  • Fresh off his win in this years MXGP World Motocross Championship, Jorge Prado is on vacation in the US doing some Supercross. I met Jorge earlier this year at the Arco event and we talked about making the podcast happen at some point through the season. We were never able to make it happen, but with Jorge and I being in California at the same time it was the perfect opportunity. It was also great timing with his recent showing at the MXON in France and also fresh off a Supercross track on a 450 for the first time.

Love Prado and Jett. Prado is the current MXGP champ. He has to believe he is better. You don’t become the champ unless you truly believe you’re the best. They both get along. They both believe they are the best at what they do. Hopefully they get to race a whole season against each other. As a fan it would be a dream come true. Boxers or mma fighters don’t get into the ring thinking they will loose.

Jett’s confidence came from winning when the 450 class was light in competition then as guys came back he continued to win. That’s the perfect scenario for a rider moving up to the 450 class. He didn’t say Jett was overrated, more pointed to the fact that he didn’t have too much competition in the outdoors this year. I completely disagree with this - Chase Sexton , who in my option, is a top class rider, wasn’t able to take a single race off of Jett. That’s not just some insignificant achievement, that deserves a pat on the back, it’s absolutely incredible! Such an achievement has only been accomplished by a very small few.
Prado is a wonderfully talented rider, who’s holeshotting abilities are second to none, but he does have the tendency to overestimate his riding abilities. My eyes, did not deceive me - at Ernee this year, when he was beaten by Febvre in the first race, and absolutely destroyed by Jett and Kenny in the final race. If anything, he had an easy ride in MXGP this year, with Gajser, Febvre, and Herlings all struggling and recovering from injuries at various points in the season. He won 2 out 19 GPs 🤷‍♂️ if you’re going to talk about being the best, the stats don’t support it.

As an Aussie I’m ok with what Prado said!
To be the best you have to believe your the best!
Of course he would think he’s better than Jett!
My only issue is with anyone saying “oh everybody was out!” Let’s be honest only really Tomac and Kenny were out!
Craig, Mookie or anyone else wouldn’t have gotten near Jett!
Only sexton was in Jetts category and Jett beat him when you know sexton at the seasons end was prepared to die to beat Jett and he couldn’t!
If Jett wins again in 2024 I would love to see him do 1 year of MXGP in 2025 and then maybe go back to America!!
Imagine the publicity for Honda and the sport!!
Then we would know just how good Jett is!
But if we’re really honest Jett was clearly the best at MXoN and remember it was his first time at Ernee!!😊

let's be serious here, if we're talking team AMA and not just team USA and we're talking a 3 450 and 3 250, team AMA would never be the underdog. that's a team of Jett, Eli, Chase and Haiden, Hunter, Jo. And i'm leaving out Kenny and Justin Cooper. If we make it top4 in each class Team AMA would be even more a favorite. they may lose in a one off race, but that team still would always be the favorite, except maybe in deep sand. That doesn't mean Euro's are slow, of course not, everyone knows that in a one off race with no prep for the AMA guys they have an advantage, but if you're talking a season where AMA guys get to ride the same tracks, get the same amount of prep both physically and equipment, all those guys are going to be fighting for the podium and the win. this was very obvious by the last moto of the mxdn. Now if we're talking about the top top guy, it really can't be compared simply because of supercross, period.

Both Jett and Prado won their 450 titles with some of their most serious, seasoned competitors out with injuries...but that's racing...you can only complete with the guys who front up to the starting gate. Does that diminish either of their titles...NO...
Jorge can pontificate till the cows come home about how Jett would go in MXGP. His thoughts on Jett's 'flowing style' don't hold much water either...JMB and Stefan both came from that school of rider and nobody can claim that they weren't competitive on Euro style tracks.
And as for his thoughts on 'rider size'...again, what does it matter? Results matter, not size. Ricky was [is] a small dude and in his prime he would bust Jorge's ass week in, week out!!!
Lastly, one of the classiest things about both of the Lawrence brothers is that they never talk down their competitors - Jorge could learn a thing or two from them.

Tom Vialle wasn’t even close this year and he is 2x world champ. The list goes on and on. I think we need to stop blowing up mxgp rider’s heads because they win mxon more now. Not sure I agree that Jett is not the equal of the GP riders. Practice is not the race. Quite often, racers (motorcycles, cars, boats, etc, it doesn't matter) will sandbag until it matters. Jett is known for not going any faster than needed to achieve his goal. MXoN would suggest that Jett is every bit as fast as any GP rider. I would love to see all these top guys on the same tracks... some in Europe, and some in the US.

Interesting comments about BEATING & BEING BETTER than Jett Lawrence. The quote “Lies, Damn Lies & Statistics” comes immediately to mind. When in every race, Jett Lawrence was the only rider who closed the gap on anyone in front of him, and widened the gap on anyone behind him. In other words he was consistently going the fastest in every race, even the race where he dropped the bike and had 39 riders in front of him, at his first time visit to a track infamously hard to pass on. (everyone drops their bike occasionally, and far more often than Jett Lawrence). That race saw him pass more riders than almost all the rest of the riders combined for the weekend. I counted 8 World Champions, with 15 World Titles between them, as well as Seewar and Geerts with 9 Runner-Up World Titles, that he went past for the weekend, some more than once.
Also I think Jorge at the back of his mind knows all this but dares not speak it (and he didn’t). He also knows full well that when he and Gajser and Renaux and Febvre and Co. came to an actual head to head duel with Jett, that Jett went past them so easily, and then pulled away from them just as quickly. Now that, is an example of an honest “Statistic” for you.
Now the sad part, where Jorge tried to allude that in Race 3, Kenny and Jett got an insurmountable break, and that he would have loved to have been up front with them, so that he could have raced them. If only....
Well no. Kenny got a tiny break, followed by Renaux then Jorge, and then Jett. So its not that Jorge was left behind at the start, its that when Jett did an effortless outside/inside move on him, he could not keep up and kept falling further behind, same as everyone else. The most inconvenient “Statistic” of all.
And there we have it, with an all things even, no excuses start, Sunday Motocross returned to the predictable norm of everyone else (this time the rest of the world) following Jett Lawrence around a dirt track.
Finally yes, I do agree that Jett did have a bad weekend. (but only by his standards).
P.S. I guess Jorge was asked, and would have been better off saying nothing, but then he went into all these facetious thinly veiled put-downs to try and detail his own superiority, while deliberately ignoring the herd of elephants in the room.
Sorry but after watching these childishly silly, misleading, and not to mention conceited comments something had to be said.

Prado grew up with a 24k gold spoon is his mouth. His parents never had to sacrifice anything to keep that little Mama Huevo riding, nor did Jorge have to "go without" anything racing as a kid. His folks are loaded and after hearing him speak, the only thing I still like about him is his absolutely gorgeous sister. She is smoking hot.
