@@lomiification No it has nothing to do with Texas, it was the president at the time Andrew Jackson and the 1830 Congress. Congress passed the Indian Removal Act. The act authorized the president to exchange Indian lands within existing state borders for lands west of the Mississippi. the president sent in the Army who forcefully relocated natives from Tennessee and Alabama to Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. which is where Indian reservations stand to this day.

So while the great and mighty James Eads might have the record, it was based on an English invention and built by a Scotsman. But hey, that's all water under the bridge...

Fun fact, Texas owes its origin and accent to England. It was originally settled, by England and I think Mexico or Spain and became part of Mexico I'm not sure which. Anyway the English moved in, became ranchers and landowners, fought out the Mexicans, form to their own country, and then later joined the United States. So that Texas accent? As I understand it that's what the English accent used to sound like a couple hundred years ago. So, basically, Texas? It's all England's fault. And they wonder why the rest of the country hates them.

Texas was a part of Mexico until 1836 when American settlers living there refused to comply with Mexican anti-slavery laws and annexed the territory for themselves

Perhaps Great Britain invented steel bridges, perhaps not. I do not know. But I do know that the first ALL-steel bridge was built very near where I live, in Glasgow, Missouri. Look up the Glasgow Railroad Bridge. It was built in 1879 but rebuilt in 1900.
