    As an 1700ish rated player I also had my fair share of tricking stronger opponents in endgames, I was playing against someone around 2000 and was in a completely losing rook endgame, but my opponent was careless and a bit overconfident, he allowed me to get into a K+Q vs K+R situation, After the game has ended he showed me he knew the Philidor position, so it's not like the endgame was completely unknown to him, the only issue was that in the game he failed to force the Philidor position and I ended up getting a draw by the 50 move rule.

    Agad, this game is not a perfect one with engine precision, but it features an unconventional and against-the-principle strategy where the winning side underdevelops his pieces while forcing the opponent to develop.
    Reti on this game: "At this point, the reader will probably be perplexed. What advantage can there be in forcing one's opponent to an apparently sound development? As a matter of fact, we see here a strategic idea which had not been applied before xxxxxxxxxx." (Don't want to spoil)

    • @different_breed001
      @different_breed001 28 дней назад +1

      Well it does but Black has enough drawing resource at that point because of Rd1 any move and Rb1(unstoppable) the bishop and pawn both hang. And w/black having an extra passed pawn w/a rook even against two minor pieces should be a draw. I guess agad wasnt interested to show variations because the king's ultra passive on g1 and this didnt happen in the game.
