More reviews need to be done like this. Loaded with sarcasm, professionally recorded, and really good playing. I hope to see more reviews from you. With that said... Though the cleans do sound good, but they have bite with heavier pick attack. It's a shame this thing doesn't have sparkling cleans... It would be perfect combined with it's high gain tone. Lastly, for those who think hollowbody guitars are for blues and jazz...this video should squash that idea.
Remark: on the clean channel, on this amp, if you set the input gain at 0 (yes!) you have the possibility to have a very clean sound, even with humbuckers at a quite loud volume ;-)
Hey man, loved your review, even if I couldnt understan you sometimes, I'm Canadian, but I have this amp (but havent been able to play it in forever, some kind of problem that it needed to be sent out for) and I'm glad that someone was able to explain settings and EQ's and such. Loved all of your samples you played, especially Life In The Fast Lane by the Eagles.
@ThomasSchuber Could you post your fx settings you used on the GMajor? Thanks for the review... Picked up one of these yesterday and your review helped a lot.
Thanks for ending my search for a low watt amp. I currently have an ENGL Straight 100 in Mint condition with low hours from the late 80's and need to find a buyer. My amp has never been out of my apartment or played above 2 because I like a roof over my head!!! Unbelievably Loud. I'm now married and looking for someone in need of a Vintage Stadium 100W Amp! I appreciate your time and Video. You may want to add that it also goes down to 5 and 1 watts for us in-home old Metal Heads!!! Best…Neil
I have Marshall master lead combo at home amplifier, watching these videos of little Engl Gigmaster 15, I'm sure this will kick ass hell! So going to buy this definitely, thanks for video, great work!
This is the kind of video that makes me want to go play. Just hearing some of those clean-esque jazz chords...combined with your high gain tones. I fuckin' love it...
@bornburied I you could proof that I'd be glad if you'd put a video with that content. though I don't care if there's tubes in it or not. I just like or don't like the sound. And what's high with engl prices??
Your killing me Thomas....you all ready convinced me to buy a H&K Tubemeister 18 now I may half to buy the Engl Gigmaster 15....great demo....love the, "Don't fear the Reaper" riff....great tone to my ears....sounds like a great little amp. So if my buddy Dino plays through the Tubemeister and I play through the Gigmaster, I wonder how they will compliment each other....???? Hmmmmm.
Sehr geiles Video! Sehr gut gespielt und alle Klangvariationen super herausgearbeitet. Der Treblebooster den Du mittendrin benutzt, ist das ein BSM BM-Q?
I can't help but wonder how much of the great sound is the guitar too, any chance you could throw up a short with an Ibanez S, Telecaster maybe a Schecter or some random $250 guitar?
@ElMontu I have not heard the 10" combo yet. I guess you could at least practice at low volumes. For baritone tunings i think this amp has too little headroom.
@bornburied Right on. I can see you have some amplifier circuit knowledge. You make great points. The preamp doesn't have to use clipping diodes for them to dictate tone. Alot of people run distortion pedals in front of the preamp, in which clipping diodes are now introduced into the circuit, and ultimately creating the tone. The only real reason one needs tubes or op amps is to raise the current from instrument-level to line-level, so that the power section can "hear" it and thus amplify it
Way better than the official review. Looking at alternatives to my blackstar ht-5 which has just blown up and no longer under warranty. Its between this the dark terror and the jim root terror which has the thunderverb gain structure.
@ElMontu if I were you, I'd go for the head version and check a couple of 1x12, 2x12, and halfstacks with your OWN guitar and your tunings. get what sounds best for you.
Hi!!! I like your video! I am thinking about buying this amp but firstly I would like to know if it is a good head for blues and jazz and it's also good for rock. thanks!
What's the differences between with head 30, can you explain please? I want to use them at home only with 1 x 12 Celestion V 30, 60 watts. Should I need to buy 30 or 15?
I love this demo. It really showcases the variety of tone. Thank you! Quick question -- sorry if I missed this somehow, but you are playing the TC electronic g-major through this, correct? If so, what did you add to the tone from the TC? Thanks! -- great playing, man!
@ElMontu will work just as well as long as one speaker doesn't overpower the other one. (10s can be less efficient than 12s) no use in having a 10" combo when you can't hear it through your 12"...
Yes I do....Randall Diavlo RD100H w/4x12 Marshall cab & Mesa Tremoverb w/Mesa 4x12 cab....my living room is 12'x14'....the Randall sounds great even at low volumes and has a great clean channel....though both are 100w amps, the Randall is much more tame and manageable.
Dude, i love your sarcastic remarks :p "yeah bleusamp :| ". Nice review of the amp ;). I also have the head + cab. And i love it ;). It's maybe not a "full" tubeamp considering only one preamptube and that amount of gain. But hell, NICE SOUND. Btw I mostly play metal. It was this or a peavey 6505+ combo :s And I went for a more versitale amp ;) I don't regret it ;).
I already know why this is the only review I like. The preamp in itself is good. (linear output) Its the poweramp that screws really the sound. Im gona get some nice TAD EL84 pairs and give it a try.
hard to hear it with all the fx here and I think he is DI ing aswell i don't recognize it, I have one it sounds good on full , pretty poor EQ section , and the step down setting on the watts is useful but doesn't sound as good
@bornburied The Blackstars are great, but despite being able to be voiced tight and American, they retain a British flavour... I found that out the hard way by buying one... Now I want one of these ENGLs. Nothing wrong with either, but I want the tightness and clarity of the ENGL distortion... I can use an ABY box, and between the two amps I would have 4 channels. Of course, the Blackstar Series 1's are probably a different story, but the HT venue amps are very British in character...
@bornburied Those Dr. Z amps are some of THE finest tube amps that one could ever hope to own. Over the years, I have taken the natural evolution from being a high gain only player, to enjoying playing funky little barred-jazz-chord riffs with a little bit of chorus. With that said, I still love my high gain Mesa tone. The hard part for me, is finding or building an amp that will cover the full spectrum from very clean to the full on Mesa high gain. The closest I've found is the Mesa Mark V...
@bornburied Those Mesa Tri-Axis' are sweet. Mesa is one of the few amp companies that has figured out how to cover the entire realm of tone. Egnater is another one. I haven't gotten to try out the Electrodyne yet, but I was very impressed with the Transatlantic models. The problem for me, is that I am easily bored with the same tone. Some days, I feel Fender clean. Some JCM800. Some Mesa Recto, Some days, Vox. I feel I'm one who could never have too many preamps to select from.
My point of view is: I don't have any tech background, so I won't comment on things I don't know about (circuit layout, quality of parts, voltage, bias). And I only care about what I hear and feel. Even if this amp was all solid state or whatever, I just don't care. There's no need for me to defend anything, I just present and leave it to the audience to decide. So if you point out the Solid State preamp, you're welcome. that's what this channel is for. Just keep it friendly!
@bornburied I sent you a personal message last night after writing that last comment. As for distortion/OD pedals being dog shit. Alot of guys would disagree in terms of the Tube Screamer, Big Muff, etc. While I agree nothing is as good as tube warmth, it's not the be-all-end-all in terms of tone. I'd still take a Roland JC-120 before alot of tube amps. There's not a cleaner tone on the face of the earth...and clean tone is the most important thing to me. I can get good overdrive anywhere.
@bornburied TOO interpret? hmmm. I'd be glad tooo hear yooooour german. I don't like people displaying large amounts of arrogance when only being asked a simple question! And I don't want to mention Boogie prices over here. outside the US. That's also 3/4 (or more) of the world. GET IT? GOOOOOD.

One of best demos I've ever seen! And I've seen lots) Thank you very much! I also enjoyed the melodies and your playing techniques, thanks again!
Ja Thomas, langs hats gedauert seit dem letzten Review ;)
Aber wieder mal super gemacht!
Hey man, loved your review, even if I couldnt understan you sometimes, I'm Canadian, but I have this amp (but havent been able to play it in forever, some kind of problem that it needed to be sent out for) and I'm glad that someone was able to explain settings and EQ's and such. Very nice review Thomas! Looks like a great amp!
Honestly, the best review! Grüß aus Mexico City.
@stevoe1000
the cam is a Canon HV20 and the mic is a big Rode (you can't see in the Video, out if frame)
@ThomasSchuber Could you post your fx settings you used on the GMajor? Thanks for the review... Picked up one of these yesterday and your review helped a lot.
Awesome sounding amp!!!!! And you are very musically gifted!
Thanks for ending my search for a low watt amp. I currently have an ENGL Straight 100 in Mint condition with low hours from the late 80's and need to find a buyer. I fuckin' love it...
Wow, didn't expect that first chord! Really full sounding!
to be completely honest, im in love with this amp!!
great review man!!
@bornburied

I love how the clean channel is as clean as a used tampon :D
Just great videos and you're the only one who has sold me on the Palmer pdi.. hey what camera and mic do you use to record yourself and your voice...
@AlSabbagha
?? All straight to the computer with an interface and a Palmer PDI-03.
@mrsub360
thats a Höfner Verythin Vintage, German production, no longer available. Chunky neck, modded with a TOM and different wiring.
Sehr geiles Video! Sehr gut gespielt und alle Klangvariationen super herausgearbeitet. Der Treblebooster den Du mittendrin benutzt, ist das ein BSM BM-Q?

I have not heard the 10" combo yet. I guess you could at least practice at low volumes.
For baritone tunings i think this amp has too little headroom.
What is the guitar you're using here? It looks very similar to the JS series you use in another of your videos, but it's a bit different.
Hello, what gtr is it ? I didn't heard at the biginning of the vdo ? it sounds as if it was tuned lower ? is it ? thanx
Hi! Nice demo :)
Can you tell what is that two chords you strumming with at 4:57?
Thank you!
Great review and playing. Have you played the Carvin V3M. If so how does this amp stack up?
@bornburied Right on. I can see you have some amplifier circuit knowledge.
You make great points. The preamp doesn't have to use clipping diodes for them to dictate tone. Alot of people run distortion pedals in front of the preamp, in which clipping diodes are now introduced into the circuit, and ultimately creating the tone. Hi! Was für eine eine genaue Bezeichnung hat deine Höfner-Gitarre? o.O die is der Hammer aber ich find sie nirgends =/
Is this Direct? Excuse me if I missed it in the video. And if so what Effects or you running if any in your daw? reverb?
Way better than the official review. Looking at alternatives to my blackstar ht-5 which has just blown up and no longer under warranty. Its between this the dark terror and the jim root terror which has the thunderverb gain structure.

Blown away with this amp! Sold.
Hey, could you please write me tabs or something on the figure that you play at 7:32? Thank you a lot!!
Hi!!! I like your video! I am thinking about buying this amp but firstly I would like to know if it is a good head for blues and jazz and it's also good for rock.
thanks!
Guitar sounds great also and the playing
wow! thank´s Thomas! a grate review, so complete!
@TheChrisJr
I used, as always, my Palmer pdi-03 for direct recording (keeps my vids comparable)
and a G.Major FX for reverb
Wow I'm really craving the tone from this amp must buy one!
I love your demo
What's the differences between with head 30, can you explain please? I want to use them at home only with 1 x 12 Celestion V 30, 60 watts. Should I need to buy 30 or 15?
the 30 Watt has no powersoak but reverb and another boost
I love this demo. It really showcases the variety of tone. Thank you! Quick question -- sorry if I missed this somehow, but you are playing the TC electronic g-major through this, correct? If so, what did you add to the tone from the TC? Thanks! -- great playing, man!
Sorry, I didn't catch the first part about going down to 5 watts the first time….Great Job!
a honest review, great little amp
Wow! I know you didn't like the clean, but I actually really dig it. Has a cranked PLEXI vibe to it. Big, spongy and warm. Cool amp!
@ElMontu
will work just as well as long as one speaker doesn't overpower the other one. (10s can be less efficient than 12s) no use in having a 10" combo when you can't hear it through your 12"...
3 choices...Engl Gigmaster 15, Randall RD20, Mesa Mini Rectifier....which one should I get Thomas?
never heard the randall
Well then....Mesa Mini Rec or Engl Gigmaster?
I ended up purchasing the Randall Diavlo RD100H....I prefer 100w amps now....can't get the sound I like out of the lower watt amps.
Sehr cooles Playthrough mit einer guten Portion Witz und Humor.. danke!
@WondrVi
Sorry, no Time for that, but you might want to look for Tabs of Queen „it's Late" : )
speaker cabinet?
What reverb are you using now?
Dude, i love your sarcastic remarks :p "yeah bleusamp :| ". Nice review of the amp ;). I also have the head + cab. And i love it ;). very nice review
man that guitar sounds awsome !
I already know why this is the only review I like.

Its the poweramp that screws really the sound. Im gona get some nice TAD EL84 pairs and give it a try.
@dominicl100
Ohh, that's supposed to be "this love" by maroon 5.
You sold a Gigmaster 15! Thank you!
Engl amps are amazingly versatile.
Engl kicks SO much ass!
Good demo
@goulash2000
This vid was, just like all my vids, recorded directly through a palmer PDI-03 Speakersimulator.
fx by TC G-Major.
I used a BSM Treble booster BEFORE that, at 7.30 none.
hard to hear it with all the fx here and I think he is DI ing aswell i don't recognize it, I have one it sounds good on full , pretty poor EQ section , and the step down setting on the watts is useful but doesn't sound as good
Uoooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Good sound,compliments for your esebition.
But....cash 1x12 or 1x10?
Thanks,by.
Great review.

Thanks a lot!

Höfner Verythin Vintage Violin finish (out of production)
i juz love your sense of sarcasm "yeah blues amp" *plays enter sandman*

why do you use all that rewerb ? take that away
good video of a good amp, made by a good guitar player.
:)
no, you use the speaker out into Palmer
Could this amp work for playing death metal like cannibal corpse with emgs pickups and b flat tuning or is there not much gain and bass ect?
i love your teeshirt
@bornburied I sent you a personal message last night after writing that last comment.
