    Being born with a disability gives you such a different perspective on God in regards to Creation and His purpose for man. I was born with Infant Hydrocephalus and Cerebral Palsy, all my life family members have said "If only you were normal", it hurt until I realized God made me this way for a reason. When I feel depressed I recall the words of Job:For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.

      It was your choice to jump in front of a train. God does not control every move you make like a puppeteer. So He chose to save your life but he didn't choose to save 3,000 lives in 9/11? I don't get that.

      @@destiniedee How did you get over there? She merely said she has learned how to walk by faith not by sight due to the fact that she is not distracted by sight, like the sighted world is. Most of us are sighted, and we are too easily led around by our eyes. We judge people on how they look. God judges the heart. Well, a blind person will be more likely to judge closer to the character, than ever by "sight" as that is not their main way of perception. And if that is a gift from God, which she is saying for her is, should we not acknowledge it? I do! I think that's wonderful. Shouldn't we celebrate with her, rather than try to drive her down by saying things like you said, seemingly claiming what she wrote is NOT to the glory of God, but really to run Him down? No. I don't think so. Sorry you had that reaction. You do not have to envy the blind. Pray to have God give you her outlook on life! If only we all rejoiced in our weaknesses as she has, just like Paul, the Apostle.
      I hope that helps you understand what she was driving at.

    When i was about 7 years old, i lost sight in one eye due to exposure to electrocution. Since then i have felt like a failure and no confidence at all. Though born in a Christian family, my siblings teased me for wearing glasses as they did were not so close to God. My parents did not know how to deal with it as we were in a difficult financial situation plus a big family of six people. As i grew up, i've always felt rejected and lonely. I've faced challenges with school sports, reading the blackboard and hence my grades started falling down even upto failure. somehow i managed to complete my education and have a decent day job. But because of this secret disability i have always felt like a failure till now.. i have been even scared to enter into a dating relationship thinking that the guy might reject me for this. But after listening to this message after 28 years... i feel accepted by God. and will be confident hence forth.

    i have to thank John Piper for these words. I was born blind, and I know how kind God has been to me and I firmly believe that He has a plan for me and will give me a future and a hope, and He didn't make me blind to harm me as stated in Jeremiah 29:11. I have had people come up and want to pray over me for my healing, but that to me would imply that I'm sick, and i don't think of myself as sick. I am able do most things anyone else can, I just can't see. I still serve God in the church in the ways I feel He has chosen. So again, thank you John Piper for these words.

      What troubles me so much about human suffering as a result of physical deformity, disability or sickness, is that in the future, some of these afflictions won't likely be as serious a concern to many people. A simple example would be how during the times of the voyages of Christopher Columbus, many of his crew developed a condition known as scurvy and died. It is said that millions of sailors suffered and died from this malady, from the 15th to the 19th century. Scurvy is the result of a severe deficiency of vitamin C. Fast forward to the 21st century and I can go into my local Dollar store and buy a bottle of vitamin C for a buck. I can go into the grocery store and buy 5 lemons for a dollar. Something so inexpensive, and yet millions died because they didn't have access to vitamin C or more specifically, fruits that contain it. I'm not saying that it'll be the same with blindness, but we already know that they have ways of restoring at least partial sight to blind rodents using gene therapy. For some reason the transition to where such treatments are ultimately available to most Americans is a rather slow one. I'm sure you would know more about this than I do. Anyway on a more positive note, this is just something to considerate at times when we participate in mundane things such as eating a piece of fruit. I think it's important for us to learn to be grateful for what we actually DO have as opposed to what we lack. There's always a plan and a purpose for the works done by God, whose wisdom far exceeds the brightest of human minds. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for having Mercy upon us each and every day. God bless you too brother.

For a VERY long time, my health issues were looked at as "punishment", "a test that needed to be prayed over", "a weakness" because that's the message of the Church my community heard. As a result, I believed them about myself and suffered mental torment and pain trying to understand why. But if someone is in pride God will pass over them he can’t use them at all really . And they’re are a lot of people who are puffed up that’s why God don’t use them unless they go low God can exalt them up that’s the only way . It's awful when one is born with a disorder in the front lobe of the brain that no one can see. Between poor coordination, emotional responses, weird tics. I have come to realize that it's not condemnation from God, however many churches and majority of our world's society treat it like a witch hunt. Still yet today we have made much progress, but there is much more to be made. To all those who have a disability, have long suffering to those who don't understand. They will never truly understand unless they go through it themselves. That's okay, because we all, disabled in one way or another, or even the normal, have our own road to travel. Every single being are truly made in God's image. The important thing is to remember to love your neighbor as yourself.

    Born a normal kid. Has a normal childhood. Loves god, never misses church, and always participates in church activities. Refrains from sin and does everything to please God. Gets involved in an accident at age 13, loses one eye and gets scars which deform his pretty face. A life of hell begins. Wherever he goes people look at him. Kids laugh at him, his friends stop hanging out with him, he gets withdrawn, anxiety kicks in , depression is the order of the day. He asks god why and as usual god stays silent, he prays for a miracle and as always god says no. he gets mad at God, he sees no reason to live and commits suicide.
    It’s sad how a Christian who hasn’t seen shit will come up and justify god’s reasons for allowing the accident to wreck the boy’s life. (oh. And did the all knowing God know that allowing that accident would destroy that boy and still allowed it because he loved the boy so much???)

    Sometimes we just must remember that God is only, always, continually good.
    I had a soft-tissue sarcoma. MD Anderson helped cure me; but they have no idea what caused it. Ir was in my DNA, apparently.
    A terrible thing, maybe; but it helped heal relationships and made me more serious about my faith. Maybe I'll find out later about the purpose; but when we're in Heaven, I doubt we'll care about it. We'll just be joyful to be in the presence of our Savior.
    Psalm 139:13-16 (ESV)
    For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
    I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
    Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.
    My frame was not hidden from you,
    when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
    Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
    in your book were written, every one of them,
    the days that were formed for me,
    when as yet there was none of them.

      Well, you have to understand, there is always a reason for everything, and you may be down now and think “well, God is not doing this. Why do I not have arms and legs, or anything that relates with disabilities. God doesn’t love me and is punishing me.” I want to let you know, that’s not true. God has design a destiny for you and God makes no mistakes. You may have a disability for a reason. It isn’t necessarily mean God is doing bad things to you, but simply, God is showing others that God can do the impossibles, and is using you because you’re special to him. I have a disability as well, but my parents never gave up and God was always with me, and I overcome it. God is a loving God, and wants you to know that he can help you overcome the impossibles in your life if you let him into your heart. God bless you

    Feels almost wrong to comment here as I don't have a diagnosed disability, but for most of my adult life I have struggled with deep insecurities and obsessive thoughts. It has felt like a disability, because it has just put my life to ruin in nearly every way. Maybe it's hereditary, maybe it isn't, but Mr. Piper's message here feels like it HAS to apply. It must. What about it? I suppose just the fact that there is ongoing value to the suffering. That God actually uses it. Because if He didn't, well, I suppose there wouldn't be much reason to keep on enduring much longer.

    I met a pastor and prayed over for me and my son with special needs. He told me that my son has an evil spirit of deaf and mute. He exorcised us and said something that our lives are so deprived of happiness and he begged God for mercy and forgiveness. And he would sell his book after. I think though that he should just be more sensible and feel for himself how does it feel exactly having a child with special needs. I know there are others in Christian circle still hold this view and felt just God neglected us with no purpose other than God plays favourites, and sorry we are not his favourite. I am a mom and loves my child no matter what. I would not ever accept such defeating ideas about disabilities.

      My disability keeps me from running off from my husband when he's being unreasonable. My disability brings me closer to God, knowing that my physical body doesn't mean shit when it comes to death. Where will end up when dead? Dirt, reincarnate, hell, or heaven? I won't gamble with the possibilities. I take the worst-case scenario 'hell' and live by the rules of Christianity. I'd rather live in heaven then assume that I will cease to exist or reincarnate.

      Hi Joanne. I'm in no position to say what brought your suffering and your illness. I just can say that I feel for you and I know this is because God teaches me to love people and care about them - and He cares about and for you more than anyone else and He also feels for you. I don't have any chronic condition or anything of this sort but I do suffer in my life. We all do. Sometimes I just wish God takes away what seems to overwhelm me. But when He doesn't, He just tells me to trust Him because He knows what He's doing. It's never easy. But I found nothing else soothes me than trusting my Creator and my Saviour. I wish you can find comfort in that as well. Only God knows what happens then - if He decides to heal you or to sustain you in your struggle with the illness. Don't you mind if I pray for you and your baby as well? Drop me a line if you want, I'd love to hear from you.

      Sometimes the healing is in the heart. The only work Jesus asked of us was to believe in Him.
      All believers will be healed of trauma, death, illness, grief, and the whole of our fallen natures. There isn't one person alive that will exist apart from brokenness. Some are visible some are not.
      It's our faith and trust in God that brings Him glory. He does heal as He sees fit, we can't always know why. This is coming from someone who has been mostly bedridden since 2015.
      It isn't easy, but it's worth having faith. God is good and can carry us through any storm. He is the reward!
      Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” (John 6:29)

    God doesn't ordain or cause anything. We have free will and our souls decide before we're born what kind of a body we're going to be born into depending on what our soul wants or needs to experience or what problem from a past life it needs to work through to get to the next density.
    I read one time an explanation of someone being hit by a drunk driver and becoming disabled, the two souls knew each other and made a deal that in this life, one would agree to be the drunk driver and one would agree to be the victim who becomes disabled, and they both are playing these parts to work on different things that their souls need to work on.

    The same can be said for people with gender dysphoria who actually have it they did not choose to be born that way but they can still choose to accept the free gift of salvation I let the Lord's will be done in their life or not people with down syndrome and autism don't all go to heaven some go to hell people who were born who have gender dysphoria who struggle with transgenderism so I'm going to heaven and some go to hell

    I wish this made sense, god used blindness when he found it? I mean...come on. Birth defects and disabilities are a matter of life, some people are treated well and others not so well. I truly, truly, understand the need to rationalize the hand you have been dealt by turning to scripture. Most people need the willpower to keep on living despite their disability and they find it when turning to god.

    This is a bit shortsighted. All blindness is not formed in the womb.

    I have come to believe that God is sadistic twisted bully one who delights in seeing us toil and suffer... If you truly loved us there would be no such thing as disabilities at all learning or otherwise life has many challenges and is always hard life is suffering so if he was 11 creator no child would be born with any disability whatsoever none and it's up to them what they do with their life either serve God or not

      God gave Adam and Eve the choice to choose death or life. They chose death, which cursed all humans. Then Jesus came and gave us another chance. Free will is necessary for us to choose to love God or turn from Him. Without free will, then we would be robots. We screw ourselves. What if the trials God gives us are the exact ones we need to develop saving faith in Jesus, so we can be saved for eternity?

    Nature makes mistakes. Mother nature herself is imperfect. We are not born on a level playing field. God is not all-powerful. Disability would not exist, were this the case. God and nature are two different beings.
