  • Fresh off his win in this years MXGP World Motocross Championship, Jorge Prado is on vacation in the US doing some Supercross. I met Jorge earlier this year at the Arco event and we talked about making the podcast happen at some point through the season. We were never able to make it happen, but with Jorge and I being in California at the same time it was the perfect opportunity. It was also great timing with his recent showing at the MXON in France and also fresh off a Supercross track on a 450 for the first time.

Interesting hearing his perspective. As a much older hard enduro type rider I find the new TBI TE 300 to be a big step up from the previous TPI generation. The new fork and chassis is much more precise, without being harsh. The XCF 450 similarly impressed me. My 2021 XCF-W 500 now feels flexy and unresponsive in comparison. The new closed cartridge front fork will be good enough for most weekend riders with only appropriate springs fitted.

I’ve got a 23 300SX and it’s the best bike I’ve had yet… makes my 15 300EXC feel like the step back to my old 02 200EXC. The 15’s still the right bike price rise for throwing into the rocks though. 😮‍💨💸💸😅
Interesting comment about the F:R balance of the bike… only really dawned on me at the weekend that it needs more front end input than the old one, particularly across slip faces going through the dunes.
Not sure if anyone’s felt the same on the 23SX/XC or 24EXC?
Still love it… 300SX with TBI and electric power valve is a genuine 450 chaser. It rips. 🦾😎

it makes sense what KTM is doing. they need 1 chassis for all the 4 strokes and one for all the 2 strokes. this is similar to how VW Group uses same tub and chassis across VW, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini and then tweak body panels, engine and drivetrain to segment and target specific market groups. KTM is doing the same. The need to streamline production but at same time they need to offer different power and engine size levels to market specific riders and abilities. Imagine if they had to make a specific frame and chassis for each specific model; would be a nightmare for sourcing and production, etc. They will figure it out and have better bikes and be more efficient in the long run. The other brands that aren't production efficient will struggle as the market continues to soften.

I love to hear the pros talk about the differences in the motorcycles. Sadly, only 2% of us can ride any of these top-of-the-line motorcycles anywhere near their limits. I have several motorcycles. I also jumped on the chance to buy a 2023 Suzuki Rmz 450 List price this year $9199. I got mine brand new same bike for $6800 out the door and that included several options and a Yoshimura full system.people talk crap about Suzuki because it hasn’t changed since 2018 and it doesn’t have electric start. Just funny to us old guys. If you can’t kickstart the motorcycle, you probably should’ve buy it. Also, if you don’t have a Kickstarter and you lose your power halfway through a ride enjoy pushing it back. Lol just saying that this Suzuki is in my opinion, the best looking and plenty good for the other 98% of us. I don’t think the additional $7000 for the KTM is worth it for us regular people. Hey grab what you like and ride it. Life is short. keep the shiny side up.

If he said amything on it, i missed it. I know he was injured for a ling time and perhaps many things were figured out during his time sidelined so maybe he never experienced the worst/initial bike of the new design? Maybe someone can enlighten me on it?
