Dang
Hey did you know there is a ice biome
Put ice on a biome
@@Arez-hu6nr Dang
@@eyesofwonde yes just use the snow
Or just freeze water
For rivers, use the earthquake. It makes them look a lot better, warp tools are super helpful too. And as for beaches, I think that they look way better if you just let them erode
I been doing that my whole life
It sometimes makes good mountains
i like using earthquake for little islands, do it connects em and it looks more natural
But earth quake sometimes make mountains
that makes rivers huge, disorderly, and uncontrollable, but if that’s what you want then go for it.
however, when it comes to just letting beaches erode, that will never look good outside of very tiny islands. very few beaches in any world will have only a few meters of sand on the shore.
Tip: if you want a bit more detail, you start at close ocean, then slowly move up the levels until you have reached the ground layers
it’s a good tutorial, but there’s a few things I would personally add:
-elevation patterns. the forest is at a higher elevation than fertile soil, and therefore it should look as such
-mountain ridges. you kinda did this, but it’s important to be able to recognize natural watersheds for realistic maps
-realistic rivers. rivers very rarely bifurcate (split moving downhill). rivers will always instead join together. rivers also always travel the route of least resistance.
-biome logic. savannah and desert is more likely to occur in areas away from the coast or dry areas. swamp or jungle usually near the coast in humid areas. mountain ridges define humidity
-coast realism. coasts can be smooth in areas, but the majority of coasts are rocky. also, sandbars are a very nice touch especially in high current open waters. bays are usually best for smooth sand coasts.
again these are just personal preferences. it’s a game lol. keep up the quality videos, I really enjoy them :)
Forests are at lower levels
I personally like doing a north and south pole, also water shed can be affected by mountains so one side is much more humid than the other, kinda like the rocky mountains in cascadia
@@BrazilianImperialist is you use the increase elevation tool on a plain soil it’ll go to first then hills and vice versa with forest soil
yeah I didn't have really any problems with the vid but I definitely do rivers differently cuz I make tributaries in mountains that form big rivers and the big rivers drain into the ocean creating deltas of different types. Sometimes I make creeks too but creaks that actually drain into the ocean normally would form in hills or mountains near the ocean. Also just in general I really like to make my biomes realistic focusing my warmer biomes in the bottom of the map with deserts/savanas on one side of a mountain range and jungle on the other side (normally the more coastal side). I also like to make little microbiomes in areas like rivers and stuff. Like I'll make swamps along some rivers or jungle around a lake that is in a savana biome or desert (kinda like an oasis) and just other stuff. I really liked the whole jungle swamp thing he made at the end tho lol
Why is there geography in my favourite game
rivers tend to merg rather than split unless it’s a river delta, so you we see two rivers collide more often than a river splitting into two
Also, most of the time only one river exits a lake while one or more can enter a lake.
Just a tip for everyone looking to make realistic maps; rivers generally don't split. They tend to combine together while going down from the mountains. So for example, you could have a large river flowing down from a mountain, joined by small tributary rivers flowing into the bigger river while streaming down hill towards the ocean. There are cases of rivers splitting, such as the Nile, but it's rare.
Rivers split often near coasts
@@user-ib1bi6ns3n Yeah, but it's not as common.
@@user-ib1bi6ns3n Besides the point, though, as the video includes rivers splitting far from the coastline.
Thank you very much for that that's going to be helping me a whole lot send well my Island Building skills are horrible and when I make one mistake I never want to fix it because when I do try to fix it I end up making it worse so with this video you have helped me quite a while
What
This was actually really nice. I just got the game a few days ago, and my maps are kinda flat and childlike. Thanks for the tips!
Glad I could help!
@@Gooorg I have to Thank you, too!
"Try to think like a river." Thank you for the life lesson.
"think like a river"
*Smashes a river through a mountain range
Which is kinda EXACTLY what a river does.
@@Arcaryon rivers do not cut through mountains
it was in between the mountain range gaps.@@purplefish2786
I fucking love this tutorial so god damn much I swear to god you made my maps go from a circle to something decent enough to be called a map
As an artist I never struggled with making maps. Drawing fantasy maps like from Lotr is kind of a hobby of mine
Savannah and also the secret biome pair well together because they have the same looking trees
Secret Biome???
@@aredjay4342 i think he meant the wasteland but idk
@@CyberCrow4 oke. i havent seen the new update to the game yet.
@@aredjay4342the secret biome happens when rain is acid
@@_Error__404__ whoa... I Will ttry it
you can also make shallow waters near the beaches like the map randomizer
Thanks for making this helpful video. I just spent all day today making a world with 5 main continents and two smaller island continents. And I did not have 1 river on any of them. Here I was thinking: there should be a river button, and now I learned how to make one with smaller brushes. It took so long because I'm a stickler for detail, so I am happy to know making maps can take so little time.
tip: add shallow waters and close ocean across the beach so it looks like continental shelf
Bro you made my map look alot better with that idea
I was thinking of that the entire time 😭
this man has probally taught me more than my actually art teachers AND HES JUST MAKING A WORLD IN WORLD BOX (but very cool)
I love these types of videos man. Keep it up
Thank you so much! I am really happy and thankful for this tutorial. I'm now a fan of you! :)
Forest spots inside of an overall regular soil looks nice, too!
wow thank's this really did help at making actual good islands and map's
Thank you! Now my new worlds look so much better!
THANK YOU BRO BECAUSE OF YOU I CAN MAKE MY MAPS MORE BETTER!!! (TANK YOU)
Thanks for the tips✨, I'm your new subscriber :)
Thanks the video. Such a brilliant game
The game overwhelms me too much but it seems so fun so thank you for this
Bruh, that's awesome. Always, wanted to make my own custom maps, but it always came out kinda plain. All the tips are nice, gonna make an awesome map for each race having diff land mass.
Nice, I completely forgot about the Vortex tool. Thanks!
My maps will be way cooler now thanks to you 👍
gorg you are my great helper this was so helpfull thankyou
Tip: use the decrease land brush to create rivers, the brush is focused to the middle, making an inclined riverbed
I like to use the earthquake tool as it will add some nice looking mountains or some casual looking lakes
Thanks, i really wanted to do these kinds of islands, thanks again!
Love your videos, dude.
You are now my new favorite RUclipsr
I mixed the swamp and mushroom biomes together and its looks so good
Thank you so much! I used too never ever make my own maps thank you so much
Me: doesn't even play this game
Also me: seems like a good video to watch at 3 am with a test tomorrow.
lol, litterly me (yes i know, my spelling is bad. correct me if you want)
Thank you for the tips to make a nice world.. now I will go play worldbox now.
This was really helpful thanks!
SUPER NICE
Very helpful, thank you!
I use this video constantly as a reference. Thanks.
Okay, my tip is for the very bottom layer to be close ocean, then shallow ocean, then sand, and make rivers shallow ocean and the center of lakes (and larger rivers) be more close ocean, but yeah, vortex tool is amazing.
It doesn't seems so real but its super helpful brother. I subscribed you for this video :))
BTW your channel name is a Iranian name that means Wolf
Gorg in Persian means wolf
I enjoyed this
Thank you! This helped me a lot!
Noice I will definitely use this
Good tutorial, try focusing also on the weather zones and the degre of the map like that is on earth it will make it even more realistic
yeah
This guy is one of the best worldbox gamers i have ever seen!
good to come abck to this video and realize ive been being too touchy or overzealous with certain things
thank you💪👍
Thank you now i can try to be good at creating worlds like this
One thing I love to do is draw characters in Worldbox like Mr.puzzles from SMG4
Good to know that somebody has gotten the same line of thought as i do, when creating maps :D
This helped me so much thanks!!!! 😊
Holy moly this is a very good tutorial
this is so usefull thank you so MUCH i always make really bad islands that look like a square always so this helps out ALOT so thanks :D
Thank you sooooo much your the best!!! 🙏
I make maps just by making a rough sketch of the islands with close ocean, then add detail from shallow waters, to sand, then to soil and mountains and I finish with rivers and biomes( I decide which biomes I want where in the close ocean phase)
helped alot! i'll never have to just add a giant mound of dirt in the middle of the ocean and say "theres my map" ever again
I use alot create island & earthquakes but i didnt know about the vortex thanks
Thank you! I made a great made, thanks to you!
also this will come extremely useful im going to sub
this was very helpful
So helpful thank yoi
I always like to add sand to the coastline because it makes the land look nicer and more define
Worked for me and I made a cool map.
First of all, terrific video. Second of all, I have never heard of this game or played it before
@@kylefam9356 Calm down. He said nothing wrong.
@@destrocore50 i was being dumb cuz i was super tired and i thought terrific meant like something bad. Now i know it meams good lol
@@kylefam9356 OK "Kyle fam" calm down
For me i generally simply make sort of zig zaggy movements at random points, usually works for an interesting map though you have to do this multiple times
the swamp and jungle is a pretty good mix too
I usually just make the whole map land then create a giant bike on the middle for ocean. Your method is pretty amazing. I'll try that if i have time.
This video helped me out
Thanks for that tutorial
Thank you very much for making this video so now I can try make so many more maps and is it ok to put a ice biome just saying if it’s ok to make a ice biome and is it ok to put humans on the biomes when your finished
I used the shovel to randomly move terrain up and it works fine in unison with the rivers
Good commentary and hard to pin down sense of humour
This is very nice
Thanks man!
Dude I love watch you making maps, can you make a big one?
Wow! This is a great tutorial! (the snow didn't work)
I made a very impressive map using this!
Take my like Gorg TAKE IT!! 😩😩✨
Thanks a lot I’m a Newby playing the game and I had
why do you have to make my own map
Thank you very much
Thanks I really needed this cus the maps I make sucks
making maps in worldbox is fun but also frustrating cause of the lack of an undo button. once the devs add that feature, I bet even more people are gonna make maps than there are right now
I usually make rivers wide and shallow as they get closer to the ocean as rivers tend to do this in real life, and I use very thin water lanes as river deltas.
Thank you so much
Here’s a tip I learned, if you want boreal trees without the snowy dirt, you can freeze the ground, plant the trees, heat it up again, and then plant the grasslands biome!
i usually just make the biome snowy and then explode it with a bomb then spray it with water so the trees dont burn
Note that this no longer works on the latest version.
You help a lot
Thanks
Gorg, you should create a Discord server, for your community to enjoy !😁
agree
Thank u man
Bro explained it like he is the Bob Ross of world box. 😃
Edit: I would have put swamp near the patch of rivers where he put mushrooms, and put mushrooms closer to the mountains.
Thank you
I tried doing this on a TITANIC sized map and it was a pain to do. Do you think you can share any tips for creating original maps that are far bigger in scale and might need a bit more time or detail?
You should try making episode 3 of this thing at 200k!
A thing I do is use the finger tool to customize things better
You should add shallow water around your island to make it more realistic
10:18 That is so genious! oh god WRITE THAT DOWN! WRITE THAT DOWN!!!
you could dig it with the shovel and later do tiny details with the other shovel
To be honest I'm on mobile. I tried every buttons to make a landscape sized map (rectangular) I kept getting a square border map, how do I get a rectangular map
