    I really commend you on having your perspective. Having passion and enjoyment for the process is the most key thing to not just breeding, but even raising these beautiful animals as pets. I think the unknown aspect of a litter is exciting, wondering what babies will look like, choosing which to keep and nursing mother and father back to their normal selves after they have bred. When done right, they are always our pets first. I initially started breeding because one of my males would not eat, and after almost 8 months I was scared I was going to lose him. Come to find out.. he only wanted to breed. After he did, he ate every time I fed him that year. At that point, I absolutely fell in love with the process of breeding. Your videos really guided me, and your advice always seems to apply. Wishing you good fortune on your breeding this year, and I continually look forward to your videos.

    I absolutely love the knowledge being shared. I appreciate people that are willing to share hard won knowledge. Rather than hoarding it for themselves. Nothing is better about learning something, than sharing it with others who are interested or share your passions. I'm new to snakes but I've spent years learning about the universe and physics. I don't get to share it often because most people don't care but when I do get to share it with someone, it is amazing! It has been a decade since something ignited a passion in me like Physics but snakes, have and I can't get enough!

    I’ve been a one reptile guy my whole life. Always loved reptiles but never considered breeding, or having more than one reptile at a time. Well I got my first boa in September, and started watching channels like yours, and now breeding really intrigues me. I have a 100% het blood male, so now I’m planning on getting a visual blood female this year.

    Great video! I'm in ball pythons not boa but it applies. We did start with quality base single morphs so we can identify them as we add more genes. Also I want to make my own of the high end stuff. So much more satisfying seeing the project through from the ground up for me.

    The one common piece of advice that I've heard from every successful breeder or even just people doing it as a hobby
    Work with what you like. Don't chase trends, don't chase what is selling for the highest amount of money (because realistically most people are not buying multiple thousand dollar animals anyway)
    But just work with what you like. Do you like something that has a heftier price tag and tends to be what more people might call a rare or quality animal? Work with it
    Do you like working with a $300 hypo that most people are just going to end up buying as a pet? Work with it
    This is supposed to be about the love for these animals first and foremost
    I think anybody trying to get into such a specific and specialty hobby with intention to only try and Enter it as a market for profit is going to be sorely disappointed
    These animals are a passion and a hobby, outside of very few people they are not some guaranteed business venture...
    Keep it up with the awesome content man. I would still eventually like to work with my animals in a greater capacity but I've hit a point in my life where I'm too busy to really consider investing further into it. I also had an unexpected health issue with one of my animals that I still have no answer for.
    So I figure my most responsible decision right now is to just continue to take care of the few that I have and make sure they're healthy and thriving and not worry about trying to smash two snakes together just to make some babies because everyone else is doing it
    Now is a good time to just appreciate the ones I have and enjoy watching them grow up
    Maybe one day I will be in the position to pursue this further, maybe I never will and if that's the case I know right now I have a few of these animals who bring me so much happiness and joy to interact with. That should at a very baseline be enough for anybody
    The girl I got from you is doing great. Couldn't have asked for a more well-behaved snake 🐍

    Mannnnnn u have put it down ,,, I do agree extatically on dealing with the most basic morph in order to just to start mixing ,, In that way u can really appreciate the newness in each different litter with more and more education upon adding more n more genes over time ... That experience and knowledge in doing that will make u great in that situation. If u were to start off with a multi high gene with no experiences in putting simple genes together to see different beauties the game will get boring to u real fast and u would probably get out of it and loose the passion which is so sad. .... Like in certain situations to truly understand u have to build from ground up '

    If I ever wanted to breed snakes I would pick a snake that breeds easily, does not have a high overhead, and sells quickly. That seems to be garter snakes, or hognose snake. Hognose are expensive to get started but bring high prices, but overhead for garters is really low, and they sell as soon as they hit the market.

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  Год назад

      Problem is that both garters and hognoses are not great sellers. Hognoses are easier than garters but the market is getting saturated for sure.

  • @Cavegeckosol
    @Cavegeckosol Год назад +1

    I think more than anything, the real market is in skill and experience. Because you can have two boas with 5 genes, but if you can't breed them correctly, you may wind up with a dead female. Similarly, you have to be able to successfully ID the morphs you are using in the first place. Being able to tell if hypo is present seems to stump more people on mm than it should. You need skills to get troublesome babies started. Rodent-eating Dominican boas will always hold their value because that isn't a genetic trait, but a show of skill and experience from the breeder. Genes and markets tend to level out over time, but you can't buy or breed skill.

    Fantastic video brother but getting into the reptile hobby right now is very tough. It’s so diluted there’s so many people doing it now compared to five or six years ago I mean it’s gotten out of control so to any new person thinking about getting into the hobby definitely follow Jasons advice, and really think about it because it’s definitely not gonna be easy nowadays.

    Hey Jason, my girlfriend and I just got a guayana bcc, It has a pretty sizable scar on its head from an incident with a previous owner. It was relatively inexpensive but they where having a hard time selling her bc breeders didn’t want the scar. It sounds like a dumb question because I don’t think it does, but would that scar have any effect on her breeding?
