So glad I found this video! Making my 1st tiered cake this weekend and I am super nervous about it.
I've been making and stacking cakes for years and I have never heard of crossing the grains when making your own cake drums. But it makes perfect sense especially with regard to stability. I've usually purchase a cake drum, but I have made my own as well. Never thought to cross them though. Great tip! Also my grandmother taught me how to make cakes, but when she stacked them she always added frosting as a glue between the tiers, as well as dowels. I've never sprinkled powdered sugar so that's a new one. Thanks
Very clear and easy explanation to follow...thanks Wilton team 👍🏻
Excellent video! So many helpful tips even if you have stacked a cake before these tips help to make u better!
Super helpful video, thanks!
Please do a video about decorating with buttercream anything on the side of any kind of cake. Mine almost always fall or slide out of place.
Very important subject! Thanks!
I have never stacked a cake, but will be doing so now and adding these products to my birthday wish list. I always look forward to these tutorials, I learned more watching compared to in store classes.
Wonderful ❣️. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️
So well explained 👍
So delicious
Thank u so much
Hi! I have a quick question. I’m assuming if the cake I want to make is 3 tiers high, this method would be the same for the top-most tier adhering to rest of the cake? So, does that mean my center dowel needs to be the height of all 3 tiers, correct?
Thank you so much for this video. Your explanation and illustrations showing the directions were concise, clear and enjoyable.
Great explanation! Thank you!!
Thanks for that very instructive video. How do I prevent fondant icing on cakes from becoming soft and draining during rainy season? I live in a tropical region.
Do you have a tutorial on how much cake batter you need for a 3" deep 14" round cake pan? Also how much cake batter for a 3" deep and 12" round cake pan? Thank you in advance for your help!
Do you have a good icing recipe for flowers?
Will this technique work for a 3 tier cake as well
Question, When one tier has fruit filling, should this be bottom tier of 3 tiered cake?
Will this work if my 2nd tier is not centered in cake? The bottom tier is a 10" and the top a 6" but not centered more towards back center
where do I find perforated cake circles?
Hi do u have to have holes in te upper cakes to pass the rod from the lower layer.
Did you get an answer Maggie to your question? I don’t see a reply? I’m doing a 4 tiered cake and when I watch the video she just put the one cake on top but it didn’t show how it was able to press on?? With no hole through the top cake? I would think it would make a mess pushing it through? Maybe I missed something?
GM,
My cakes always end up with a gap between tiers. Not sure why but I'm hoping you could help.
Brillant
Hi, do u place the top tier with the board or without the board?
Hi,
Pls one question! Was there a cake board below the univorn cake and the golden cake?? If so y can't i c it?? Is it cut? Also if i just place the unicorn cake( let's say it's that) without a board as i just pick the second tier and place on the dowel area where we apply candymelt to attach and than on top insert a dowel in the middle..cus tht be correct?
Hi! Yes, the unicorn cake is placed on a 6” board (same size as the cake) We iced it a little thicker so as not to see the board. We applied Candy Melts only to the base to help secure the cake when traveling. Hope this helps!
Do you cut the cake with the rods in?
Yes, but be sure to remove before serving!
What do I do if I have three tiers?
Show!
Great tutorial! Quick question: I will be making an 8" and 10' stacked for a client. I will definitely tell them about the rods in the cake but how will they slice/serve the cake? Won't taking the rods out damage the cake?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Patricia, The cake will not be damaged once the rods are removed. Just make sure to remove carefully especially if you have a very soft or crumbly cake. Thanks for watching the video and please don't forget to subscribe to our channel for more tutorials: s.wilton.com/10vmhuv
Please how do i stack a 4 tiered cake with the dowels?
Even my single tier cake slides on the cake board during transportation even though I use whipping cream on the cake board to fix the cake
Kindly suggest a better solution to stop this sliding
I'm hoping you can give me some more insight on stacking. I'm making a square bottom cake that will be supporting a soccer ball shape cake. The sphere shape is going to be covered in fondant to represent the moon. The placement I'm sure is key.....do I have to center it or can I have it more towards one corner of the bottom cake? How many support rods should I have for it? Bottom cake will be 12x12x2 the sphere is 6in diameter.
Hi Candy, You do not have to center it if the design allows. Wherever the cake will be, we recommend using 3 to 4 dowel rods to support the cake. Hope this helps and good luck! Thanks for watching and we hope you'll subscribe to our channel.

I would like to know how to make the unicorn cake.
Hi Stephanie, Here's a link to the video on how to make the unicorn cake: bit.ly/3oqMbv6. Thanks!
What's the point of the caps? Isn't it sufficient just to put the dowels on their own?
Hi! These caps keep the rods from shifting.
Gostaria que RUclips traduzisse para i português
cakes are so difficult and time-consuming from baking the cake, making the frosting, to icing it, decorating and support for multi tiers.
Right. Thats why tiered cakes are expensive

Gosh this seems so difficult...
There are many similar projects in Woodprix's plans.
