      Referring to Americans moving to another country, specifically in Europe, Asia or Africa. Our ancestors moved here from these countries, for the same reasons that you mentioned. Why Americans are moving out of the United States, I call this reverse immigration. Going back to Europe, whether it's Great Britain, Spain, Germany, France etc. Right now it's just a slow drip out of the faucet. Coming a year or two, alot of Americans are going to find out. Trump and the Republican party, had broken the United States.

      As will I and my partner.... and as I have decided to leave, more and more reasons to do so come to mind including gun violence, increasing homelessness along with increasing crime - folks go into a store and simply walk out with merchandise without paying - and nobody stops them. Corporations have decided that it is cheaper/safer to just let the criminals go unchallenged. More and more merchandise is being displayed in glass cabinets under lock and key to mitigate theft; this requires a shopper to ring a bell to summon a clerk, who then unlocks the case and put your item in a LOCKED plastic box... sometimes they are required to escort you to the checkout stand. How about our "disease management system" (aka healthcare) - most physicians (save for Functional Medical practitioners) do not care if you are "well"/ their goal is to mitigate symptoms via drugs/surgery, frequently causing additional negative symptoms along the way (that's okay - we have LOTS of drugs!) So many more reasons why the U.S. is no longer an attractive place for me to live.

    As far as your question about should you leave your country. As a mixed race family with a teenage daughter we have been trying to many years to make changes and be part of our community. When you get to a point where you don't feel like you belong, are safe, or your values align with the majority of your country you have to decide what quality of life you want and where that is best achieved. There is nothing wrong with doing what is best for your family.

    Kristin, re: stay and fight. Name one country, empire or kingdom in human history that rose to greatness, declined to the point the US is today, then rose back to greatness again. There are none. Once a nation declines like we have, there’s no returning to greatness. We have all the wealth, etc., but the US has lost its luster in many other ways. We are terrible compared to 40-50 years ago. I don’t even recognize my own country anymore.😢 If people want to leave and can afford it, that’s their business, not anyone else’s. Great video.

      @cjoylabelle 2 месяца назад +20

      @@wandab3843 Yes, things were better, people weren’t as divisive. Thanksgiving was an uneventful holiday for the most part. Political BS was not top of mind. There was more solidarity amongst US citizens. We had for the most part similar views and concerns. Life was more about day-to-day living, progressing at work, family life, education, and having fun. I’m not saying it was perfect. Of course there were evils and people living on the fringes of society. But in general the concerns of the day were way less polarizing than they are today.
      Now, top of mind for most US citizens is immigration, sexuality concerns, and, of course with inflation, financial survival. The rich have gotten so much richer taking more and more of the world's financial pie so to speak, that it has left the rest of us wondering why it is now so hard to get by and who is to blame. Since 1979 in the US, average wage growth has decelerated sharply, with the biggest declines in wage growth at the bottom and the middle. Google it.
      The wealthy powers that be have deployed their tactics to distract us from their greedy thievery by making the less well off (over 99% of the US population) fight amongst ourselves. It’s unfortunately a tell as old as time when you look at the history of many other nations. The plutocrats are winning and who knows what’s in store for the rest of us with the emergence of AI and robotics. The US is now going to start experiencing what many in the rest of the world have been experiencing. Google dictatorship tactics. It’s a sad time for the US and humanity.

Trump's reelection left me hopeless. Kristin, what I like most about this video is the commentary and perspective you offer. I realize you measure your words and you take care to avoid delving into your own personal social and political ideology - and of course I understand your reasons for that. Still, the information you do choose to share has value nonetheless and I’m sure your audience finds it very helpful. I know I do.
    As for the celebrities who move abroad, or, for that matter, for others as well, I would never presume to sit in judgment of their decision. Everyone has their own motives, their own stage of life, and their own burdens to bear. Their motives may be about economics, or about health, or about life style, or about human rights, justice, and liberty. You point this out yourself.
    It’s so easy to sit in our armchair and pass judgment on what other people do. It’s so easy to have all the “answers” for other people. For my part, I have worked in nonprofit organizations, and I have done volunteer work as well. But I take no bows for this. We each have our own gifts and contributions to make. We all play a part in shaping the communities and societies in which we live.
    If someone feels a need to cut their losses and focus on themselves and their own well-being, they have my full support and encouragement. I don’t think of them as selfish in the least. None of us is made of steel, and sometimes we need to step back and focus on our own health and that of our family and friends.
    My only advice to people who move abroad is to go with an open mind, free of expectations, and to recognize that you will begin this new chapter of your life as a guest in another culture. I would tell them to leave any swagger and bravado behind. Learn the local language, customs, and traditions as well as you can. Engage with the locals and be friendly and respectful.
    There is no utopia. There are pros and cons to all countries - even if not in equal measure. The best we can do is try to select a place that is a good match for our way of life and our values. Identify your deal-breakers in advance, and then choose from among the countries that pass that test.
    Finding a good country and culture is not unlike finding a good life partner. You look for a compatibility of interests and outlook. You share what you have in common, and you respect the ways in which you are different.
    Also, don’t burn your bridges. Do your best to keep your options open because even as today you may undertake the monumental decision to move abroad, you may want at some point to return to the country of your birth.
    Kristin - you’re the best. Thank you so much for this video and for your full body of work. You are an inspiration. -Jeff M

      There are many that are disparaging them. The number of people, left or right, that approve of fascism are vanishingly small. Same with NAZIs and actual Communists. Americans need to take a deep breath and remember what they love about where they are from. Most have common values - and a large number find themselves at odds with the rule makers. From HOAs to Congress, people feel they are not represented. We tend to lash out at the people nearby who are safe to criticize. People in UK are learning it is very unsafe to say certain things. This country will correct or crash, but as an American, you will always be a foreigner in other lands. If history is a guide, that stigma will last far after the nation is gone. It is going on all over the world, Political parties represent interests not citizens anymore. In the US, being the richest country in the world, it is more obvious because most of the wealth of the economy ends up in the 1% wealthy elite and the standards of living decline steadily for the rest of the American citizens. The standards of living statistics and the Gini index are there to see it. In Europe we had total admiration for the American society in the 60s, the African American rights movements, the folk singers singing about the injustices of American society (We could relate to many of those in Europe), the incredible opposition to the Vietnam war. America is unique. It's now on a positive trajectory for the first time in a long time. There is no perfect place but the United States is still where lots of people still want to come to. Our future looks bright. Same in Italy which is run by the Italian female Trump: Meloni. Nobody cares about these has-been celebrities. We care very much about entrepreneurs that solve problems, innovate and create lots of jobs.

      Since you say that the United States is “on a positive trajectory for the first time in a long time,” I gather you support Donald Trump. But Trump was president as recently as January of 2020. And at this writing, it’s November of 2024. So unless you think the United States was not on a positive trajectory during Trump’s first term in office, this can only mean that you have a very curious definition of a long time.

    In the examples discussed, 180 days and 90 days, is this the maximum per year or per border crossing? In other words, if I entered Spain and spent two months and then slipped over the border into Portugal and spent a week there before returning to Spain, would I be limited to one month or would the 90 day clock start again?

    • @kitty_s23456
      @kitty_s23456 2 месяца назад

      It's the total number of days in the Schengen Area. In your example, if you spent 60 days in Spain then 20 days in Portugal, then if you decide to return to Spain you can only stay there for 10 more days. Ideally, make it 9 or 8 days so that you don't max out the number of days because sometimes SHTF. Then you'll have to fly out to a non-Schengen country (example Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, etc) and stay there for at least 90 days. Then you can return to the Schengen area for another 90 (or 89) days.

      Exceptions are Albania and Georgia (the country) where US citizens can stay for 1 year on a tourist visa. Caution re: Georgia, they recently voted a pro-Russia/ Putin leader. Many Russians also went there to escape conscription, increasing the price for rental properties.
