    Is almost magical how a mushroom can sprinkle some dust and a single spec of that dust can then find a random surface and use whatever resources available to grow into a whole new mushroom

      Takes 2 spores, and the said spores grow out into a mycelium network. Producing hundreds of mushrooms, not just a singular one.

    The ones I use to grow usually had purple spore prints and would bruise blue if you weren’t gentle

    Albino spores are clear sometimes - like these appear; but that strain would only Maybe be considered Leusistic.

    As a hoh person i really appreciate how subtle your captions were. Some people have animated colourful bouncy single-word captions that are hard to read & really annoying. These captions were nice. They were small, a good font, & the colouring animation was a subtle animation to give them visual interest without damaging the legibility.

      Somehow when i get mine i always end up accidentally falling with the syringe in my hand and accidentally stabbing it into one of the sterilized grain bags i have sitting around. I've never had any make it to the microscope slide 😢 😂

    Gonna try and grow them. Supposedly they are terribly hard to grow but hell why not give it a go

    As a former precision machinist, 3 microns is pretty big. That's ~0.00012". But 40 microns is YUGE! 0.0016"! That's half a hair!

      Psylocybin spores are actually generally purple or black when theyre heavily concentrated. The blue is when the actual mushroom body is bruised and some of the psylocybin is exposed to air it oxidizes and forms a compound similar to indigo dye.

    Another cool fact about mushrooms is when they can't find a nice stop, they grow underground, forming a truffle. One conditions meet their liking they sprout and go above ground to then spread its own spores

    Unlike a seed, spores are produced without pollen and food storage. However, they are like pollen in the way the fungus produces millions of them, of which 99.99% die, but it is worth it because only one success is needed for reproduction.

    in elementary school, our teacher had us do a similar experiment. we were told to put the mushroom caps on construction paper, and present it in class or something. i forgot mine under my bed and had to be rushed to the hospital when it rotted. i learned that day i am deathly allergic to fungus.

      spores are the older and more primitive version of seeds, ferns, one of the oldest type of plants has spores instead of seeds as well.

    Yeah to Basidiomycetes. I ID spores all day long. Some times I get air samples from people that have certain types of basidiomycetes growing in there homes on purposes for that saturday night at the Dave Matthew's cover band. Lol
