Glad to hear that someone is actually ordering smaller ships. I'm not a fan of the 6,000 passenger mega liners.
We visited Bar Harbor last year on a cruise, nice little town which economy heavily relies on tourism. Let's see how this ban works for the city, I don't think it helps business community. Personally I have no desire to go to places that don't want me as a paying customer. There are plenty of places to spend money....

I agree. I was there last year on the way back from Bermuda and while it's a nice little town, it's a tourist trap. I was on NCL Pearl, which is relatively small by today's standards but by the current rules, less than half the ship would have been able to disembark there. Unless they have a lot of rich people "summering" there like back in the 19th century, I can't see all those businesses surviving.
Cruise lines need to pull out of ports that do not want them.

Not surprised the legal challenge over Bar Harbor went to federal court although I don't think it's going to get any further. Last year I sailed in and out of Boston to Bermuda and docked at Bar Harbor on the way back. Nice place but a first class tourist trap in my humble opinion, so I have to wonder how all those small businesses will survive as the cruise lines pull out.
Good thing I went last year - although it was a relatively small ship by today's standards (NCL Pearl), now less than half the ship wouldn't be allowed to disembark. Do they really think that the cruise lines are going to deal with the headache of who gets to leave and who has to stay onboard? They'll just bypass it completely and I can't say that I blame them.

Mornin' Doug! If I'm waiting on a second delay on a 1300 day cruise, I'm probably starting to get the heebie jeebies. 1) Is this it or is this just the next in a string of delays? 2) If it can't get out of the dock, is this thing actually going to be sea worthy for 1300 straight days when it does sail?
Note to self: If I find myself with a burning desire to cruise for three years straight, look for a company that's got a few successes under it's belt.
Haha. The section in the terms and conditions say if they are more then 15 days late they can get a refund.
@@CruiseRadioI can guarantee you none of the residents will get asking for a refund. Villa Vie is taking care of them stupendously. Accommodation provided, excursions in Ireland every day, Happy Hour meet ups every day, dinners together with new friends, some people traveling in the UK, Europe. They had a tour on the ship today and while there is a lot to do, they said the ship is beautiful and can’t wait to board. The stringent inspection (which is good) wanted a water tank replacing.
Well you won’t because there isn’t one. And the owners are on for probably less than that because they’ll probably upgrade to the new ship next year.

Will the ex Crown Dynasty actually set sail? I can’t imagine living on a ship that was made for 3 to 4 day cruises from Port of Palm Beach.
Yeah, it is wild. I had no clue so many cruise lines sailed that ship.

If you can cruise around the world, you can be flexible.
Suppose you are right but I’m trying to imagine if someone is staying in a hotel after selling out their home or flying into port on their expected departure date. This could be a problem for them, not for me though……..I’d never be able to afford a world cruise unless I won the lottery.

Wow, eruption on Iceland + Evac + close Blue Lagoon again. I cruise 6 iceland ports Aug, I didn't select Blue Lagoon Exc or should I. Suppose near End of cruise stop at Bar Harbor(been there) hope ship can still get counted in.

If you are foolish enough to sign up for a world cruise on an old ship you should expect delays.
Interesting business. Quality of life vs economic growth in Bar Harbor. Having lived most of my life in a resort area I understand the tensions. Great report.

Why choose to go on a world cruise at this rate. The 3 year cruise went belly up and hopefully those folks get their money back.
