When the EGR gets clogged, it will lead to burnt exhaust valves.

A car is not "supposed" to shut off if you remove a spark lead - it just does it because it doesn't have enough inertia to keep going. Its not a fail safe.

Check if you have spark there and if the spark plug is bad.
