  • As we look at the climactic chapter of Exodus 19 this week, we come face to face with the holiness of God that causes us to both rejoice and tremble as God's people because of the great power and majesty that we see! There truly is no one like our God and, as a result, He is greatly to be praised!

This channel popped up in my Feed and the Exodus 19 discussion caught my attention. Can I offer an alternative view?
First can we determine what covenant the Hebrews were under just prior to Exodus 19? Exodus 20 is when the Law of Moses was given which is actually the Old Covenant. However were there any other covenants God made with people prior to the Law of Moses? You had the Adamic covenant, the Noahatic covenant then the Abrahamic covenant. So which covenant were the Hebrew people living under during the time of captivity, Passover(when they left Egypt) up until Exodus 19/20? Hint: it was the Old Covenant because it had not been given yet. So they had to be under the Abrahamic covenant...right? Now what was the Abrahamic?
While the Hebrews were leaving Egypt they constantly murmured. Is murmuring a sin? Many would say yes but in actuality the Law had not been given yet so they literally had no knowledge of what sin actually was. Yet every time they murmured.....Red Sea crossing, thirst, hungry for meat, etc He blessed them without any issues of murmuring/sinning/complaining.
And then they arrived at Mt Sinai. Exodus 19:8 they replied "All that the Lord has spoken we will do" Now I've heard some commentators suggest this reply was more of a prideful reply like "of course we can do this. Just tell us what you want us to do." Did God's tune change after this? All of a sudden "do not touch this mountain."
Now comes Exodus 20 and the giving of the Law. And what is the first things the Hebrews do after the Law if given? Golden Calf. So right away they failed and 3000 of them died. Yet right before that they murmured and murmured and God blessed them. Do you not see the contrast between being under the Abrahamic covenant and now the Mosaic covenant, i.e the Old Covenant?
So ask yourself why was the Mosaic Law given? Is it possible at Exodus 19 the Hebrews exchanged covenants?
