  • Whether you are an experienced artist or just starting out, it is always fun to get some inspiration and see what others are up to. I am just starting to use my journal and was inspired by the lovely phrase that 'To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow'. I will show you how I used this in a garden themed page using collage, watercolour, stencils and typography. I made a pocket by cutting and sticking pages and little packets to keep seeds in, though you could always plant your hopes and dreams in them! Whether you art journal for fun, to experiment, for wellness, for mindfulness... I hope you find this film useful.
    I estimate that this took about two - three hours to do in total. There is drying time and thinking time, but don't let that put you off. If you only have a short time, you can do this in easy stages. Start with the writing, next day add collage, next day add paint.... you get the idea.
    If you want more of an introduction to art journaling and why it might be right for you along with a two page mixed media spread, please look at this film: • Getting started in art...
    If you want to make your own journal or sketch book, like the one I am using, please take a look here: • How to make a watercol...
    If you would like some garden related prompts you can download them for free here: www.lizchadert... You will need to create an account (email and password) to access the content.
    Every week I share a tip, trick or technique I wish I had known when I started painting, so if you enjoyed this please like, comment and subscribe. Or if you have a watercolour problem, let me know and maybe I can help? Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed this.
    If you want to have more in depth courses please head over to www.lizchaderto.... I also run a friendly Facebook group: / watercolourstudiowithl... .

    I giggled when you used “I have a cunning plan” (Boldrick from Black Adder fame quote) I love collages. So fun to use up little bits of scraps.

    I loved watching and listening to you, as usual, Liz! I usually have at least 2 or 3 books going at once and coincidentally, one that I am reading now is "Audrey at Home:Memories of My Mother's Kitchen" by Audrey Hepburn's son! I am reading a section now that is about her beloved home and extensive garden in Switzerland!
    I can see these journal entries of yours are always going to have some neat little tricks to try even if I'm not journaling. (I pulled out my bubble wrap right away, as you saw on Facebook. And yes, I had to photo my messy hands, because I love seeing you just get in there and do your thing, paint-spattered hands and all!)
    Those stencils are also a good idea - but tracing first, then painting - I remember trying to paint a stencil of leaves a while back, and yeah, it did not work - "mucky," for sure. I do not like my handwriting or printing - this would be good on cards!
    (The punch that you're talking about is called just what it does - a corner rounder! I have one and several others that make different decorative shapes on the corners of paper - part of my "scrapbook/photo album" supplies!)

      love your comments! if you have scrap booking supplies, then art journaling is just an arty scrap book….it’s where artistic journey and scrap booking meet 😊

    I love your art so much, and including the envelopes in a pocket is a cool idea. May have to try it out.

    I found you from a granulating video. I was wondering if you might have a color mixing idea for one of the most famous gardens. I’m going to Israel and wondering how to mix the color of olive trees. Or if you know of a color that is premixed?

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  11 месяцев назад

      olive green is a warm grey neutral green, I would say. So I would mix up a green and then add a smidge of red, or if it is a bright yellow/green add a tiny bit of purple. Hard to give a formula as it all depends on the light!
