about nishiki is how he actually has a real reason to be an antagonist, instead of just “oh I’m a bad guy” he actually has a troubled past and seeks to fix it, he isn’t just evil for the sake of being evil he has a purpose that he wants to fulfill.
Also worth noting that Yakuza 1 came out first before Zero. The devs did well in giving Nishiki a proper background and personality which amplified the impact of Kiwami

The Prequel trilogy was not a great display of Anakin due to bad dialogue and George Lucas reckless directing but Clone Wars (and maybe even Legends) Anakin was truly a great character

Really felt sorry for Nishiki. Everything got taken away from him, constantly tormented over not measuring up to his brother, and was always being played by higher ups. He wanted to prove himself, but destiny kept bashing him down in the dirt.
I'm currently on chapter 10 of 0 right now and I don't mind the spoilers at all but Nishiki was just blinded by hate and I can't blame the guy Edit: okay nevermind Nishiki just wanted the 10 billion yen and money but I still feel bad for him since he wanted to lead the Tojo Clan and have Haruka.
He wasn't just blinded by hate, everyone around him keeps comparing him to Kiryu and it made him feels even more miserable considering he was already dealing with his insecurities from his incapability to lead a yakuza family, because up till that moment everyone just saw him as "that guy who sticks with Kiryu all the time" instead of "Akira Nishikiyama, a yakuza member".
I don't think nishiki was really meant to be a Yakuza. I think Shimano said that somewhere. He was too insecure and just needed to be treated right, which the Yakuza would not do.
