I viewed so many videos to make a Roman Shades for my bathrooms, but I hadn't viewed yours. I used a fabric panel with a soaring eagle as my windows are 26 inches x 40 inches. The panel was 24 x 44. I used matching fabric on the sides to make the panel wider and the top/bottom for my hems. I also used the multilayer insulating fabric instead of a liner. First one I ever made. I didn't use dowels and mine was an inside mount. I am happy with the result but see areas to improve on. Nice idea on managing the cords. I may try that on the next one instead of a cleat.
Love your detailed instructions which were linked from a sewing website. Fifteen years ago I made 5 insulated Roman shades for our renovated family room. Same idea with using insulated lining. But I love watching you do this on You Tube. It makes it far easier to follow directions! Thanks, and they look amazing!
Love your video! To extend the dowels, consider putting the dowel pieces to be extended in a vise and drill a hole in the center of the dowel, keeping the hole straight ( if you or a friend has a drill press this will be easier) about 3/4 inch into it with a drill bit that is the size of a wooden kebob skewer (you can tape the bit to know when to stop). Cut a 1.5 inch piece of skewer and put glue on it and dowels, put skewer into one dowel and then put other onto it. Tite Bond 2 Wood glue is my favorite.
Love the design! I have been searching the internet for different ways of making Roman Shades and yours is by far the best! I love that you sewed in a back liner as well. Thanks!
You did a perfect job! Thinking about skipping the dowel rods though. My project has 3 small windows that are less than 2 ft wide. The rings should be enough for my needs. You explain things very well. These tips along with my shade making book should yield pleasant results. Thanks for sharing.
Great tutorial. One thing to keep in mind for those who live in places with intense sunlight. Plastic rings break or wear down after a while. Using brass rings increases the lifespan of your Roman blind. I'm surprised your dowels were so short. Most dowels in DIY shops are 48".
You know when you were adding the trim and fringe I wasn't sure how that'd turn out but it looks great and just a bit more fun for a little girls room, well done! I have to make some on the boat and I'm feeling encouraged, thanks.
Loved the Roman shade video! I am making it right now ~ have had the fabric for 2 years. You have given me the courage to do it! Hope it turns out as well as yours. Just not sure how much additional length of lining fabric to add to accomodate the dowel pockets!
Well explained. I'm from India and will definitely try to make one. I hope I can enquire for more details if I get stuck in the middle of this project.
Love your style and tutorial!! I also ordered my fabric from spoon flower and I’m so excited and nervous to make my first one. I also have questions on the dimensions... sadly my windows are super wide but short and the largest fabric I could order was 56” (49” window). Gonna give it a whirl tomorrow and see what I come up with. God bless ya sister and keep bein awesome ❤️
I made this up to point of running the string. I have 3 rows of shade rings and 3 eye hooks at top of board. If I understand, there are separate strings starting from bottom of each row that goes up and across to the eye hook to the left eye hook and down.. The middle strings starts at bottom plastic ring up to middle eye hook and to the left top eye hook and down . The left string starts at bottom up to left eye hook and back down left side. There are 3 separate strings all ending on left bottom side. Is that correct?
This is great and plan to use your instructions but due to your fast forwarding of the ring-tying part I don’t understand how to do that. Will keep researching.
I'm using a 1x2 piece of lumber so they only stick out about 1.5-inches! But you can control this by using a different size piece of wood and a larger L bracket if you want them to come away from the window more.
Ok I am confused as to the hardware on the top of the shade . I see 4 little things attached to your board but you only show the two on the one end, the pulley n the lock thing. What is on the other end and in the middle?
I want to make Roman shades for my toddlers room but I think it will look weird from the outside b/c my other windows that are visible to others have vinyl blinds
When you sew those dowel pockets into the liner fabric, did you account for the roughly 6 inches you’ll be losing in height or do you need to factor that into the measurements? Or does it not matter because the front fabric is larger? Great tutorial!
I played around with scraps to figure out the width of the liner as well as the wrap on each side. My windows are 36" wide (inside mount). I cut my fabric 4" wider than the opening (2" on each side instead of 5 1/2" on each side) and I cut my blackout fabric 36" wide. That gives me 1" seam allowance and a 1" wrap of the curtain fabric. (36" + 2" + 2" = 40" for the fabric, leaving 1" on each side to wrap and 1" on each side for seam allowance; liner math is 36" - 1" - 1" = 34" + 1" + 1" for seam allowance = 36"). I hope this makes sense?
I hope you get back with me soon. I thought I understood your directions but I don’t. I have my fabric laid out ready to cut and then I reread directions and watched the video one more time. Your directions say add 4” to either side. Do you mean a total of 8” or do you mean 2” each side. The video said 5 1/2”. Is that 11” total or 2 3/4 each side. Directions said 10” to length but video said 4” to top and 3” to bottom. That’s only 7”. Please help because I am wasting precious sewing time. Thanks
Sorry! You need numerous cords depending upon how many columns of rings you use. The cords tie to the bottom ring on your shade, run up through the rings and then along the top of the shade to the cord pulley.
It looks great but you can’t launder this huh? The ones I bought before were removable and can be gently washed. The thin poles come out actually and top is not fixed like that but your design can’t be removed.. It would be great if you can design a Roman shade that is relatively simple to make but also can be cleaned.
you shouting.... whyyyy??? its so hard to concentrate on because of it. and then on 3:37 your voice gone.... and then you shouting again.... and what is "right direction" exactly?

Use magnets.

Yep! Totally would work! Thanks!
Awesome tutorial I love how you explain everything instead of just playing music
I try to! Thanks!
I have made three so far with your directions, was really easy. Hanging was more challenging. Getting ready to make another for my kitchen.
Great video, you did a great job of explaining, but I wish you showed us how they worked when installed.
Love the design! I have been searching the internet for different ways of making Roman Shades and yours is by far the best! I love that you sewed in a back liner as well. Thanks!
starting a new hobby for myself & i will be trying this ,,i love it
Hi Charlotte:) this video is fantastic, thank you very much😊 I am just getting everything together to make mine x
Love these! No I’ve not made them but I’m going to now!! Thanks!
This is amazing, I have been thinking and thinking how am I going to make Roman shades and now I can thank you sooooo much. Haha i love you
Aw thanks so much for explaining what's outside and inside mount, a lot of other videos had me mixed up😳

So you wouldn’t actually need the rods? This is the first one I’ve watched. Want to make some but don’t see that well! The strings are intimidating 😬

Good to know! On both the rings and looking for longer dowels!
Thank you for your suggestion
I'll use the brass rings
Thanks for taking the time to explain! Beautiful work - your daughter’s a lucky gal!
Thanks so much!
This is the best video i ever seen about Roman shades.. thank you so much for the detailed video... you and ur work both Are beautiful
You know when you were adding the trim and fringe I wasn't sure how that'd turn out but it looks great and just a bit more fun for a little girls room, well done!
I have to make some on the boat and I'm feeling encouraged, thanks.
Thanks! I love adding a little extra flare in a kids room! :)
These blinds are so beautiful and welll made. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks so much!

Very nice end product. would have loved to see it pulled into form.
You make it look so simple!
Absolutely awesome shade!! Great tutorial also!
Thank yoU!
Thank you so much for this video, I have been looking to see how to make these thank you again your awesome!!!
best tutorial I watched. How would you mount an inside window frame? I just cant wrap my head around that.
Wow! You did an excellent job, and I can't wait to use your tutorial to make my own! Thanks!
Love it, I will start my project based on your video, wish me luck ^^
I Love them. Nice job!
Thank you!

Such a beautiful job and Ty's4 sharing with me and Facebook family and friends.

Correct!

Cool video! Very thorough!
U did great. I’m going give it a try.
No I’ve never sewed one but I’m going to try. One question....how do you remove curtain to wash.
Hi! If you need to be able to wash, I'd probably attach to the front of the board with velcro for easy removal?
Great tutorial. Thanks so much. I'm trying to figure out how far the shades stick out from the window frame...can we get a side view??
I'm using a 1x2 piece of lumber so they only stick out about 1.5-inches! But you can control this by using a different size piece of wood and a larger L bracket if you want them to come away from the window more.
Oh, is this "cheat sheet" one you made or one you referenced from another publication?
Ok I am confused as to the hardware on the top of the shade . I see 4 little things attached to your board but you only show the two on the one end, the pulley n the lock thing. What is on the other end and in the middle?
There are four eye hooks on the underside of the mount to string the cord through. And then the lock/ pulley on one side.
How much did all materials cost?
So cute! Love this!
Beautiful
Thank you!

I left excess fabric in the liner to account for the dowel pockets, but ultimately hemmed both once the shades were mostly assembled!
At Charlotte's House great! Thank you💕 !!
Very nice blinds, you looked beautiful I'm new to your channel. 🤗
I know that won’t be as easy as you claim to be, but I’ll try my best . Thank you for being so nice
to your followers 😟😟😟😟
I meant the fabric being wider than the liner.
How much wider do you cut the liner than the shade fabric? You mention you intentionally make it wider but don't say how much wider.
Wish you would show the shade going up and down :/
I don't understand how to run the cord, and you didn't show that😥. Other than that, really helpful 🤗.

Super mais j'aurais souhaité en français

Filming is erratic, not good instructions
Thanks, Louise, for your helpful comment.
@@AtCharlottesHouse There is always that one!
