came for the comments, stayed for the content lol
3-4 years is right! Bought a big group in 2010. had multiple pairings and only one litter 2 years later. had to raise those babies and prove them out before I made any money back. And went through 2 financial crisis during this time. 12 years a slave later, im doing better than I could have ever imagined....and we're only on 2nd base. Greatest hobby/job on the planet so far
Hah you know the deal. It’s take a lot to keep it moving. There are time you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but in your snake room and times you would rather be almost anywhere else. Too many people have a short site and think it’s a quick process. We both know the time it takes, but that tipping point when you can finally be successful at something you love is pretty awesome.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles amen! better than that liberal arts major student loan burden adults are paying back while working in a field totally unrelated lol I digress. people need to realize this is like anything else, work, patience and faith in yourself pays off in the end. kudos bro. Keep making these vids....we need them!
Numba two!!!!!!! This guys got da goods!
Haha! Don’t touch the cheeeese!! I feel extra special today!
Awesome video as always Jason! I think you need a certain number of snakes…..plus one very understanding wife. That’s where I got stuck. Haha
Exactly the video I was looking for!
thank you for sharing from many years of actual experience. too many people getting the wrong information from pet stores and friends and spreading it like they know what they're talking about. I've been keeping reptiles for 16 years and I'm just now considering breeding. actually paired my red tegus for the first time this year and have eggs in the incubator due to hatch the 22nd of this month. I lost my boas years ago during a power outage while I was away mid winter in New York. I'm now raising up boas again over the past 3-4 years and it's awesome that there are a couple people on here willing to share real information.
Thank you. Sorry about your boas but congrats on the tegus!
Passion is the key to a lot of things in life and like you said if you don't have passion from the very beginning you have nothing in the end of it all!
passion drives a lot of people it's what drives me, that's why I got into the reptile business!
I love my animals, I love watching them grow, I love knowing that I'm feeding them and having a future with the love of what I know is possible even though if I fall I'm still going to keep going!
there's nothing that's going to bring me down but myself.
my passion is my drive to success and we can make it if we keep going and we just drive ourselves to it.
Really cool stuff from you, greetings from Germany, cheerio!
Great job ,,, u is the snakemannn fellow snakemannn ,, keep up ya great works and educationz
Thank you bro!
7:46 OMG I LOVE YOUR Accent 😁❤️
To me the most important thing is have the passion first then the business part and also stick with a specific gene or localities and start from there then add other genes in ur collection , me personally im working with bolivians and venezuelans red tails that's my main focus.
I really like you candid advice for beginners. As someone who has casually bred pet snakes in the past, it sounds like I might have gotten lucky with number and quality of eggs. I'm looking to get back into the industry to run as a part-time small business eventually, and your videos have been very helpful so far!
Ouuuuu super excited about this series !! Very informative!! Can’t wait until next Saturday already.
Of course, only you make quality information dense videos. Love your channel Jason. Love your down to earth honest opinions. Absolutely perfect content
I appreciate that!
Awesome video and very good information about breeding boa’s Jason keep doing these videos man they are amazing and you tell it how it is Jason that’s what I like about you
3 is a Magic number lol 😂
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video thanks for great info. I’m getting into breeding kingsnakes and I went 3.6
Couldnt be more excited for this series!! What a great video topic to start with as well. So many new aspiring breeders, not to mention their animals, will benefit from your experience. Thanks for your contribution and for confirming that I do indeed need more snakes lol.🐍🐍🐍🐍😍
Thank you!!
Love all of this. Gonna save and take notes for a future milksnake program I want to start
I should have specified that the 3.3 is specific to boas. You can get away with a lower number of males for other species but I still feel it’s important to have equivalent males and females as a backup.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles definitely a good back up, especially when my female likes to eat everything 😅👀
Spot on advice, I started off with the bread and butter morphs hypo motley and sharp stuff then added more in stages, I have 3 litters under my belt and my first higher end stock landed this year.
Any one struggling, keep going !
Thank you to you Jason it’s a great platform to share passion of the hobby.
The goat man I’m going to try to breed this year amazing advice !
Thank you!!
Excellent video as always. I have 1.2 BC's (BCC's), and am very passionate about my animals, however, I really don't have an interest in breeding. I think alot of people see videos like yours and don't realize all the time, effort, money, and emotion that people like you have dedicated to being a successful breeder. You hear most people when getting their first snake saying they can't wait till it's old enough so they can breed it. They think it's that easy. I've had snakes for 30 years and have never tried breeding any of them, because I realize all that it takes and I have never been to the point to give it all that it requires. Owning several snakes is enough of a commitment and time consuming enough for me, and I love every minute of it, I'm just not the breeder type. I respect the people who are breeders, it's alot to take on. Keep up the good work that you do and please, keep the videos coming. Can't wait to see when some of your females start to drop.
FINALLY! Can't wait for more from this series!
Yo Jase ,great video bro, your information is very helpful because I’m about to start my own breeding project,I have 3 female’s albino motley, vpi anery jungle, salmon hypo, males are lipstick albino,Surinam red tail and sunglow , once again thanks for the info.
Good stuff man and thats def the truth sometimes things go well sometimes they go terribly wrong and it does take the wind out of you.
Thank you bro. Definitely does. It never gets old when you see a perfect litter and it never gets better when you get let down with a bad one.
Awesome pointers! Much respect to the breeders out there, you guys have a ton of knowledge to share 🐍
Great video! Looking forward for more. Liked and comment for participation.
Thank you!!
Thank you for making this kind of videos, they help a lot of new guys like me ! 👌👌👌👌
I have 2M 4f. My first attempt is happening this fall. Only doing one pairing since other females and second male arent old enough.
This is a eye opener, these are needed, thanks
Thank you!!
Great info Jason. Love the channel. Best wishes
Great information Jason Than you!😊
Thank you for creating this series !!. I've been following your channel for a decent amount of time and have learned so much and part of what helped create that passion you talk about. I do have a question though, what is the stigma against burmball's. Is it from burmese gene into a ball or vice versa ?
I think it’s that a lot of people feel that they our two difference species that should not be crossed. It’s kind of like a zebra and a horse. It’s a cool end product, but it’s not something that would typically occur naturally. I think it’s also the people who are making them are probably not people who are in the highest regard. There is a shady history for some of the people working with them and that certainly contributes.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles yes I have been following and paying attention to the ugly side due to my own opinion of being knowledgeable in both aspects. You can't have one without the other unfortunately.
Great video!

Thank you bro!
Can you do a video on how to keep a boa properly....but actually doing a video with the enclosure and the supplies with the snake in the enclosure....
I can try for sure.
Another great video, Jason! I am still in the process of getting my BP's up to size to start breeding (another year or two). Along with my BCI and Burm, which as of now, I don't have intentions to breed ...but who knows what the future holds? BEFORE I ever got back into the hobby, BEFORE I even purchased my BP's, I had a plan of which morph(s) I want to specialize in. And not simply buy this or that snake because it looked cool--if it in someway does not contribute to my overall goal, it does not come into my BP collection. There are many other morphs worth a higher dollar amount than the morphs I intend to make, but...going back to your reference of having "passion" for what it is you are doing, the morphs that I am aiming for are morphs that I myself love. I have 3.2 and all related in some form to the same gene, be it, visual or het. Still keeping my eye out for that specific female BP to bring that number up to 3.3, though. Aside from the BP project, I have a pair of Apalachicola Kingsnakes that I hope to breed out some day. That oughta be interesting. Thanks for the tips! Your videos are very helpful. Keep 'em comin'!
so what you are saying is that people need to get an early win to keep them motivated. I bred 7 females this years to 4 males. The only clutch that had many slugs was from the male that I cycled around, but his second clutch was a good redeemable size. I am talking about cornsnakes and black rat snakes.
I am going to have like 80 good eggs this year, and I have to say that I am going to have my hands full. should be alot of fun though
I realized after this video that I never mentioned that the 3.3 is specific to boas. Most colubrids and pythons you can cycle the male like crazy.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles well, it is still good advice since if you have a male that just want lock you swop it for another male. there are cases where it is better not to breed then to risk the health of a female for cheap hatchlings.
1st litter this year was good 20 healthy babies 1 slug ..the 2nd that was today tho was not so good, 20 slugs 4 still born an 4 that didnt make it ..saddest part of the process ..but you need to realize it does happen ..keep chasing the dream an moving forward stay passionate
Thanks for another great vid, I need to start shopping for males now..
Haha. More is better than less. Males will get burnt out much faster than females.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles didn't know that, thanks for the much needed info.
Thank You for this video!
Jason, your my go to guy on boas, my question/ video recommendation is on locality/ gene specific parings. Is it okay to breed a pair that have the same lineage but are not littermates i.e. same parents but from different litters or is that too close genetically. Do you line breed? I work with a handful of species mostly domestic livestock and fowl so that is complicated enough which is why I appreciate your insight in reptiles. Thanks for putting this information out in such a great setting, you're a good mentor.
I like the topics. In short, yes it is typically okay to line breed reptiles.
I started with two females and one male!
another great video jason. I IMPLORE YOU to keep going man i watch all of your videos! hey man, do you dabble with carpet pythons at all? or is it just the BC/BI and burmese?
Thank you so much. I have in the past but I’m not really set up for them. They need taller cages than I’m willing to give the space for. I could keep two boas in the same space as one carpet and I don’t really understand the market super well. It’s highly driven by locality.
I am just starting out, hoping to start breeding next year. I picked up 10 boas over the past few years, 6 females & 4 males. The plan is to breed 3 pairs per year, giving females every other year off.
Make sure you have the males as well. Males can get burnt out much easier than females.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles didn’t know that! I was told the males could go every year. Looks like I need 2 more males.
I like my concept though recent events might change her nickname. Though i a working with retics. My lady is platinum tiger baby is motley platinum tiger het albino my boy is motley goldenchild sunfire het albino. I am gonna go for a super motley albino i think looks amazing. Anyways baby is possible for that morph side. Anyways off to build my incubator later this summer.
i just lost my first ever clutch 10 eggs but luckily i have 2 more females to switch my focus to and im only a year and some months in instead of 4. it is a journey for sure thanks for all the help so far
Good luck on the future clutches! I hope it works out for you!
👍👍
Hello Jason I have a question, for the parents of the bug eyed boas do you retire breeding them altogether or just the parents as a pair or do you try again to see if there will be a different outcome?
I find the typically it is genetic. I actually need to make an updated video on this. Once I figure out what parents make the bug eyed babies, I typically will not read them again. At least for the use of Albino’s.
Where do you get your tubs and racks from?
All of the racks are Freedom Breeder
hey, i want to know if it would be wrong for me to introduce a breeding population of native lizards to my property. i’d like to see lizards running around and they’d help with insects
they are native to my area but i haven’t seen them near my house. i’ve seen them a couple miles away tho. i’d order them rather than taking any wild ones because i don’t wanna displace any wild animals (besides the grasshoppers that will be eaten now)
If they are already native, then I don’t see a problem with it. If they were not native, then, yes, I would say that would be a big no.
Just a quick question, is a El Diablo just central Albino and blood or do you need Motley as well?
No motley needed.
@jasonexoticreptiles Thanks me and a buddy was debating lol
Where’s the hat
Lol
Can i get just 1 - 2 male's for one female, if it's only for the sake of breeding my female just once?
If it’s just to try breeder then you only need a male and a female. If you’re trying to make a small business then you will need more than a 1.1
Especially ball pythons lose as much value. Choosing other animals makes it easier already.
Its weird how the background looks fake but I can tell its real because I see your reflection 🪞 this is trippie lol
Hhaha. I wouldn’t even know how to do a fake background
